Survivor Blood v Water season thread

Are you kidding? There is no way Tyson doesn’t win if he makes it the final jury.

QFT.

Monica said at some point tonight, pre-final tribal, that she might make another big move at tribal, right before she did jack - again - at tribal. I want to know what she thought her first “big move” was.

Also, I can’t believe Monica in the final tribal – three people say, “we don’t really know you, tell us who you are” - they’re saying, “we want to vote for you, give us a reason!”, and she gets defensive each time. Stupid, stupid.

Well, definitely a deserved win for Tyson, and while not the weakest Survivor, it was below average (like most ones with a mix of returning players and newbies).

Agreed. While Monica appeared clueless, Gervase at least seem to realize he backed himself into a corner. But that’s how the game works… you have to make alliances, and then you can’t really break them. If you suddenly flip on your alliance mates, no one trusts you. You’re better off sticking with your alliance until the end of the game, even if you know you can’t actually beat that person in a final jury vote.

I still think they should do a Survivor where they shakeup the tribes after every TC vote. Alliances can still form after the merge, but at least they wouldn’t exist on Day 1 and people might less likely to trust each other because there might be a lot more swapping.

I was really hoping he wouldn’t be allowed to come to the reunion show, and that Caleb would announce they broke up. Oh well.

Yeah, a little emotion can help, but getting overly emotional in response to every question is never a good move. I thought she had a chance to win while she was racking up immunity wins, but she never had the strategic element to her game. She was the very definition of being a talker, not a do-er. And she was letting her emotions get the best of her (“I want Tina out, not Ciera! She’s so mean!” “I want Gervase out, he’s talking like he’s already Final 3!”)

I’m glad there’s no returning players for next season, and hopefully no Redemption Island either. Not sure how the Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauties will be too interesting, though. There are always going to be overlaps, unless you somehow manage to make a tribe of 6 Cochrans vs. 6 Kats vs. 6 James.

I can attest as an NFL fan that there are countless lunkhead jocks who are ugly as sin, so the brawn team should be easy enough to fill. Though somehow I suspect that the brawn team will likely just be a “beauty” team for people into guys.

I gave up watching this season right before the merge. It was not only anticlimatic (I figured Tyson would be in the final 3 early on and probably winning the whole thing), but it also seemed to me a reunion of second string vets: Nobody was compelling enough for me to watch. For me, the players are just as important as the game.

Thank-you. I couldn’t be interested in watching the rest of the reunion show.

At any rate, I detest Tyson, but if I were on the jury I’d have to vote for him. He played the game 100x better than any of the other dolts in the final 3. Aras’ question made the other 2 realize they were doomed, too.

As soon Tina won RI I knew who the final three were.
There was no way that Tina would be capable to fight for the immunity challenge.
If it was Laura or Hayden then mayby Tyson would not win the two imunity challenges and the outcome would’ve been different.
There was no way Monica would switch now seeing who she would pair up with.
I think both Monica and Gervase knew that they were stuck and would not be in a position to win. On one hand they had Tyson and the other they had whoever (Ciera, Tina/Laura, Hayden) so the votes would either go to Tyson or the later.
So what do you do? you stay with your alliance.

I actually liked Tyson quite a bit this season, and I’m glad he won (though there was indeed little drama at the final TC). He actually had *fun *while playing a game – imagine that – and it made him fun to watch. The times he acted kind of dickish, he always seemed to do so with a wink, as if it was all a big performance for everyone’s amusement. When he said he did nothing out of malice, I believed him.

Monica’s repeated and highly emotional assertions that she wanted to be something besides Brad Culpepper’s wife and their kids’ mom were actually quite sad.

One idea I had was the following: In each tribal council, the two people with the most votes do a mini-challenge (e.g. build a fire), and whoever loses goes home.

What this accomplishes is that, even if there is, say, a 5-3 alliance the 5 are not guaranteed to make it 5-2, then 5-1, then 5-0. It’s possible that the person the 3 vote for ends up going home, making it a 4-3 imbalance, etc.

