I couldn’t wait for someone to start the thread this week.
I LMAO at the cheesy Porn music while Woo was eating the ribs and Probst was giving a play-by-play.
Tony is so paranoid. Got two idols and only 6 left. He is safe until final four and I don’t think he can use it pass then.
Bye Bye Jefra. You were the easiest on the eyes.
Looks like they are setting up for a Final Two this season. Amazing Race finale appears to be Mothers Day (May 11). I assume that Survivor finale is May 18th, and that means two more episodes, before that finale where there will be four players left. TAR and Survivor started late this season because of the Olympics
I am not a huge Tony fan, but his ego and paranoia are causing the game to be played the way I’ve always wanted to see it, with alliances only lasting long enough to get you through the next Tribal Council. Best season in years.
Proof! I’ve always suspected that some of the pretty/exciting wildlife featured in the interstitial establishing shots wasn’t just randomly shot in nature by Survivor camera-people. This episode had a lovely hornbill… eating a mealworm. An almost certainly farmed super worm. I bet it was in a zoo.
Anyhoo, Tony is indeed making the season interesting. And why shouldn’t he? With his idol combo he is pretty goddamn bullet proof. I think he’ll get some final council votes too.
The funniest moment of this episode, IMO, was when Woo said words to the effect that,
“Sometimes Tony and I are just on the same wavelength.”
This was immediately following Tony telling him about his idea to boot Jefra. In other words, Tony had just told Woo what wavelength he was on. Then Woo tried to tell the camera crew just how clever he (Woo) was for being on the same wavelength as Tony.
I wonder why none of the players seem to have figured out that they really do need to run a vote against Tony.
They may not know he has two idols and that one is an idol that works after the vote is read. But the effect of that is that they have to vote out Tony 3 times to before they can be certain that he will be gone.
It amazed me to see how easily and effectively Spence stoked Tony’s paranoia. Then again, with Tony, maybe ‘amazed’ is far too strong of a word.
Did like Jephra’s body. She had a beautiful tan that I noticed in last week’s show when she got hit in the head with an oar while paddling in the reward challenge. A deep golden tan.
Just once I’d like to see some clueless contestant say on their exit camera time something like :
“Sometimes you play the game. Sometimes the game plays you. Guess what?”
“I wonder why none of the players seem to have figured out that they really do need to run a vote against Tony.”
What I meant to say was:
“I wonder why none of the players seem to have figured out that what they now really need to do is engineer three votes against Tony before they can be reasonably certain he will be gone.”
That is a pretty tall order. But I’m sure they can do i if they try.
I don’t understand the Tony hate. Yeah, a few of his decisions have been weird (lying about being a cop, his turn on Sarah), but he’s not a nasty player. He’s worked and found three hidden immunity idols, orchestrated a few blindsides, and is, as far as I can tell, a decent person. His paranoia is a little over the top, but it’s worked for him so far. What struck me this episode is how genial people are with him. If he was truly annoying (and I’m not talking Secret Agent Phil levels of annoying), we’d see more examples. The moment between him and Spencer coming back from the auction was an example of him being genial. He wasn’t gloating, he was being empathetic. That will clearly change next episode - at least between him, Cass and Trish.
Speaking of Cass… I know Tony has gotten the villain edit - but is Cass getting the petty edit, or is that just her real personality?
I think you are entirely correct and it reminds me of something I once read about John Cleese and his sitcom “Fawlty Towers”.
He said that he has met hundreds of people and gotten just as much feedback in the mail and that people almost universally hated the Sybil character but loved most all of the other characters.
He said words to the effect that he could never understand that since Sybil was the only character who seemed to be on top of things. She knew what she was doing and kept the business on the straight and narrow. The other characters pretty much all tended to be screwups.
I seem to recall that he concluded people just resent those who force them to work and to do their jobs correctly and efficiently.
Tony has been a good player. He has worked hard and has made some negative observations about the other players. According to John Cleese, that would be enough to get him a whole bunch of negative feedback.
I found the food auction seriously fanned the flames of my negative feelings towards Probst on account of the way he hosts. He seems to care very little for the suffering of the contestants when there is any chance he can get higher ratings for the show. What was with all his questions to the people who were starving and had just won some food that were like the following?
“Before you go, before you taste that food, tell us what you expect it to taste like. Can you put the expected taste into words?”
