Survivor Season 30 (spoilers)

I still can’t figure out why they chose Kelly as the next Blue to go. Anyone have any ideas?

2003 gamewinner vs USC!

Conversely, under-the-radar could mean he’s going a long way, and the editors don’t want to overplay him early.

The blues had decided that Joe was their next target. Then Joe won immunity. So the blues decided Jenn would be the target. They seemed to get Will on their side, but told him to vote for Hali, so they’d know if he was really backing them or not. Joe, Jenn, Hali (red)+ Shirin (white) decided to target Kelly. They thought Will was on their side too, but weren’t certain about him. Carolyn & Tyler (white) were the two votes apparently in play.

Then Jenn got a little paranoid, and decided they couldn’t count on Carolyn & Tyler, and told Hali the two of them should try to find out which of them the blues were targeting, so they could play the HII that Jenn had, but to that point hadn’t told anyone about.

At TC, basically everyone agreed that vote was going to show exactly where the lines in the merged tribe were drawn. Will had the best line - something like “Jeff, everything’s so crazy now that you may the one voted out!” Then they voted, and Jenn pulled out her HII. First vote was Hali (Will’s vote), which put Hali & Jenn into a panic. Next 7 votes were Jenn, which had Hali, Jenn, Joe, & Shirin celebrating, while everyone else was pretty upset. Then 3 votes for Kelly, which meant she was gone. Final unshown vote was for Kelly too.

And what’s her face was complaining about it to the camera, but she didnt speak up. Girl- use your words or shut up about it afterwards.

Yeah, why not Rodney the meathead?

Shirin .:smack:

Yeah, I think Ellis Dee has it right up above. It’s pretty obvious that the Blue Collar remnants are in a tense situation…you have Mike and Rodney both trying to run things. Everyone else was paired off with one or the other, but Kelly was the bridge, the only one who’s really completely Blue-Collar-aligned. She was the one holding everything together just by asserting that there was only one Blue Collar “camp”. Get rid of her and Mike and Rodney and their respective hangers-on end up tearing each other into little bits over the power.

Because Mike and Kelly are tight. Or, perhaps more to the point, Rodney and Mike kinda hate each other (and Sierra hates them all).

Surely Jen is smart enough to realize that even with her idol saving her, she is still severely outnumbered next tribal. She and her alliance have to hope that the Blue + Will + Carolyn/Tyler alliance starts fighting with each other before they pick off Joe/Hali/Jenn. Rodney blowing up against Mike is their prime hope at this point.

Or put yet another way, Jenn knows 100% that Kelly will never vote with them against Blue. But she doesn’t know that about Mike or Rodney.

“Merica” is indeed the dumbest tribe name in Survivor history. But I’m thinking this would be absolutely the last thing I’d want to get into an argument about. Why make somebody angry and put a potential target on your back over something that has no effect on the game whatsoever? Shirin had the right idea: Let the meatheads have their stupid name and save your energy for beating them when it counts.

Dumber than spelling your mother’s maiden name backwards? Or just making up a word that sounds like it might mean something in the native language?

Of all things to get upset about, the tribe name ranks pretty low on the totem pole.

Halfway through the episode right now.

‘Merica’? Really?

I find myself agreeing with the crazy woman everyone wants to shut up.

I was actually a bit disappointed they didn’t spell it 'MURICA!

Damn hick meatheads can’t even get the meme right (probably because for them, it’s not a sarcastic meme, it’s how they view reality).

Yes! Much much dumber.

Yeah, that was kind of a spot lesson in differing viewpoints. My immediate thought when he said it was “You really want to name your tribe for a joke?” But…he meant it! Good lord…between the Boston meathead and the Texas redneck, we got a lot of working-class conservatism going on this season.

How about when some asked if MM (muscle meathead) was smart, and Joe looked up and said: “What do you think?” I almost fell off my chair.

That was some blindsiding going on by a small minority at TC. The challenge was tough for the big guys. Survivor, like life, is not fair…

That was a great moment, and one I think had a lot to do with why the vote went against Kelly instead of Rodney. It’s just generally a better idea to vote out smarter people and keep the dummies around. You never know when a dumb person will do something dumb, while Kelly was pretty rock solid to not do anything crazy.

I think that Rodney is way smarter than he’s acting and that that’s on purpose.

Rodney is Einstein compared to Kelly. Kelly is almost too stupid to breathe.

She is not too stupid to breathe. She just needs to be reminded every minute or so.

I must have missed something early on then, because that’s not really the impression I have. I’m sure you’re right, I didn’t really pay much attention to the early part of the season.

Maybe smart/dumb is not really the distinction I’m talking about. More like “reliable” vs. “hotheaded”. Rodney seems like the kind of guy a good Survivor player could convince to do almost anything. Kelly will just do what her alliance tells her to do. For a minority alliance, having Rodney around is way better than having Kelly around.

ETA: Oh! Now I remember - the memory challenge. That was pretty dumb. I’m not sure it equates to “game dumb”, but yeah, dumb.
