He was super sketchy in the first episode. I think I remember him proposing multiple different secret alliances to people who possibly then compared notes with each other. (Remember Nick kept naming his 2-person alliances as if he was on Big Brother.) Or maybe it was just work ethic, where everyone else was working on the shelter while Nick was off cutting deals all day. Or maybe he got caught idol hunting, but I think it was more the alliance thing.
As I recall, it was an absolute foregone conclusion that he was being voted off. The very first vote is before people know each other, so anybody who marks themself in even the tiniest way is almost always voted off just because it’s the safe choice for everybody else. That’s also why the first vote is usually unanimous.
He came on strong and was immediately looking for an idol. His tribe had decided that if they lost the challenge, he was going home. Then when they were going back from the challenge, the other guy fell and had to be evacuated.
No real surprises in the finale as once they voted Davie out, the vote was pretty much a given.
Kara was just in the right place at the right time and it’s a perfect ending for her that she couldn’t build a fire to save her life.
Angelina, despite her admiration for herself, was taken along as the “asshole that makes the people sitting with her look good.” The fact that she couldn’t find the HII on her own, and that she was still sooo impressed with herself, is something that maybe she can reflect upon later.
And Mike was the forgettable character who was enjoying the ride but didn’t have it in him to make a big move.
So I’m glad that Kentucky Nick won.
I liked the new format for the finale: No wasted time with melancholy walks down memory lane. No time wasted kissing some celebrity fan’s ass. (Sia, I’m looking at you.) And I liked how they cut away as each player was voted off to get their reaction immediately after the viewers saw it.
The new season has some returning players. I hate that. This season was a perfect example why we don’t need NBA players or returning characters to have a compelling cast of characters. Ah well.
Forgettable? I don’t think so - I’ve remembered him since he was on The Amazing Race several years ago. And he played a very good game as well, and did get 3 votes. Who knows - he may have gotten more if he wasn’t a rich writer from Hollywood while his opponent grew up in a trailer with a dad who sold blood plasma to buy milk.
I think Nick matured a lot in this season… in the first episode, he came across very strongly as a hayseed, aw-shucks Kentucky boy and it was kind of smug and irritating. That is absolutely not the guy who spoke his piece at the final Tribal council.
I’m finding it strange that so many people are scoffing at Angelina being a POC, not just here but also on Twitter. It seems pretty straightforward to me that she’s a Latina. I’m as annoyed by many of her personality traits as anyone else, but on this specific point I don’t get why people are scoffing.
