Survivor 10/10

Helen definitely made the right move in voting with the guys. It was a simple choice between voting on emotion, or voting for tribal strength and unity. Still, she’s not a person I would have seen falling so easily into the role of “housewife” and meekly doing all the “women’s work” while the guys lounge around.

I’ve come to the realization that the only person on Chewing Gum that I like even a little bit is Clay. And not even that much for him. Just as well, I suppose, since that whole team is doomed.

I was pleased to hear in Ghandia’s final words that she at least realized (too late) that she’d made a big mistake in trying to split the tribe that way, and that her eviction was entirely her own fault.

Yeah! She seems to think all she has to do is work hard (which she did, this week anyway) and be smarter than everyone else (which she thinks she is) to win. She apparently has no clue that you also have to be liked.

I hate to say it, but I felt my Knobb-hate slipping a little this week. I think he managed to not be a jerk for an entire episode. I mean, he’s still a moron and an ass, but he’s not completely uncharming, sometimes.

Anyway, I’m now going to make my Final Four predictions, based partly on analysis, and partly on who I want to win:

Penny, Shii Ann, Jake and Ken. Final winner: probably not Shii Ann, which is who I want it to be.

You heard it here first.

Funny, I thought it might be Helen who gets zapped by a jellyfish. In the preview, it looked like she was the only one absent from the “teammates react to next week’s horror” shot.

What a bizarre parting monologue from Ghandia–right up there with Susan’s infamous speech. On the other hand, I can’t wait till Clay gets axed.

jayjay, I’m sympathetic to your position. I am SO ready for Helen to come out, leave her husband, and be my femme-in-the-sheets love slave.

I had the same reaction brondicon. When Brian first started out, I was thinking “what an ass!”, but then when he got to the part about having some laundry that needed to be done, I got the impression that he knew how stupid his comments were, and thought maybe he was going for tounge-in-cheek humor and just came across as too serious.

I’m glad they got rid of Ghandia. If she really did blow the whole Ted affair out of proportion to try and get the sympathy vote from the others (which is the impression I got from her farewell speech), then she deserves to get the boot.

For next weeks “switch” I was wondering if the each person will have to pick 2 or 3 people they want to send to the other team(getting 60 seconds to decide who they want to get rid of). Jeff P. could then add up the votes, and the top people have to switch. That would play off nicely against the 1st show, where Jan and Jake got to pick their teams. It would also make the merge very interesting, since the switched people would know that their former team-mates didn’t mind shipping them off.

I haven’t finished the thread, so maybe someone already addressed this. It’s not really to shallow for sharks. Where I kayak there are sharks in less than a half meter of water. Of course, they’re only a meter long or less, and they’re not at all aggressive. Remember last season? There was a shot of a shark in ankle-deep water.

In the same place, and often in only 10 or 20 cm. of water, are round sting rays. Usually they move out of the way, but I make sure I shuffle my feet so I don’t tread on one. That would make it mad.

I haven’t noticed any urchins or jellyfish in the water on the show, but they could be there. Since small sharks are generally non-aggressive and I haven’t noticed any urchins or jellyfish, I’ll guess it was a sting ray.

[spoiler]It’s a stingray, Johnny:

Well, I was on the phone watching this episode, so I’m sure I missed a lot, but I don’t quite understand: Was Ghandia lying about the biting and such? Did that get revealed at all? Ted did admit to grinding against her last week, right? I was shocked that she got the boot and not him. If she was exagerating, what gave her away?

You know what? I really don’t care anymore. It was interesting to try to fugure out the game the first couple of series, but no more. This is a new cast but the same old script - and the cast isn’t really all that new, either. Burnett’s out of ideas.

Time to let it rest. Or go all-celebrities; I really enjoyed seeing Bud Bundy doing pushups while getting screamed at on Boot Camp.

You know what? I really don’t care if you don’t care anymore. Obviously, some of us are still interested. What in the world makes you feel the need to come into a thread full of people discussing the show and say how boring it is to discuss the show?

No.

Slightly belated response (was actually all raring to go yesterday when the board stalled again). Here goes:

Gandhia may or may not have had a valid beef, but in any case I find it impossible to sympathize with her. The way she handled the whole situation was incredibly immature, and at times downright nauseating…and stupid, inasmuch as she’s supposed to be trying to survive here (it’s called “Survivor” for a reason, right?).

