Survivor 27 Finale 12/15/2013

I’m on record as saying this season sucked, despite a promising beginning. I still believe that because some of the new rules were never used (partner switch, only used by Rupert, but…Rupert) and it killed the clues to the immunity idol angle. What we are left with since the merge is same ole, same ole, except with no compelling or dominating characters.

There is a lot to get through in two hours tonight: A redemption island duel and a returnee, an immunity challenge and Tribal Council to get down to four, then another immunity challenge and TC to get to the final three, then the usual finale routines and the last TC, which takes a long time.

My impressions and guesses as to what happens:

  1. Final RI Duel. Hayden or Laura. I pick Hayden, just because I think he is a better player than most give him credit for. He’s good at challenges and always seems to know what is going on in camp, he just can’t get himself on the right alliance. Seeing how he chose Kat as his romantic partner, that may not be any surprise. Anyway, it matters not, as the returnee is promptly voted out in the…

  2. First Immunity Challenge (unless he wins immunity). Nobody who’s last act was winning a crucial challenge is going to get a pass into the final four, especially since they will be in the minority vs. Hayden, Gervase, and Monica. Nobody is going to flip this late in the game, that chance went by in the last episode. Hayden plays his HII as it is the last chance to play it.

  3. That leaves Gervace, Hayden, Monica and Ciera for the inevitable final challenge that is heavily weighted to the smallest and lightest girl. Ciera wins and if the group has any brain cells left they get rid of Tyson (This is not a flip, just self-interest.)

  4. Final Tribal Council. A late influx from RI helps Ciera as Hayden, Monica, and Tina all should be inclined to vote her way. It also leaves four on the other side, with a possible split vote since the remaining players don’t get to vote. Ciera has nothing to fall back on but an ultimately failed flip and a win in perhaps the easiest challenge in Survivor history.

Gervace kept loyal and did do some work to hold his alliance together, but for some reason everyone hates him.

Monica, despite being a lone wolf all season, pulled herself together and stopped being so annoying once the merge happened, and even won three challenges in a row. She may be the only one who has a compelling argument as to why she deserves to win, as opposed as to why the others shouldn’t.

My hunch? I have no idea. If Hayden makes it to the final it is all his, but that is a big if. If it is between Monica, Ciera, and Gervace it is a complete crapshoot and could come down to something that hasn’t even made the air up to this point. I’d be on the lookout for foreshadowing, especially if something comes up out of nowhere.

Monica pros: Was the least likely to make the finals, won three challenges in a row that likely saved her ass. Cons: Husband made a ton of money in the NFL and probably even more as owner of a law firm who shared in a huge settlement in the NFL concussion lawsuit recently.

Gervase pros: Little to none. Cons: Nobody likes him

Ciera pros: Potentially half of the jury. Ciera cons: Everything else.

My guess: During FTC, Monica acknowledges that she and Brad don’t need the money and promises to donate the winnings to Iraq and Afganistan veterans who also were first responders on 9/11 and who also operate kitten rescue operations. She wins.

I think there is a better than even chance that Laura will win. She is a challenge monster, and could run the final immunity challenges, denying the people in the game a chance to vote her back out. Tyson is playing a great game. He should play the immunity. If I have this correct, the next tribal council will be the last opportunity to play the idol.

The smart move is to flush the idol and vote Gervas, then Tyson at the next council. If this is what happens, and leaves Monica Cieraa and Laura, Laura should cruise to the finish.

The idol is a moot point now. Tyson has to play it at Final 5 or lose it. There is no need to “flush it,” it is getting played next and everyone knows who has it.

You scenario is plausible, but I can’t see the remaining players letting a challenge monster through to the Final Four when they can vote her out. If Laura makes it back, she only stays in by continuing to win immunity.

football delay :o(

Clue for next season was B B B.

Bed Bath and Beyond was my first thought.

then

Brains, Beauty, and Brawn

I gave up about four or five episodes in, not long after Colton’s meltdown. Are they going to let that little bitch show his face at the Reunion Show?

Check out the other thread – Colton was there but everyone ignored him

As they should. Why they even brought him back was dubious. The producers’ quest for drama and fireworks just faded away amidst vain attempts at psychobabbly excuses. I could hear the eye-rolls with the sound turned down to 3 on my teevee.

I think that this past season was the most boring ever. I wish they’d quit letting older players return because it really stacks the odds in their favor. I mean, this was Tyson’s third try before he won. Ditto for Boston Rob. And Cochran won after his second appearance.

I liked it far better when there was a cast of unknowns.

I was switching back between the show and a football game, but I’m pretty sure they either eliminated the “walk down memory lane” feature or really limited it. Hooray! They’re finally listening to us!

I think that this was, by far, the calmest, most rational final tribal ever.

I didn’t believe that Tyson would get so many votes because of the nasty things he said and did. For instance, the comment to Katie (“There’s the jury chair”) and how he acted when he chowed down on food instead of being gracious. But it goes to show how editing can make a person appear one way, when in reality they all seemed rather fond of him.

I think the final 3 ought to be able to vote, just not for themselves.

I felt really bad for Tina and Katie; it was remarkable that they were able to hold it together. 2 weeks after my child was killed in a car accident and I guarantee you that I’m curled up in a ball somewhere.

Speaking of Tina, I was surprised and a tad disappointed that she didn’t let Katie win the build-a-stick and fetch keys challenge. This was her third (or 4th?) appearance on the show, no? She should have let her daughter try to get back in, IMO. I also was surprised after Laura helped her at the RI challenge numerous times that she wouldn’t hear of letting Laura win. Poor form, Tina. Poor form. Laura had a much better shot at that final challenge than Tina did.

I don’t think that Vytas and Aras will ever be close because Vytas is such a tool. It sucks that his brother was the “golden child” but after 20 years, you’d think maturity would help the situation.

Colton is just all kinds of awful. I truly cannot stand him. I hope Caleb can find someone who’s not such a whiny, immature crybaby.

Surprised Monica didn’t earn more sympathy votes. It did seem that people were out to beat her down, even though she was a very strong competitor in her own right. She was really stupid to allow Tyson to make it to the end. Oh, and her plastic face is really disconcerting. When she said she only weighed 100 pounds, I wonder how much of that was her boobs.

The final challenge was clearly stacked in favor of the men. Climbing stairs time and time again was obviously not going to favor women. The puzzle was supposed to be the equalizer, but Tyson’s head start made it a breeze for him. Boo on that.

I hate Redemption Island. The whole concept stinks.

I had no idea Hayden was on Big Brother, as I don’t watch that show. Cannot believe he’s still dating Kat, who truly is one of the stupidest people ever to play the game. (What in the hell did she mean by the comment that she was top heavy?) Of course, he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed either, so I guess they make a nice, attractive, stupid couple.

Glad Candace and John were shown some love at the finale.

Rupert and his wife were cute, even though I wasn’t her biggest fan.

Gervase didn’t get one vote. Love how Jeff showed way more love for Ciera. “You don’t play this game for 4th or 3rd place. You should play to win.”

Cochran as a sitcom writer. Who knew?

I think that’s all!

Well, she was implying she got a boob job. And the way she said it made it seem like it was in order to keep her boyfriend. I’m not sure if that’s how she meant it, but that’s how it came across.

Maybe she was drunk or something

Best part of the show.
