Survivor 4/13: "Fight for Your Life or Eat"

No Survivor thread again. sigh They really are pretty boring and stupid, aren’t they? I keep hoping something exciting or at least mildly entertaining will happen but Terry seems determined to keep anything that would set my wicked little heart leaping for joy from occurring.

I mean, when the other tribe is practically DARING you to slap back, you FREAKIN’ SLAP BACK! Geez…

Man, a straightforward pagonging is boring beyond belief. The only thing I enjoyed tonight was watching Shane totally lose it over his video snippet. Papa T. and I were debating just how much of what Shane does is pretense. We’ve pretty much settled on 99%.

Now watch Terry win every immunity the rest of the way through. <yawn>

The Pagonging will be at least put on hold next week…one of them is going home. What gets me is how incredibly stupid Bruce and Courtney are. They KNOW that Terry has the idol, they KNOW that one of them is going home next week WHETHER OR NOT he wins immunity, and yet they STILL vote with the pack.
Hell, I’d love it if Terry won every single immunity and outlasted all those pissants.
No, wait…what would be better is if he LOST immunity next week, and had to use the idol, and then they thought they had him…and THEN he won every single immunity till the final 3. THAT would be beautiful.

Just a nasty thought, but…the camera men aren’t actually there 24 hours a day, are they? So someone waits until they’re gone, late night, and slips the Hidden Idol out of Terry’s gear, then tosses it out into the ocean.

Now what happens? Would Terry still be allowed to use the HI without having it?

The other players (except the guilty one, of course) could say that Terry had hinted that he had it, or that he’d shown them something but they have no way of knowing if it was the real HI or just some bluff and now he’s ditched it because it was a fake and wouldn’t pass inspection…

I think Terry’s actually sitting pretty good right now. The mere existence of the idol should be enough to sway some members of the alliance of 6 to break ranks next time. Giving Sally the idol would have accomplished nothing. 5-2 isn’t appreciably different from 6-2. But now, something’s gotta give. What do you do, vote 6-1 for Terry and let him pick off whoever he wants? Or do you split the alliance (gonna happen the next time regardless) now and try to use Terry’s vote to put your sub-alliance ahead of the other? Even if he doesn’t have the necklace, it’s now terribly dangerous to vote for him, because you’re risking your group losing the vote. At this point it really wouldn’t surprise me if Terry managed to use the mere threat of the idol to make it to the final 4, at which point he’s just two challenges from getting into the final pair. And he has got to be a huge favourite in the traditional final endurance challenge.

But yeah, the last three episodes have been some boring.

Was tonight’s immunity challenge especially made for Terry, the Navy fighter pilot or what? Did you see how his eyes lit up when Jeff explained the challenge? I’m thinking he’s had a lot of training on staying under water, and being able to memorize sequences.

Gee, Terry, you finally figured out the stratgy you should have used two Immunity Challenges ago!!

So apparently a little editing magic took place tonight. Terry actually finished his puzzle first in the immunity challenge, but got it wrong and took off back into the water…same with Sally. Aras was taking his time, and thought he had it right…but didn’t realize until it was too late that each skull was subtly different.

While Aras was back in the water a second time with Sally, Terry got the puzzle right on his second try.

Thank you for the behind-the-scenes, Lockseer. Please keep them up (for as long as Aras is around, which might not be past next week if there isn’t a scramble); outside of Middleman’s Rich Rankings, it’s about the only thing going for this season’s show.

That said, I think next week might see things get interesting: clearly, Casayas are going to start eating their own and they’re not the most stable bunch (emotionally speaking). If Aras does go (he’ll likely get Terry’s vote), I don’t see who is going to put a halt to Terry’s steamroller.

Gonna miss Sally’s smile. :frowning:

And just to reiterate, Aras hasn’t given me any spoilers…just comments on past events, so hopefully that doesn’t violate the non-disclosure agreement. Still no idea who makes it to the final two…

On a related note, I work for one of DIRECTV’s advertising agencies, and in an effort to better understand the technician’s and consumer’s experience during the installation process, I did a sort of job shadow thing with an installer, where he had to install three receivers, the dish and a DVR for a Los Angeles resident.

