Survivor 4/29: "A Chapera Surprise"

in the previous post,
intently= intensity for those not fluent in ‘wolfman drunk, type bad’ language.

This is what I find interesting. Obviously, Shii-Ann and Jenna hate each other. From last week’s meal thing, with Rupert giving Tom the cold potatoes and this week with Tom snubbing Rupert and giving the family member visit to Rob (and dissing Rupert for “slobbering” all over his wife), it’s clear those two don’t like each other at all.
Given the dynamics, I would think those four would be natural pairs; or rather, the most likely to be friendly at the very least. I would have bet Shii-Ann and Jenna formed an alliance, and that Tom and Rupert formed an alliance - so why do they all hate each other so much?

Actually, I think Rupert and Tom get along well enough. Tom does seem to have a lot of respect for Rupert’s work ethic and sense of humor, and I think Rupert feels likewise. Looks to me like Tom picked Rob for the “extra” reward for the same reason Rupert gave the #2 meal to Rob last week - to protect his place in the pecking order. I think both Tom and Rupert are smart enough to have realized that, whatever Rob said to them, he had to have said the same thing to someone else too. They’re just doing what they must to keep their own heads off the block.

This strikes me as possible, but I think both of these guys are of the “first-come-first-served” mentality, so their initial alliances with Rob “trump” any alliances they might have with each other. At this point, their major issue with each other seems to be one of competition - if Rob is gone, they each view the other as the major competition. Or, maybe I just give them too much credit.

What boggles the mind is why Tom and Rupert didn’t get together and vote off Rob when they had the chance! He’s the biggest threat to either of them as a competitor and voting him off would DEFINITELY protect their place in the pecking order because they would have gotten rid of the Big Guns AND would have weakened the strong 2-man alliance he’s got with Ambuh.

According to People Magazine…

Rob and Amber are still togther and very happy. If this is true I don’t see how she could have betrayed him on the island.

I agree with you. They have been smart enough to make it to the final five. Us viewers may not like that Ramber are still around, but there was not a whole lot of incentive for Rupert Tom and Jenna to vote them off in place of other people. All that would give you is two different people to compete with. And I think Rob’s days of dominating challenges is over. Tom is in a pretty good position, he can side with Rob and Amber or Rupert and Jenna to make it to the final three barring how immunities work out. It is now up to Rupert or Jenna to convince Tom that while he can go to the final three with either group, he is more likely to get to the final two going with Rupert and Jenna as they are not as tight as Ramber.

You KNOW Big Tom would just wait until you were asleep and cook your dogs into one of his “varmi’t” stews…

The self-absorbed useless coat-tail riding Shii Ann is gone. I love her “mastermind” delusions. Spending 95% of your time pining away after Richard Hatch or nodding your head vigorously wheneven Kathy spoke is not playing a good game. You played a stupid game the first go around and was booted real early- the only reason you got on AS is better players did not want to come. The human fall-back school. Making one of the biggest blunders in Survivor history does not make you a good player. Plus people couldn’t stand you the first time, and surprise they disliked you the second time.

The only reason you lasted this long was your complete lack of a threat and one semi-bogus immunity challenge.

Regarding Amber- she and Rob are stuck with each other. Rob says he has to trust her because anyone else there would betray him in his mind. The funny thing is Amber may match up the worst against Rob, as she could be percieved as being his plaything (remember the uses sex appeal answer in the quiz- 100% Amber) and not sufficiently worthy of winning. Amber’s best bet it to lose Rob and prove she is a player to the jury.

Everyone else is best suited to keeping Rob against them with the Jury, has he has a large group of people that will never vote for him.

Frankly, now that the last of the real losers is gone I would be happy to see any of the other players win- they have all earned it in one way or another.

It’s very possible to do so. Rob knows full well that he’s pulled a lot of backstabbing - and he’s expressed wishes for those maneuvers to stay in the game (i.e. the business with Lex). Amber can do the same - especially this far along.

I want to know why every 2-person alliance has the duo going to the final 2. If I were in it, I’d make an alliance where whoever wins the final challenge votes the other off - finish #1 and #3. That way, you get a guaranteed vote on the jury.

