Survivor 4/29: "A Chapera Surprise"

As much as I dislike Rob, the other players almost deserve to lose to him. I said it from the begninning-- never allow a couple to stay on the island. It’s too powerful an alliance. Remember what happened in the first show when Colleen and what’s-his-name started pairing off? That got nipped in the budd.

Rupert and Tom seem too afraid to go against Rob, as they must think the other guy will defect and stay on Rob’s side. From the previews, this seems to be what plays out on camera next week.

Ahh, Greg Buis. I believe he still ranks as Jeff Probst’s least-favorite Survivor player.

In truth, his ousting had nothing to do with the coupling of he and Colleen Haskell. He was on the wrong side of a Pagonging, and was eliminated by the Tagi alliance of Rich, Sue and Rudy after the merge – second only to Pagong leader Gretchen Cordy.

BTW, for those interested parties that missed Survivor: Pulau Tiga, the entire first season of Survivor is due to be released on DVD, on May 11th.

Oh, I don’t know if anyone would rank lower than last season’s Osten.

Munch I have to agree with you on here.

Err, I have to agree with you about Osten.

It might be close, but I’d still have to give the nod to Greg, if only because of some of the details in the first “Survivor” book.

Apparently Greg didn’t take the game seriously at all, and even went so far as to disrespect Jeff on-camera (not shown, of course) and taunt players during the Tribal vote. In addition, his vote during the finale was nothing more than a thumbed-nose at the entire process – he voted for Rich to win solely because Rich chose the number closest to the one Greg was thinking of at the time.

Osten might have been worthless, no question, and quitting is a good way to get on Jeffy’s bad side…but Greg tried to make Jeff look like a fool, and you don’t mess with Big Poppa in his house.

Just to be bitchy, I would like to point out that Stud “Jeff” McMuffin didn’t like Robb-with-two-B’s from Thailand much, either. He didn’t hate him as much as Greg or Osten, but Jeffy didn’t like him just the same.

If we’re talking about players who annoyed Jeff, don’t forget Johnny Fairplay. Jeff was noticeably annoyed with him.

But probably not as much as Osten or Greg.

NM does happy dance. Thats awesome! I loved the first season the best. . . it may not be anymore, but you know what they say about your first time.

Does anyone else want to see all the footage from Big Tom and Robs family party? I think we missed some hysterical stuff on the cutting room floor. Also, did you catch Rob telling his brother about the Lex situation? “What an idiot!” That was funny.

I was fooled by Shii Ann - I thought for sure she was talking about Rob. I hope in fact her vote does serve as a wake-up for the remaining members.

I take hope in this: in almost no previous seasons has the person who looked strongest at this point actually ended up winning. The exception may be the aforementioned season one.

Down with tha Rawbfather - Rupert rules!

Oh, and if Amber stabs Rob in the back? I will be doing another, much longer, happy dance.

Jumping in late again.

I think Shii Ann made one big mistake. If she was trying to take out Jenna, she was going to need Rob’s vote. So she should have come up with a better plan to convince him it was in his best interest. When he ran that line about having given his word, she should have called him on it and reminded him that he’s betrayed people before when it was in his best interest. Then she should have pointed out that it was dangerous for Rob to leave jenna in the show; Rob and Amber are now balanced with the Rupert/Jenna alliance, which means Tom’s in a position to ally with either pair and vote out the other. If Jenna had been kicked off, Rob and Amber would have been left with Rupert, Tom, and Shii Ann, none of whom were allied together and all three of them would have been eager to join with the only remaining pair as the third vote to form a majority. Shii Ann could have pointed this out to Rob while complimenting him on how smart he was (which Rob loves to hear) and he may have decided to back her and oust Jenna.

I agree with Shii Ann that Amber is playing a better game than is apparent. But for Amber to win, she’s going to have to one thing: stab Rob in the back. Her strategy of riding his coattails has taken her far and probably would get her into the final two. But noboady would vote for her if she got there that way. Her only chance for the million is to show she was secretly manipulating Rob the whole time and the only way to do that is to take the lead in ousting him.