We were there for about four hours, and only toward the very end did I find out that the owner was an editor for Survivor. Small world. Told him I was watching with Aras and his family tonight, and he said…

  1. The editors all love Aras. He’s constantly helping others, and is truly selfless. While I don’t see him being edited as a prick, I see that others do, and I didn’t think to ask him why he wasn’t edited to reflect more their perspective on him. They had just finished editing episode 13 (which is when the tribe goes from six to five), and it was sent to Burnett for final approval today…

  2. Apparently Terry is a major ass/jerk/egomaniac.

  3. They really didn’t care for Bruce, either. Apparently this manifested itself in the editing of the “fish head chopping” challenge, where Bruce was having a hell of a time hacking off the head of a large fish (until Bobby came in and saved the day). I guess it did take him a while to cut the head off…but they made it look a LOT more arduous through the editing. And the editor admitted it was mostly because they couldn’t stand him. Nice.

Lockseer, thank you for the behind the scenes stuff - it’s fascinating! Feed us more whenever you can, please!

Having said that, though, the two points quoted above are eyerollingly obvious to everyone.

Poor Cirie, having to check out Shane’s bumpy boys. I loved that she just kept laughing, though. How fitting that he has diaper rash!

How many pilots does it take to change a light bulb?
One. He holds onto it, and the world revolves around him.

How do you know there’s a pilot at your party?
He’ll tell you.

Not looking good for Bruce on the preview. I guess he’s the one they showed being taken away on a stretcher a few weeks ago? Good for Terry, bad for Terry maybe. Good, since he’ll only have to win three more immunities (I think – I’m not quite awake yet). Bad, because Bruce may be /have been more likely to flip than the others.

I thought it was one of the girls, Danielle or Courtney. They showed someone getting an IV, and IMO, it looked like a girl’s arm. I’d have to go back and check my tape, though.

The preview showed Bruce getting sick, and then the commercial they showed during CSI had the medical emergency. I think it’d be pretty coincidental if Bruce got sick and then something happened to somebody else.

The sad thing is that the commercials were the most exciting thing last night. le sigh And those stupid family videos always make me cry, because I’m just that lame.

I was mixed on whether Terry should give Sally the HI last night, just to see what happened to the majority with Aras gone. That is one unstable group, and things should get good as soon as they start feeding on themselves. Also, he would do best to get rid of Aras, instead of allowing the dominant faction of the idiot alliance to sort out its own pecking order. BTW - what do you guys see as the dominant 3-4 in that group of fools?

Of course, with only - what - 4 more IC to get to the final 3?, a free pass for 1 gives Terry all that better odds. And they keep getting better each immunity he wins.
I’m not convinced it is wise to show the idol to so many folk. If Rufus could steal shoes, someone could steal the idol.

And yeah - newsflash. A military pilot turns out to be a cocky SOB. Pretty much goes with the job description. Doesn’t detract from the fact that he’s doing pretty impressively in the challenges.

In other breaking news, water is declared to be wet.

After the episode, Aras turned to us and asked if there were any questions we had about the episode…

  1. His dad: “Yeah, how come you can’t win any challenges?”

  2. His friend: “So, do you and Terry have a rivalry going, or is it really more of a man-crush?”

“Man-Crush” is my new favorite phrase. I’m dying over here.

Can you fill me in? I’ve been reading the threads but haven’t seen your previous posts.

You know Aras? How?

Here’s how bad it is at casa rockle: I cancelled my Season Pass for “Survivor,” but there was nothing else on last night at 8:30, so hubby and I watched, just to kill time. His comment at 8:47? “You really miss Tom and Ian, don’t you?” To which I replied, with absolutely no irony whatever, “Hell, I miss Judd.”
