Survivor Season 30 (spoilers)

Rodney is the love-to-hate villain for the season. It’s so satisfying when they go down.

Throwing challenges sometimes works out and sometimes doesn’t. Ozzy threw a challenge his first season, and it didn’t hurt him any. Jamie and PG threw a challenge in China to get rid of someone after a tribe swap. It worked fine. But sometimes it blows up in the person’s face, and that is always fun and that’s the times that people remember.

I don’t like how Jeff inserted himself in the game with his questioning of Sierra at Tribal Council. He seemed to be convincing her to stay with her original tribe.

Is no one looking for the HII anymore? Are there not any more clues?

I know that Carolyn found the one from Joaquin’s tribe but believe that the other one is still out there.

Jenn found the HII on the red tribe camp when they killed the chicken after winning reward challenge. Blue Tribe Camp HII is apparently still hidden.

Strange Immunity challenge. They only went 5 rounds when they had 6 different players available on each tribe. Essentially Blue tribe sat two players and Red tribe sat one.

Weather Warnings updates made me miss about 5 minutes of the episode, after reward challenge and before Immunity Challenge. Who else besides Mike was throwing the challenge? Kelly the state trooper should have better recollection skills than what she showed.

except he was not the boot. Joaquin was the boot.

Oops. Sorry. My mistake. Thanks for the correction.

The look on Muscle Meathead’s face at TC was priceless. And whoever predicted that he was going to ape-shit afterwards was right on. He’s a lose cannon, for sure. I’m routing for Kelly, as of now. She’s seems to be about the only sane, sensible one there. Maybe Joe, too.

Maybe it’s different under pressure, but I can’t see why people constantly let Jeff “trick” them into saying stupid things at TC. I’d have a pat response like “I don’t know, Jeff. At this point anything is possible.” -or- “This is a crazy game, Jeff. You never know what’s going to happen.” for anytime he was egging me on to betray anything I might be thinking or doing.

TC takes a while (editing!), and they are tired, hungry and under pressure, so yeah, things are gonna slip out.

It probably won’t happen, but I am rooting for Carolyn to win it all.

That would be like refusing to talk, and for a game show that depends on human drama for a show, the producers wouldn’t like that at all. In fact, I will bet the contract includes a stipulation that you have to answer questions when asked, off camera or on. You can’t simply evade inquiry, it’s a part of the show. You have to talk, and lie.

I think you’re both thinking in the wrong terms.

This is indeed a game show, yes, but it’s a “personality” game show. The only people who go on these kinds of shows are inveterate fame whores. Fame whores aren’t the type of people who would keep information about what they’re thinking close to the vest. They are eager to shout it from the rooftops so everyone can revel in the glory that is them.

If you aren’t a fame whore the producers wouldn’t choose you to be on the show, and more to the point, you wouldn’t have tried to get on the show in the first place.

EDIT: For example, I agree with your thinking, John Mace, but I would never audition for or agree to be on Survivor. Would you?

Not all, by any means. I’d buy most, however.

The only reason to go on the show is to win a million dollars. You can become famous a lot faster and easier than trying to get on Survivor.

It might happen. Her mind is certainly tough enough. But she doesn’t actively build relationships. That is a very bad weakness. One good thing that may save her is that very few other people successfully build relationships.

The meathead is the only other person who really takes it seriously and he is terrible at doing it. It’s as if when he tries to build a relationship, it winds up as the kiss of death. He got “Joac” (pronounced “Wok”) voted out real fast just for the reason that he was trying to build a relationship with him.

I don’t see anyone with the winner mentality this season. Remember the cop from the previous season who won? He really had the winner mentality - probably even too much.

But there are a lot of people this season I really like and who could easily win. I would like to see Mike win. He’s a real good guy. I like several of the ladies too. The one lady (Jenn I think) who pals around with the law student is really funny and would make a great friend for anyone. Remember how she described the “race” between Max and Sherrise (sorry I can’t remember her name) to decide who was more annoying and who would get the boot? That was really funny. I like her a lot.

I like Sierra too. She is an incredible beauty. But at heart, she really is a nasty lady. Isn’t she? She said something like, “My tribe is full of people who are nowhere.” Or something like that. No wonder they don’t like her.

The postal worker said, “One way or another, you will remember me!” He was correct. But not in the way he expects. Poor guy has no idea how he comes across. He must spend all his time alone sorting the mail or something.

Oh boo, Will, you suck. As a fan of the red tribe, that betrayal sucked. On the plus side, it appears that Jenn/Joe/Hali already know he flipped; if they considered him part of the core three, Jenn would have played her idol for Hali.

As for targeting Kelly, during the episode I though it was stupid, they should have targeted Mike or Rodney. But then seeing the previews for next week I see the genius of voting Kelly out: Leave two many cooks in the kitchen so they turn on each other. As opposed to, say, voting out Rodney, which would accomplish nothing except unifying the remaining blues to rally around Mike. Without Kelly the core blue tribe is a tight twosome of Mike and Dan, Rodney who is bitter about Joaquin, and Sierra who hates all of them.

I was bummed to see white collar (other than the crazy chick) choose blue over red.

They had that totally sniffed out, not sure how.

This is turning out to be an outstanding season.

I don’t think White chose Blue over Red. It makes no sense. I think that everyone on White and Red knew that Jen had immunity and that Blue would vote Jen. White faked that they were with Blue knowing that Jen was safe and a Blue would go. White will pretend to be with Blue for one more week before the cover is blown at the next tribal. Then the Blues go one by one. Blue is too strong for White to have gone with them.

I am surprised with which Blue they chose. It should have been the Bible verse on the back guy. Everyone should know that he’s smart and not the dumbass that he portrays.

According to Wikipedia, Carolyn and Tyler voted for Jenn (going with Blue Collar) and Shirin voted for Kelly (going with the No Collar), so, they might well be split. Kinda surprised they chose Blue as well… I suppose I can understand why Carolyn would, personality-wise, so maybe she pushed Tyler since they’re tight. But as a player, I’d much rather side with the No Collars (aside from maybe being worried that they’d win the challenges, as Joe and Jenn are probably the strongest at the all the balance/endurance stuff they like to throw in the individual immunities).

I can’t get too upset at Kelly being the one to get the axe, though. Damn coppers.

I’m rooting for Jenn at this point, somewhat surprisingly (didn’t think I’d end up rooting for any No Collars when the season was announced). I’m still sorta half-heartedly rooting for Tyler, too, just because I used to watch him play at Cal, but he’s been very under the radar to the point where I think he just gets eliminated without doing much.

Merica is such a stupid tribe name. Why is everybody letting the meathead contingent (Mike and Roidney) run things?

I got called away in the second half. When I came back, they were counting out votes and and idol had been played. Can anyone recap for me wtf?
