Survivor: PI - 9/18/03 (Premier) - Probable spoilers

I think Osten is going to be really sorry he traded all his clothes for supplies. Isn’t it going to get chilly at night? And he has no protection from the sun at all.

If I’d been one of the girls in a dress (like Nicole, even though she’s gone), I would have traded my strapless dress for shorts and a t-shirt. No sense being uncomfortable, and Jeff didn’t say they couldn’t. That was my first thought as they were running around trying to trade stuff… get rid of the strapless dress!

Yeah, the whole season is in the can. And they usually have immunity and luxery challenges. I don’t see why you couldn’t vote for yourself. But why go through all of the trouble to get on the show just to vote yourself out of a chance to win a million dollars?

While I’ve caught episodes here and there over the last few years (my sister, who lives with me, has watched pretty much every episode of every season), this will be the first time I’m watching an entire season since Australia. And I’m sure I’ll be watching this season. Rupert got me right away with the shoe stealing.

I do think that Morgan deserved the loss of their shoes. "Oh look! Here’s the team we’re playing against! We’ll be competing against them for everything from luxery items to losing team members. But you know, the big hairy guy looks trustworthy. Why don’t I just leave all of our stuff right beside him. I mean, it’s not like he’d take anything without asking, right? Right?? Um… " Sometimes stupidity has a price.

I felt a little bit bad for Lilly, although I would feel even more bad if she wasn’t wearing that uniform. Grrr. But having spent a couple of years at college, and feeling out of place as probably the OLDEST PERSON ALIVE! Well, I can relate.

It’s already shaping up to be an interesting season.

I can’t believe Osten didnt try to rig a belt. Cut a small hole in each side of the boxers, slip a rope through. Voila, belt.

Is Lily the token “old person” this year? She doesn’t seem that old. What is she, about 50 or so? Everyone else seems to be younger. I don’t remember anyone much older, as in previous years where they have someone around 60 or 70.

I could be forgetting someone, though. I spent most of last night just holding my breath that the electricity wouldn’t go out.

One other piece of info you might want to have is that, at some point, they will merge together into one tribe. At that time, immunity will switch from being for a tribe to being for an individual. Even the symbol will change from an idol to a necklace. And the winner of it will be allowed to trade it away if they find it to their advantage.

And the first two who answered you were right: you can’t vote for yourself.

If my shorts had been falling down for 2 days, I think I’d be able to come up with something. He could’ve improvised a belt, or cut off the waistband and tied a knot at the side like a sarong.

I’m not as crazy about Rupert as everybody else seems to be. If you knew somebody in real life that acted like him, you wouldn’t find him so endearing. But he’s far from my least favorite.

So far, I like Sandra and Trish the best.

He is a hottie and that is not smugness that is confidence!

Tanya, from Survivor: Thailand was the second person voted out of that game, but the first person voted out of her tribe.

Jessie from Survivor: Africa was second to be voted off as well from her tribe.

Damn!

There is a site that gives (sometimes funny) blow by blow recaps ot TV shows, like Survivor, CSI etc. Anyone?

Yeah, I like Trish. She’s a hometown girl (she’s from Annapolis; I’m in Baltimore), and from her profile at the CBS website, we seem to have a lot in common. We’re close in age and even like the same beer… Corona with lime.

That’s www.televisionwithoutpity.com . It’ll be up in a few days.

Tanya & Jessie were voted out after becoming being violently ill, so they had a good excuse for going so soon.

I guess Nicole has the added distinction of being the first healthy hottie to be kicked out so soon! Definitely a surprise to see her gone!

annieclaus, as others have said, the contestants thought they were going out for a publicity shoot, not to start the game. That’s why lawyer-guy was in an Armani suit.

Biggirl, yes, the whole show is in the can and you are seeing what the producers have decided are the best bits to show. The only thing the contestants don’t know yet (and won’t know until we know when it’s aired) is who won the million dollars. They each know who the final two were and who they voted for, but the votes will be revealed on live television in the final episode.

No, you cannot vote for yourself to get booted. It’s expressly against the rules. That’s why at the end, when there are only 3 contestants left, the one who wins immunity gets to pick who goes with them to the final 2. The other two can’t vote for the immunity-holder and they can’t vote for themselves, so they have to vote for each other, thereby cancelling each other’s votes out. That leaves only the vote of the immunity-holder as relevant.