I got the feeling that Probst was trying to generate higher ratings for his show by getting the contestants to slather all over the microphone about how great they expected this food to taste and how wonderful this game is and how hard it is to play because they are always so hungry. I found that very disgusting. These people were starving. Why not let them eat their food? It was their food. Maybe Probst wanted higher ratings. But these starving people wanted to eat.
I have had some very negative opinions about the way Probst hosts this game for a long time now and maybe I will start another thread about that soon (or maybe next season). Actually, I’m guessing there is probably already some existing thread and I’d like to see how the people on this board feel about the way Probst hosts this game.
It was very different during the first and second season. But it changed sometime after that. Perhaps that had something to do with his getting a percentage of the profits and therefore having a vested interest in generating the highest ratings he could.
Does anyone happen to have a link to any such thread?
I think if Tasha makes it to the final, Spencer will vote for her out of loyalty, assuming she doesn’t betray him in some way between here & the end (and maybe even if she does). If Tasha doesn’t make it, then yes, Spencer will absolutely vote for Tony, because Spencer is a fan of the game, and Tony has clearly been playing the game better than anyone else. Only Kass has even come close, and the fact that Kass threw Spencer under the bus more than once will make it easy for Spencer to pick Tony.
With the way things are going right now, here’s how I think people will vote for or against Tony:
On the jury:
Sarah: Nope. They’ve given her a very anti-Tony edit during her scenes on the jury, and I suspect that will stay.
Morgan: 50/50. Sarah’s probably gotten into her ear, but it will probably come down to who the other two are.
LJ: Nope. He’s a Tony backstab victim.
Jeremiah: Yes. I think he’ll vote for the best game played. Unless Spencer is an option, Tony’ll get his vote.
Jefra: Unlikely. There’s a small chance that she misunderstands the purpose of the final vote, and tries to order pizza.
Spencer: Absolutely, unless Tasha is an option. He only respects game players. Trish has done nothing, and he despises Kass. Woo is a non-entity.
Tasha: Would probably vote for Kass over Tony, and Spencer over those two, but Tony’d be third on her list.
Trish: I’m not sure how to read her. This next week will likely see Tony manufacturing a men v. women split, sealing his fate with Trish.
Woo: Yes. I’m not sure who else he’d vote for over Tony. Maybe Tasha?
Kass: Would likely vote for Tasha - but where do the guys fall for her? She seems to somewhat respect the game, and would vote for Tony. I think she sees Spencer’s game as immature and poorly thought out for some reason (well, pettiness. Pettiness is her reason). But I think she’d vote for Spencer over Woo. Trish would have to make strong push (winning final immunity?) - but I could see Kass putting too much emphasis on the “Flying Under the Radar” portion of Outwit - Outlast - Outplay.
Also what the hell is up with the Ponderosa folks this season. No one gets met at the door, they’re all just hanging out at the bar, no real excitement at seeing the players, no bonding. It’s odd.
If Spencer or Tasha get to FTC, they win IMO. Not sure who wins if both of them get there.
Tony wins if he gets to FTC with no Spencer, no Tasha.
I like Survivor, but I am not interested in seeing the players suffer. Let them have some decent clothes and shoes (w/ a rain poncho) and an ample supply of rice.
And I don’t want to see challenges where there is a high risk of injury.
I guess I am one of the few people that is not bothered by Redemption Island. But only pre-merge.
I agree with muldoonthief. Spencer is a lover of the game and only a loyalty vote to Tasha is gonna stop him voting for Tony.
Oh, I doubt it’s as Machiavellian as that. In the first two seasons the Survivors were given a lot less supplies, so harping on the point was less necessary and more unseemly.
Right?! They seem awfully bitter and unable to leave the game behind them. Though if that was the case shouldn’t they be talking about he game much more? That’s what I’d tune into see: People talking about the game, by people who were IN the game.
I’ve been begging for people to make that threat since a few seasons ago. But I think it’s only a threat, (that may come true). It’s designed to get the people at the bottom half of the totem pole to start making moves and not just blindly follow the leader. “If all you want to do is get to the end and sit next to ‘that guy’ then you’re gonna lose. So try to sit next to someone else.”
Tony has the opportunity to pick his final 4, though I’m not sure who he’ll pick. If he loses the final IC, that may be the only chance they have to get him out.
