Sorry to throw this up last minute, I’m a little hungover. Word of advice, don’t take a shot every time the word “Albanian” is said in the premiere.
Anyway, Survivor Season not quite 50 has begun. No real stand outs in the cast. Blue seems like the designated hot mess tribe, but we’ll see if they can bounce back.
Early prediction: Jake (the Australian Chippendale) will be a zero-vote finalist.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Two castaways from this season will be returning for Survivor 50 and their names have already leaked. DO NOT post that info in this thread as that presumably spoils how well they’ll do this season.
One thing I noticed is that all the players seem genuinely likable. I didn’t notice anyone being a total ass, though Thor’s hide-a-shoe thing is kinda stupid. I think the person voted out would have provided some interesting TV later in the season.
Yep. This was an interesting episode. The people I was prepared to immediately hate weren’t too bad.
And that Puzzle/Ship Wheel? Holy frijoles that was interesting. I mean, if you LITERALLY see the guy running over to check your puzzle, break the darn thing up!
I think he would have, but when he didn’t find the wheel he started to doubt where it was and wanted to be able to check. Advice for future castaways, if you have to dig for something, it’s always going to be deeper than you think.
Exactly! Why he didn’t take a few key pieces with him is insane. He’ll, you could even use them to dig with, saving wear on your hands while denying your opponent vital info.
I’ve taken an early dislike to Savannah, the “former reporter.” She strikes me as an entitled pretty girl who’s never actually had to work for anything in her life. I hope to see her get humbled a bit.
What surprised me most was how blindsided Nicole was. She was the obvious vote, even more so when people couldn’t keep their mouths shut at Tribal. Can’t believe she got lured into believing she was safe, after all her talk about being able to read people.
I’m disappointed she didn’t try something to turn the others against each other. It probably wouldn’t have worked, but I hate seeing players go down without a fight.
Well, that was an OK episode. Introduced a lot of people.
During the 3-person island match, I would have tried to make a team-up with one other person to get the other guy out.
They are HORRIBLE about keeping things secret. I understand sharing the beware advantage with his friend, but then two others are on it? Ugh. And she did the WORST job of re-hiding the idol i’ve ever seen.
How. On. Earth. Did. They. Lose. With. That. Advantage! Good gravy, that’s the worst flub I’ve ever seen. Puzzle Dude has proven his worth twice now.
That’s two people in a row who were very obviously getting voted out yet had no idea whatsoever. Annie calling herself the “puppet master” was hilarious.
I guess it’s good to get these absolutely clueless players out early so we can watch people who actually know how to play the game later on.
Uh, I guess they didn’t throw it to go after their idol, but it looked like it.
Annie did the right thing when voted out. Got upset, took a breath, wished everyone well. It’s hard when you are so upset, but you look much better on TV when you do it.
All I can figure is that they are just really really bored out there. Stirring up some random action might be a way to not go crazy? It’s not like he’s hiding them or destroying things (or stealing food like some have done). He’s just moving them.
I dunno, could be jerkish or could just be silly pranks. I think time will tell.
I actually haven’t finished the episode yet, but since Annie’s tribe lost the challenge (intentionally?) it seems really clear that they are voting her off. Glad to see that’s what happened.
There have been former Survivor contestants who’ve gone on to compete on other shows or establish careers in different media. Boston Rob and Amber, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Kim Wolfe (nee Spradlin), and Jonny Fairplay, among several others come to mind.
It may have happened more organically before, but by now, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if some Survivor players are trying to make themselves stand out (even in really stupid ways like stealing shoes) with the explicit goal of getting noticed enough to be cast in other things later.
The impression I got was Annie yelling at them about how to do the puzzle, but being completely ineffectual at it. At one point prompting the response that the piece she was telling them to move was fixed to the deck.
To me, it really made her look like someone who thought she was in charge, but was just flailing around yelling orders that just interfered more than helped. Never can tell what is an editing choice, what is “real”, and what is over-interpreting on my part, but it sure did telegraph that she would be the next one voted out.
It’s cyclical. Everyone is nostalgic for the earlier seasons, but forgets how half the casts would be bartenders, waiters, and “account reps” trying to kickstart their acting careers. Then we took a break from that, but now it’s back with them trying to become podcasters or social media influencers instead.
No real reason to do that though now. He would get a chance to get it eventually. Occam’s razor is they were really just that bad at the puzzle, especially since Sophie didn’t know about the idol at the time. The puzzle appeared to be set up with one fixed piece that you could then build off of. Instead of doing that she was trying to find out where a bunch of other pieces would go first.
I never get the weaker players who go “We need to get rid of the strong player before the merge because they’ll win all the challenges!” Does she really think that every immunity challenge is going to come down to her or Jake?