I haven’t participated in many of these threads so I’ll kind of do an all encompasing review rather than just on the previous episode. Most will be focused on Rob, he’s the most interesting. I may have disliked Rob on the last survivor he was on, I don’t remember but I sure do like him on this one…

He’s the first survivor since Richard Hatch in the first survivor to have a solid plan in play. He’s a little cocky for my liking but I think he understands more than anyone else that he isn’t in this to make 17 friends. He relies on one person, Amber, that’s it. Amber might selll him out but I am not so sure, she probably thinks she’ll be able to beat Rob by virtue of the fact that everybody else on the jury hates him (this may backfire, see later).

That brings me to my next point. I love how he gets rid of people he has false alliances with immediately (see Lex, and there was one more just afterward but I can’t remember). Keeping them in the game too long will only blow up in his face.

Earlier, someone brought up that people keep Rob in because they think they can beat him with the jury’s vote. The other survivors may very well think this but I’d be careful if I were them. I can see a whole Will from Big Brother (2?) thing happening here. People end up voting for Rob simply because they admire how well he played the game.

Why have I focused mostly on Rob? As much as I like everyone else who is left, they haven’t done enough, in my opinion, to warrent them winning the game. Rob has played his ass off, and I think very well.

How I see the next few votes going?

Jenna (don’t think this one is rocket science)
Rupert (provided he doesn’t get immunity)
Tom (depending on immunity)

This leaves Rob and Amber in the final two.

I think Rob blows her out of the water in the vote.

For those who keep wondering why Rupert doesn’t take out Rob…because he knows it would be a stupid thing to do. If he got Jenna and Tom and Shiiann to vote out Rob this last vote, who would be the very next person gone? Him…he would be the next biggest challenge threat and someone that no one would want to take to the final two. Right now, that spot is filled by Rob. As things stand, Rupert at least believes he is a shoe-in for the final four. At that point, he probably hopes to win a couple challenges and do the best he can. To me, that seems his best shot right now.
But watching previews, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets pissed off and blows it this next episode and gets voted off.

I see next week as the last opportunity for Jenna, Rupert and Tom to deny Rob and Amber the Final Two. And I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest they’re going to take that opportunity.

What day is the show on next week? I seem to remember Mark Burnett saying he and CBS weren’t foolish enough to put his show up against the Friends series finale. But that’s next Thursday, right?

I was thinking that too … but then again, this is the point in the game where the previews turn into big fat hairy stupid liars. So maybe Rupert will end up winning immunity next week, and who knows what the hell will happen then?

I completely agree with you here … but then again, I also completely agree with RikWriter’s assessment, too. Either way, unless Rupert wins immunity, I think he’s only got one, maybe two TC’s left (barring divine intervention).

Good point. Also…

If Amber wins the million. I’m sure it’d make it a lot easier for him to forgive her. Having a rich girlfriend is nice.

Honey, you don’t have to put that in a spoiler box, since it’s just speculation. We need to save the spoiler boxes for the real spoilers, so’s not to lull us into complacency.

I checked TV Guide. It looks like NBC is having a Friends Retrospective at 8:00 pm (7:00 central) with the Friends Series Finale at 9:00 pm (8:00 central). Survivor is scheduled at its regular time on Thursday, 8:00 pm (7:00 central).

Here on Global TV, we’ve got the Friends Retrospective at 7, Survivor at 8, and the Friends Finale at 9.

I know. I’m completely paranoid about possibly spoiling anything about Survivor. It’s been drummed into my head on another board, which shall remain unnamed.

I think Amber would be wise to make that happen, actually. If Amber goes up against Rob, she’s got the same enemies he does (Kathy and Lex, especially) without the “I was the mastermind” excuse.

If Amber engineers Rob’s exit at some point, he’ll probably still vote for her – he’s demonstrated that he can separate good game play from personal feeling.

And no one really seems to like Jenna all that much. Compared to Rob, Amber’s a coattail rider, but compared to Jenna, she’s a mastermind herself.

I don’t really expect her to do it, but I’ll be impressed if she does.

I can’t believe Rupert and Jenna didn’t pair up with Shi-Ann and Tom long enough to boot Amber or Rob.