What do you guys think of this?

I agree. In past seasons I did not side with him, but this time he did quite well.

Very sad indeed.

At the final tribal council, I thought everyone was agreeable and not spiteful, except Vytas. As I recall, he essentially said “you suck, and you suck, and you suck, so I don’t know who I will vote for”.

It’s funny that this came from the seemingly amiable Yoga instructor. I don’t know how often this happens, but I’ve seen several people who are into Yoga, spirituality, Buddhism, philosophy, etc, actually be assholes at heart.

Do these people know they are assholes and get into “love thy fellow man” and “let’s all get along” practices so they can work on improving themselves, or do they not see any contradiction between their behavior and the philosophy of live they espouse?

Particularly since she also found out that she’s really happy being those things, and really good at it…

Tyson only mentioned once or twice one of his key strategies for staying strong: eat all the time. Prior to the mixup, whenever he & Gervase went to gather coconuts they’d eat some themselves before going back to camp, and after the mixup, he found himself in a tribe of noobs who followed his lead and cooked two or three times as much rice for any meal as previous seasons have. That helped him (in addition to being out with a shoulder injury for a couple weeks) keep his strength up and, if that final immunity challenge was any indication, it worked really well for him, Gervase and Monica. I’m wondering if they’re going to try to find a way to keep people from doing this in the future, but then they’re likely to end up with starving players again if it doesn’t work out.

For BBB, I can’t help but assume they’ve got a hard job stratifying the three groups–finding three brawny people who are actually kind of dim (Hayden), three smart people who are average-looking and weak (Coulton), and three pretty people who are neither smart nor strong (Jenna Morasca).

And by three people, I’m assuming three men and three women. I’m particularly looking forward to what they think of as a brawny woman.

Then again, maybe it’s not three groups–they’ve found 18 people who are ALL brawny, beautiful and smart. It’ll be like that Star Trek episode, where they visited the planet of scantily-clad, blond, jogging aerobics instructors.

I think you meant Cochrane, that other guy is none of the above.

My addendum to making flippers more common (breaking alliances) is to give some sort of ‘break’ during the next tribal to make it more appealing to flip. Whether it’s immunity or maybe just a couple anti-votes, a good simple understanding of who gets this reward would be necessary.
Another option would be instead of HII, Hidden Anti Vote Idols which will negate a single vote for you. And have more of them hidden about. (limit 3 per tribal, ties go to those with less HAVIs)

(my guess during the show last night was, Survivor: Better Business Bureau)

As soon as Tina tried to make that last minute deal with Monica I knew she was doomed.

My guess about BBB was Back to Borneo, Bitches!

I think that adds too much randomness to the process. Someone universally regarded as useless could lose the vote by 4,5,or even 6-1 and still get a do-over. Not to mention it takes up valuable screen time which has already been eaten up by things like Redemption Island.

I haven’t thought this through, but instead of giving out clues only to hidden immunity idols, shake it up with some other goodies. One could be a “fast-forward” of sorts, where a poor swimmer could skip a challenge swimming leg and run or canoe a similar distance instead. Another could be a universal “tribe shakeup” where a player with that clue could play it before TC and a switch is done before the vote.

how about a possible twist after the Merge. Final 7.

Immunity Winner gets reward, and takes two people on reward, skipping Tribal council completely.

In a 4-3 alliance. The entire 3 alliance is safe if they win immunity. One of the 4-alliance is at risk if they win immunity.

Similar scenarios for a 5-2 alliance.

Saw a tweet last night that BBB could have been Big Brother’s Best. Evel Dick, Amanda, Rachel, etc.

Where are the Brains?

  1. Make it a $2 million team prize, and don’t let them officially pick their teams until day 15 or so. Once the team is picked, it stays picked until the end.
  2. Co-joined twins Survivor. Still working out the kinks on this one.
