Survivor rule about talking after tribal council?

Does anyone know if there is a rule that the the survivors can’t talk on their journey back to the camp after tribal council? I figure there must be such a rule because in every episode that shows them returning, they get to the camp and then say things like “Well, that sucked.” or “Wow, who voted for Jesse?” as if they had not spoken up to that point.

My guess is that they forbid any conversation because these comments might be crucial to storytelling but would be hard to capture as the people are walking through a dark jungle. So they get back to camp and finally can comment on what happened.

Anyone know for sure if that’s the case?

Okay, so watch for it in tonight’s episode and you’ll see what I mean.

For most of the seasons, they haven’t actually walked or rowed all the way to and from Tribal Council, and instead were carried on a boat. For this to be filmed would throw off the illusion that they’re walking or rowing all the way, so they don’t film it, so I’m guessing they hold off on discussions until they get back to camp.

Plus, I think you’re right about another point; as we learned last season with Terry the jerk bitching at Cirie for leaving her torch out in the open, even if you’re carrying a torch, it’s freaking dark out in the jungle at night and they might want to keep the conversation at a minimum.

On a related question, what’s the deal about the conversations before Tribal Council? The show has often shown an alliance where everybody decides to vote off one person. What do they tell that guy? I mean if I were on the show and we had just lost an immunity challenge and I went around asking everybody back at camp who we were voting off that night and nobody would tell me, I’d be getting a little worried. Aren’t the other players worried he’ll figure out he’s going and either sabotage the vote or the camp? Is it a normal (albeit unbroadcast) practice to throw the doomed player a false scent to keep him happy?

Yes.

… and apparently they waited until morning to have the conversation this time. That’s weird.

The bit about not telling somebody he’s about to be blindsided would be the big advantage to having an alliance and planning ahead: if you’re going to screw your buddy, just tell him when you get back from immunity, “Okay, we’re voting off Billy Joe, right?” and then don’t talk to him again. He spends his last day on the island thinking he’s solid, and instead, he’s going to be sleeping in a bed with sheets that night…

Yes. That way the doomed person won’t try to scrape up a new deal to save himself - he doesn’t think he needs to. It’s often broadcast as well. One winner a few years back (Chris ?), was the only male in a tribe with 6 or more females. He was the master of putting together a new alliance before each council to vote off someone else, but also convincing the target she wasn’t going home that night, so she wouldn’t pull the “let’s all pull together girls and vote off the only guy!” vote that was his greatest threat.

Then who gets picked as the plausible person to be voted off. Let’s say we’re all part of an alliance and we’ve voted out all the outsiders. One of the members of the alliance is going to have to go. Ethilrist, Mama Tiger, muldoonthief, and myself get together and all agree we’re going to vote off Dingbang. But we don’t want Dingbang to know this.

Ethilrist: I know, we’ll all go back to camp and tell Dingbang we’re going to vote out Little Nemo.
Little Nemo: Excuse me?
Mama Tiger: Don’t worry. We’re not really going to vote you out.
Little Nemo: How do I know that? Maybe you’ve all already made a plan with Dingbang and this is all a ploy to keep me in the dark.
Ethilrist: Well, how about we tell Dingbang we’re voting out muldoonthief?
Muldoonthief: Why me?
Little Nemo: That’s a good question, muldy. It’s pretty obvious these two are already thinking about who they’re going to vote out next time. I think you and I need to go have a talk with Dingbang.

If you’ve ever watched any of the “Behind the Scenes” shows, you’ll know that the producers will sometimes ask the contestants to re-create conversations so that they can get it on film. I imagine that there is conversation after the vote but it would be logistically difficult to get it filmed. So they reiterate their comments once they are back in camp.
