Survivor 10/23

It looked to me like he was doing some sort of meditative breathing technique as well as finding a focal point and dissociating a bit. You could see that he was exhaling in a very controlled way, unlike Osten Huff-n-Puff.

I read too many Survivor boards so I can’t remember whether this was mentioned here or not, but Christa and Rupert actually did manage to kill a pelican and were going to take it back to camp to cook, but the producers warned them that pelicans are notorious for carrying some nasty parasites. I would guess the Morgans got the same warning when Pete showed up.

As Grace just reminded me, check out what a wuss Osten was compared to Mike and Colby from Survivor 2 Australia. Those guys held poles with over 400 pounds of weights hanging off of them. It only ended because Mike’s pole broke in half over his shoulders from that much weight on it. Watch the video on that link – those guys were determined!

jayjay, just curious, but where do the message board people find that info?

I thought it was funny when Andrew greeted Jon by calling him “Big Jon”, but when he was talking to the cameras he called him “Little Jon”.

The theme for this season is “jumping the gun and getting yourself voted off”. Nicole did it when she tried to get Lillian to help her vote off Tijuana. Burton did it when he tried to get Rupert to vote off Christa, and now Trish.

If you mean the thing about the pelican- that was revealed in the TVGuide article several weeks before the season began. In the story introducing the contestants, they detailed the story of Christa hitting a pelican over the head with a rock, only to be told by producers that they shouldn’t eat it (which makes one wonder why they allowed her to kill it in the first place- the way the story was written, she was having some angst over whether she could do it or not, so they had time to stop her).

Duderdude, not really sure. The pelican thing came from TV Guide, as bobkitty noted. There are a few boards with insider spies, including one where two of the volunteer posters went to the Islands after production was over and toured the area they were shooting in, checking out clues left when the production crew departed. And several posters on different boards have purchased Survivor Premium membership and are posting their information from that.

:waves:

are pelicans so tame? or did the producers feed them or something? btw i saw a scorpion climbing up a tree trunk while they interviewed one of the tribe members last week. aren’t they poisonous?

No, I just went back and reviewed the tape to make sure I was remembering correctly. It was right after they showed Rupert talking to Shawn and making the deal. Jon and Shawn went for a walk on the beach. At the end of the segment, Shawn says (actual quote this time), “Little do they know. I think everyone is going to be shocked. Everyone. Ha ha ha.” (Yes, he did actually say “Ha ha ha.”)

So it wasn’t quite as bad as I said before, but still treading a bit close to the edge, IMO.

Why did he need to? 'Cause I just can’t see how any good could have resulted from that speech.

And on that subject, that’s another thing that’s been bugging me: one thing people should have learned from previous seasons is that it’s a bad idea to be perceived as a leader. The nail that sticks up gets hammered down. The best players (Rich and Bryan and Amazon Rob, IMO) knew that it was best to lead from the rear, as it were, so as not to cause resentment. Let other people think they’re calling the shots, and you’re just making “suggestions”.

And actually, Rupert does seem to get that too, but sometimes he forgets. Andrew, on the other hand, doesn’t get it at all.

Ferrous

I was thinking of the TC. That’s where Sandra said it.

As for Rupert, the why was part of the remark: “as the leader of his alliance…”.

Shayna

Wow!

You know guys (incl. Little Nemo), I wondered the same thing. I wonder if Jon and Osten are full tribemembers – free to vote for anyone or to be voted out, but both were secretly supposed to do thier best to throw an (or X number) of immunity and reward challanges:

Osten in the water “drowning” looked fake to me {esp. after his 1/4 mile swim in the 1st episode}, as did his drop this week at the (relatively) low weight.

Jon on the rudder at the reward challange Morgan won was simply ridiculous and it was he who actually “threw” the earlier challange (tho he had buy-in from everyone).

Just looking for shadows maybe, giving these two … mess-ups … too much credit probably – but the thought crossed my mind.

You know I think a Morgan is more likely to win now than a Drake. Especially if they merge soon/now. Jon & Shawn both seem likely to me to jump, 7 if i were Jon I might take a deal now to be the last Drake standing … Only (possibly) Osten seems even remotely likely to screw Morgan. If there is no merge or one side goes into it weaker in a couple weeks – well, that is a different story.

Most of them have “poison” that is “itchy and irritating” rather than “drop dead frothing at the mouth”. Not that’d I want to find out which flavor is on that island the hard way.

I’m hoping that they are both on the all-star edition. When is the cast list announced?

Not sure. But we do know it’ll air right after the Super Bowl, according to this link (towards the bottom).

Yes, indeed. At one point he said, “Get off my island and out of **my ** adventure.”
Sorry, Rupe, it’s neither ‘your’ island nor ‘your’ adventure.

As for previous posts saying either Jon or Osten are plants, how about Rupert being the plant? He’s just a little too likeable and a little too capable. Hmm?

And Shayna’s spoiler isn’t a spoiler anymore if you watch the TV previews. If you turn the TV off or change channels to avoid them, then it is still a spoiler, but the previews for this week’s show confirm it.
And I agree, this version of Survivor is great!
I just wonder how they’re going to work it.

Will the whole group come back, as a new tribe? Will one member get to come back in place of someone being voted out?
Don’t ruin it for me, I’m just speculating…
