Survivor 4/16 - "Bag of Tricks"

I am digging this season because they are playing it like it should be played: Scorched Earth-style
(It’s not the way to win, but the way to make it entertaining!)

Does mental acuity take time to replenish? Physically I think they fully recover after a week or so of nutrition, is it the same recovery time for intellect? I do think the challenge was harder by them going piece by piece. If they had just said red, green, blue, yellow, blue, now put all your blocks in order and reveal all at once, I think it would have gone longer.

Poor LJ. Such a cold reception at Ponderosa by Sarah and Morgan. We may be in for a pretty bitter jury. (or is that petty, bitter jury?)

I called LJ from the start. The IC wasn’t too tough I thought. It’s not like the old days when they really were starving( ie Africa, the Amazon…)

I’m wondering if there were a bunch of rounds where everyone got it right that they didn’t show – they jumped from four blocks to, what, eight or nine? (I’ve already forgotten the mnemonic I made up as I was playing along.)

Great blindside … though there’s one jury vote Tony will never, ever get, and of course the editing made it clear throughout the episode what was going to happen.

I am liking the way Spencer and Tash are playing the game.

Great season!

I really like the look on Kass’ face when she realized what happened.

Anyone surprised that the only one shown taking a shower is the dude from the Beauty tribe? And not the guys from the Brawn or Brain tribes?

Good Challenges this week. Spencer and Tash are playing hard without it being in your face like
Tony. I hope they make to the Finals.

The pretty blonde girl is not getting much camera time, she is probably destined to be voted out soon.

I’m pretty surprised things didn’t blow up in Tony’s face. I picture my own Survivor game being a terrible version of his. Paranoid, OCD, and non-committal. I’d want to cover every single possible move, while still being as loyal as possible - even Trish wouldn’t be able to trust me. Getting LJ out solves a major problem for Tony - having his lies come back and bite him (aside from during the Final vote).

No idea why he’s sticking to the construction worker angle. He’s told at least half the contestants that he’s a cop, right? What protection does he think that lie offers him?

I got to think that Tony is being edited as the Final Tribal Council Goat. All this lying is going to come back and bite him during the Q&A at FTC.

I’m thinking Tony made his move too soon. I’d bet that sitting around on the island with nothing to do, with a bunch of people who are hardcore Survivor fans, lends itself to people getting antsy and just wanting to make a move as soon as they can. I’d wager that everyone’s figured out Tony can’t be trusted by now (and if he makes it to the final somehow, Sarah will certainly tell everyone he’s a cop, not construction).

Spencer seems to be getting a lot of showtime, I’m starting to think he’ll either win or be the typical contentious fourth-place finisher.

You mean from an eye-candy perspective? No, not really surprised.

At tribal council while Spencer was talking I thought to myself: “Geez, how does his hair look so good? Does he have a superpower or something?” Then I remembered that he showered earlier that day. I then made a point to notice the hillbilly dude’s hair, which was also conspicuously clean looking.

He certainly has hurt his reliability rep but I’m not sure this was “too soon”. This was his last chance to get a solid 3 votes from the “outsiders”. With the vote splitting, he didn’t even need Wu to get rid of LJ. If he had stuck with the alliance to the final 6, who knows how it would shake out for him. It all depends how it goes from here. Can he convince his old alliance it was for the greater good to get rid of LJ and go final 5 with them or does he completely change course and go final 5 with Wu+outsiders? The former is unlikely but would be better, the latter would put him at the bottom of that new alliance methinks.

I dislike Tony, but it was smart to get rid of LJ. He was a sure win if he made it to the end. The only question is whether this was the best time to make that move.

I liked LJ but it was the smart play.

He was going to have to get rid of LJ at some point it he wanted to win because he loses to LJ at FTC and LJ was in a good position that would probably get stronger.

I (like Tony) would have thought that it should have been obvious for LJ and Jefra to flip to Spencer/Tasha/Jeremiah at 9, but, because of the idol play earlier, LJ actually trusted Tony. This is where sometimes it’s not good to make your own plays anticipating that your opponents will make the best play for themselves, because you’re so persuasive as to make them blind to that possibility.

She’s had so little screen time and game play that I think she’s going to be this season’s goat. She’s probably handy around camp, but she is doing nothing to get further in the game except join alliances and then stare in slack-jawed amazement as the movers & shakers in her alliances get voted out for being too much of a threat. Perfect final vote ballast.

Agreed.