My impressions of the show have been echoed here already, but let me just put in another vote for how hard Rupert Rocks! I LOVED when he stole the other team’s stuff. He should have stolen their boat and tennis shoes, forcing them to waste time going through the village trying to find them and trading in all their newly acquired stuff for their necessities. Now that would’ve been rich!

About the only thing I haven’t seen anyone mention yet that I thought was awesome was what Jon was doing during the challenge… Whenever he was taking up the rear, he was throwing things, like big logs, into the path of the Morgan team. Very, very smart move.

Jeez, I could have SWORN I’d already hit page 2. Sorry to have been so repetitive.

Shayna, I also noticed Jon throwing things back in Morgan’s path…I think it was mainly during the segment where Drake was in the lead and had to clear the section of the course that was covered with boulders and logs. I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I don’t understand why both teams were on the same course, as it gave Morgan an advantage since Drake did the cleaning up for them. It looks like Jon did his best to replace some of the stuff so Morgan couldn’t take total advantage.

I’m not sure Rupert would have been so cruel as to sell the other team’s sneakers, but even if he was that cruel, I don’t think he had the opportunity. Pretty much everyone on both teams stopped as soon as they hit land and put their sneakers on. That’s why the lifeboat thing had the fancy shoes in it.

Ummmm…Jesse Camacho. One of the best looking women ever to appear on the show and she got voted off in the second episode. The fact that she has at least two seperate fansites and has appeared in several magazines despite her fifteen minutes of fame only lasted five minutes indicates I’m not her only fan. I’m definitely hoping Burnett brings her back for the all-star edition.

The personal property was pretty useless, as far as I could see, for surviving on an island. And they were in the game! And it’s a pirate theme! Perfectly acceptable, I say. Arrrr!

There was at least one pair of good sneakers left in the Morgan boat that Rupert picked up and then put back down and only took the dress shoes. Mighty nice of him, if you ask me – I think whoever left their good shoes in the hands of their opponent deserved to have them traded!!

I still have to read this thread, but since I just watched it from a tape I made, I’ll post my thoughts now:

I don’t really think I’m going to care for this season. The tropical setting thing is tired. Thailand, Amazon, Pearl Island - c’mon. enough with the jungle stuff. What about Survivor: Sahara or Survivor: Patagonia?

Anyway, these people seem shallow and jaded to me.

I do not like Tijuana - she is bossy and fussy and loud. Ick. And not very bright, rounding up a posse to evict Nicole on the basis of what she perceived as a personal slight. She is not going to make it through if she continues taking all these things so personal. And what is with these people saying, Oh, we couldn’t trust Nicole after that? Uh, Hello?, you can’t trust ANYONE on these reality shows. So foolish to vote out someone strong and smart on the basis of what someone like Tijuana says.

I do not like her puppy dog, Osten. He seems smart and he’s attractive, but he’s also too fussy and all over the map. Then again, maybe they need someone like that. And he’s fun, what with stripping at the slightest motivation.

I do not like Ryan S. so much. He is intelligent - with his remark about “we should have spent all the money in the village rather than keep some left over”, but he seems defeatist, and rather than try to ally himself with some stronger players, he allies himself with a weak player like Lilly.

Darrah? Who’s that? Was she the one they interviewed in the grass? It’s hard to say what to think about her yet.

I don’t really like Lillian so much. She’s too “I’m going to tell teacher on you.” She should have kept her mouth shut about Nicole’s approach to her about Tijuana. BTW, Lillian is the one not to trust, seems to me.

Andrew is a little slimy, but he seems like a fair leader. Time will tell.

Sandra, the Spanish-speaking one, is vulgar, but resourceful and thoughtful, so I guess I like her. I agreed with her remark about the cocoanut milk, that the leaders didn’t share it with her.

Christa is a big airhead, but she also seems likeable at this point.

I did not like Rupert’s stealing the other team’s shoes - game or no game, you don’t do that. That’s foul playing.

I LIKE Michelle. Such a pretty, sweet, smart girl, I hope she goes far.

Jon gets on my nerves, with that hyena-laugh. Ugh.

Shawn and Burton are trying too hard. Let’s wait and see what happens.
