Survivor: Guatemala Ep. 13 - "Big Win, Big Decision. Big Mistake?"

Holy CRAP, you guys! They gave away a VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL in the preview for the Finale! I will NOT actually write it out, lest the very act change the winds of fate and cause what I saw to not be, but I can say this much: it is a VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL which pertains to TRIBAL COUNCIL. Yowza. My head. Thank you, TiVo!

Anyway … I have two questions regarding tonight’s episode that I would very much like answered: (1) When did Danni-Rafe-Lydia decide that Steph-Cindy would be the target at tonight’s TC? When Steph and Cindy were off at the reward? I missed that part because I was scarfing down Crab Rangoons. (2) Didn’t these people ever watch Survivor before? Why is Lydia still there? She is using the Vecepia-Sandra stealth strategy and I can’t believe she’s still around. I like her, but I just can’t belive she’s still around.

On a final note, shall I (or someone) create a new thread later for the final episode, or should we just continue to talk amongst ourselves here?

On preview: jayjay, I wonder if perhaps that wasn’t the old bait-and-switch? I might give Rafe too much credit, but he could have been testing how tight Steph and Cindy really were, to see if there was an opening for a spare vote if necessary. I took Rafe’s inter-fessional not as, “Maybe I, Rafe, think I am not playing this game hard enough,” but as, “Maybe other people think I am not playing this game hard enough.” Although, that might have been stupid, because he is already a known threat. So I don’t know. I think I might be a bit blinded by the Phenomenal Cosmic Powers of the Pearly Whites. That man has the most beautiful teeth!

I will say this much: Careful what you wish for when you disrespect the Car Curse. You may want to break it, but others might have other plans.

I saw it too.

During the previews, when Jeff says something about the 15th person being voted out, you can clearly see that Rafe is wearing the immunity necklace.

I also TiVo so I played that part in slow motion so I could see the group.

How about a hint? I’ve got mine Tivo’d and when Jeff turned over the last vote, I ran it over and over in slow-motion. There was not one bit of reaction from any of the survivors.

Or maybe next time I’ll just preview. :smack:

Eh. It’s happened to the best of us. Even me.

Okay, what gave with Steph voting for Cindy, too? Not only did we not see Rafe, Danni and Lydia deciding to vote out Cindy, but we never saw Steph deciding to turn on her last remaining tight ally. Although we got a hint when Lydia said, “I’m just going along with the tribe.” I realize they’re trying to confuse us, and maybe I’m too easily confused, but I honestly didn’t see Steph’s vote for Cindy coming. Although I did notice the glee with which Judd greeted Cindy’s ouster.

I’ll have to go back and rewatch the promo to see if I can spot that little detail, too. Good catch there, guys!

I think he was in glee because of her parting words, actually. Remember, Cindy was the only tribe member who DIDN’T vote for him last week. I think she said something about “thinking of you guys while I’m watching the stars through my sun-roof…”

I should note that I would normally have more witty things to say about the episode, but I watched it in a sick-induced haze so I’m not really up to “witty” at the moment…

The curse of the car continues.

I like Rafe but I think he’s full of it when he said that he would have given the car away. I also wondered why he questioned his game strategy. He’s played remarkably well.

When did he become so friendly with Danni?

Why didn’t anyone consult with Lydia? Is she that ignored?

Rafe’s a whiny bitch, and I won’t be happy until they send his punk ass home. He couldn’t even get past the first stage of the challenge and he’s acting like he’s entitled to a car?

Interesting how the people would have given the car away were the ones not on the archaeology trip. The ones who would have kept it, were on the reward challenge.

Not so sure it’s the curse why they voted her off. but man, why not just shut the hell up about the new car. Get a clue, honey. They said it was because she was the best competitor, which may or may not be true. I think her and Steph are the toughest. It used to be Danni, but she’s such a stick these days that I think she’s losing strength. Didja see that side view of her? man, I could wrap my finger and forefinger around her. Rafe is just “one of the girls”, is that what Lydia said??

Like I noticed last week, Lydia has HUGE feet, and thus, just couldn’t stand on that narrow balance beam. No surprise there.

Yeah, Judd liked what Cindy said. “I’ll think about you guys when I look thru the sunroof of my new car.” Hey, at last that gives them something to whine about when they stand around the campfire after ‘tribal’ on sunday.

The sentiment is prevalent in the thread at TWoP, and I just don’t get it. I don’t think Rafe was upset because he didn’t get a car, but confused that anyone would choose to keep it in those circumstances. Maybe he’s a little naive, but I don’t think he feels entitled at all (Stephenie is hogging all the entitlement this season).

And Cindy was a fool to ignore the Curse Of The Car. Hey, I don’t believe it that stuff either, but it’s a simple fact that it doesn’t take much to break alliances at the end of the game. Just takes one person saying, “Well, at least she got a car,” and you’re hosed. If they ever make an instructional video on how to win Survivor this will be heavily featured in the “Don’t Do This” section.

I’m hoping for a Rafe and Danni final two, then it’s a coin toss cause I like 'em both. Stephenie has her work cut out for her at this point. I think she basically needs to convince “Lidia” that Rafe and Danni are inseperable now and force a tie. I think R&D will have an easier time convinicing Lydia that Stephenie has “won” enough and needs to go home.