Also, I’m of the opinion…and this just strengthens it…that a cheesy game show that’s designed from the ground up to set people against each other is not the place to clamor for social justice and equality between the sexes. If Gandhia wants to raise a stink, maybe even pursue legal action (lord knows many Americans have done so for less), she’s perfectly free to do so after it’s over. Until then, it’s her own hide she should be worried about.

In this respect, I have to admire Helen’s bravery in fighting off her gut instinct and making the only smart vote. Yeah, it’s bad for sisterhood…well, sisterhood between three unrelated women on a cheesy game show, anyway (Are we all clear on this? Do we all now agree that Richard’s win doesn’t indicate jack zilch about the power of evil in the real world?)…but in a game like Survivor, you HAVE to look out for #1. Good move, and thanks for reminding us what this little adventure is really about.

Also…anyone remember the real lesson from Survivor 1? You don’t have to go after the lazy good-for-nothings. They’re no threat to you and will eventually dig their own graves. It’s the erratic, vindictive, overemotional, take-things-a-little-too-personally loose cannons that can spell disaster for you if they hang around too long.

Personally, I’m just relieved that this tiresome flap is finally over, and maybe a few of the neglected folks in the Orange camp can get some more air time (we still know almost nothing about Ken, and he was the friggin’ easy exploitation pick).

Oh, and Brian was just funnin’. Hey, you only live once.

Robb…gah. He’s done well to make it this far, but let’s be serious, it’s only a matter of time. Note how Jerri (S2) got sent out of the tribal council on a rocket-powered sled the instant Ogakor had the opportunity. Robb’s dug his own grave with a bulldozer and has zippo chance of winning it all.

Oh yeah, prediction. Tribal majority will mean nada jack zippo nuttin’ zilch. You heard that here first.

Yeah, I could see that, although part of me wants to say, “Who the heck are Penny and Ken?”
Geez, those two are never even seen.

I am soooo glad Helen did the right thing and voted for Ghandia. I think that’s the first time someone has actually made a strategic vote, not one based on, “I just don’t like her, so I’m voting her out.”

And I was surprised Jan and Ghandia disliked Clay so much. I thought they would have voted for Ted.

**
That’s fine, as long as he can come to my house on the weekends in his questionable swim trunks and do hot, sweaty yard work.

I definitely think Clay is as divisive as Ghandia. His whole Southern boy attitude has got to go.

Bri, FTR I haven’t seen your scrawny ass dragging home any mastodons lately…

Knobb wasn’t nearly as obnoxious this week…

I thought it was hysterical when Jeff chastised Clay for not being clear with his vote. Hee Hee Hee

Glad to see Gonorrhea get the vote. I hate people who won’t take responsibility for their actions.

Jan is much less of a liability than Clay. Even though the pigtails are obnoxious, I think Jan is a pretty neat lady.

I wonder if the item of value that the one team will lose next week is their chickens…what else could it be? Any rules against stealing from the other team?

Spoiler for PunditLisa:Chewing Gum loses their boat. You can see it in the previews over on the CBS Survivor site.

Did both tribes get chickens?

Nope, just Soup Guy. The chickens and the bananas were their reward for dummy-'round-the-island challenge.

Nope, just Soup-Guy. It was the “surprise” part of their RC, along with the bananas. The chickens were waiting for them back at their camp when they got back.

I think Ghandia’s biggest mistake was going after Clay. She had convinced Jan and Helen (rightly or wrongly) that Ted was evil and brought them over to her side. Then when the vote came down, she tried to swing her faction against Clay instead. It went from being a matter of principle to a political decision. You could almost see Helen thinking “if you’re willing to forget about your problem with Ted and work with him, why should I be taking it personal?”

Jan’s situation is amazing when you think about it. She hand-picked her seven team mates. Now a few days later, she’s helped vote two of them off and has the remaining four allied against her. Way to handle the group dynamics.

As for the Soup Guys, the field is still too crowded to see the whole picture. Stefanie and Robb are the next two to go, but it’s hard to see who’s working with who among the other five. Shii Ann’s the only one who’s had any serious showtime. Ken’s the cop and Jake’s the old guy. At this point, the only way to distinguish Erin and Penny is hair color and breast size.

I’ve noticed so far this season, they’ve been very miserly on the food (bananas for God’s sake?). So my guess is that the upcoming deal offer will involve some kind of major prepared feast, such as trading luxury items for a sit down at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

You know, I didn’t have much of an opinion on Clay before. He seemed to be a nice enough guy. But this episode revealed him to be quite the moron, IMHO.

Yes, but not as much of a moron as Ghandia…