Papa T. and I were both actually surprised that Cindy kept the car because we both thought the better strategic move would have been to give it up. That way you at least have four people who are more favorably inclined towards you on the jury, plus you’re not risking the car curse (which I also believe is of the “Well, at least he/she won a car” variety more than anything else). So we were both more surprised Cindy kept the car than anything else.

So I don’t think keeping the car is necessarily the smartest thing to do, and we didn’t find anything odd at all about Rafe feeling the same way.

What I don’t understand is why Cindy took Steph on the reward. Knowing they’re the last two in that alliance (since Steph unilaterally tossed “Lidia” out), why wouldn’t she take someone else just to avoid collusion amongst the three *not *in that alliance? Sometimes I’m amazed that people can get this far in the game without apparently grasping even basic concepts of strategy, #1 on this game of which is, don’t give 'em free rein to plot behind your back resentfully while you’re off enjoying your new car and a big meal!

That was the most air time I have ever seen given to someone actually considering the jury implications of voting someone off. Good for the producers. We had all wondered if these people ever thought about the consequences of their actions and the producers give us a look at Steph thoughtfully considering her options.

Then she goes against her reasoned anaylsis. Good call, Steph. Well, at least it saved favorites Rafe and Danni for one more day.

Also, I loved Judd’s fist pump when Cindy left talking trash about her car.

And so, the less anticipated, highly derivative RICH RANKINGS! (N or Y for Tribe (Nakum or Yaxha) and Last Week’s Ranking in Parentheses).

FORGOT TO FILE A 1040- I guess you couldn’t outwit everyone!

Jim,Morgan,Brianna, Brooke, Blake,Brian,Margaret,Amy,Brandon- For the duration of the season, the portion of the program where I make fun of these guys is on hiatus.

THE BOBBY JON LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD- The Jury deserves a special distinction from those in loser lodge.

(IN ORDER OF VOTING PREFERENCE)
Bobby Jon- (Y/Juror #1)- Danni, Rafe, Steph, Lydia
Jamie- (N/Juror #2)- Danni, Rafe, Steph, Lydia
Gary- (Y/Juror #3)- Danni, Rafe, Steph, Lyida
Judd- (N/Juror #4)- Steph, Danni, Rafe, Lydia
Cindy-- (N/Tom)- Lydia, Rafe, Steph, Danni

EATING BEEF JERKY- You’re still playing, but you’re praying for a tribe scramble!

You don’t get to the final four eating beef jerky…unless you buy it at an auction…

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A MERGE?-

Nada

HEY! LOOK AT HIS MOHAWK-You might make the merge, but you’re grimacing from the jury row!

Stephenie- (N/Mohawk)- Her crying when she won the immunity should have been a touching moment. But it just wasn’t there for me. If she makes the final two, she’ll be able to play the “Huge Target on My Back” card. Will it be enough? She’s burned some bridges. Either way, she better win immunity next time, because Lydia doesn’t like her.

LOOKING FOR A BIG TOM TO ENGLISH DICTIONARY- Big Tom has spent more combined days on the show than anyone. But he didn’t quite grab the brass ring.

Lydia- (N/Jerky)- She’s going to the final two. We all know it. So I’ll move her up. But she is not winning the million dollars even with a bitterly divided jury. If she wins, I may not watch the show anymore!

ARE YOU A RAT OR A SNAKE?- Reserved for a MAXIMUM of two players. You have to be in the driver’s seat for this spot.

Danni- (Y/Rat)- Liar. If it is you, Lydia and Rafe in the final three, you’d slit Rafe’s throat in a second.
Rafe- (N/Rat)- I think Rafe is going to win. I may be pulling for Danni a tad more, but a Rafe outcome would be satisfying. The only advatnage Danni has over Rafe is that she has never led any of the ousters in a way that would seem like a betrayal. Rafe has a few times.

As for Cindy’s decision, I think in reality she realized she wasn’t winning the million dollars against any other remaining Survivor (who likes Cindy best?), so she might as well get a car.

I’m of mixed opinions about Cindy’s choice.

  1. Good call. As she said back during the feast-or-immunity challenge, she’s here to play, and compete, and win. She won the challenge and the others didn’t. Whether or not she wins the game depends on how well she plays the game.

unfortunately…

  1. Stupid call. Every other time, the winner of the car has not won. In most cases it wasn’t because they were cursed, it was because people said exactly what they said about Cindy: “Well, at least she’s got a car; that’s pretty good. It’s not like we’re sending her home with almost nothing…” and away she goes. Game over.

So, she got a car, some cash, and three days at the loser lodge. She probably came out better on points than whoever goes home at 4th place, or maybe even 3rd. On the other hand, she’s a loser now.

I almost wonder if Danni and Rafe have a kind of “arrangement,” where if one of them wins the final Immunity Challenge, they’ll vote the other one out to try to help the other win. I can see Danni and Rafe agreeing to something like that. They’d vote for each other to win the million.

Much as Danni has been my hate-bait all season, I do have to give her big ups on the game play. She’s smarter than I originally gave her credit for. Rafe is my favorite and he has been all season (although I liked Gary an awful lot, too, the big lug), but I could be satisfied with a Danni win, too.

I could have sworn I heard Rafe say last night that he and Danni had a final two agreement.

Danni said that she would take him to the final two and let the jury decide. Rafe seemed to agree.

Rafe may keep his word. Danni would not.

Rafe should be consoled by the fact that he helped give Cindy a car. Announcing his inexplicable altruistic intentions was a bit distasteful, at least to me. Don’t say; just do.
