Single best line last night. The look on his face was priceless.
Benjamin didn’t win, Sophie did.
A few weeks ago, Probst tweeted that is was going to call Coach “Benjamin” since he hated it so much.
Yes, I know. I was conjecturing how things would have played out if they had voted Sophie out instead of Cowboy. In that case, Ozzy probably would’ve won the final IC, and then gone on to win the $1M. But Ben wouldn’t have known that at the time.
Simply put, it was a mistake to vote out Cowboy. They should have voted out Sophie.
One thing that this season should have taught Burnett and company is that they need to tighten up their psych screens. Brandon should never have gotten on the show…the way he was treated by both tribes (but especially his own) was way too close to taking advantage of the emotionally unstable for my comfort. I think Brandon may be the tragic figure of this season…he was used so thoroughly and thoughtlessly I felt sorry for him by the end.
But that’s what Burnett and all reality show producers are going for. Including talent shows, where the talent competition isn’t enough. There has to be a story associated with the contestant, usually one of overcoming tragedy or great odds.
On the reunion show, Probst asked the two women who are now best friends if they would have met if it weren’t for their Survivor experience. They answered, sure, it’s possible they would have met under other circumstances. :smack: That answer surely disappointed Probst and Burnett as it disassociated their story from the show.
Jim, Brandon and Cochran voted for Coach. I can see Brandon voting for him, but not the other two so much.
Sophie beat Ozzy in an immunity challenge and in the one the counted. That in itself would have sealed my vote for her.
Another under-the-radar player wins a million.
This has GOT to be the death-knell for survivor. If everyone isn’t trying to hide in the corners next season, I’ll be shocked.
I don’t think Sophie was under the radar. But keep in mind that we are seeing the edited version of what happened-- what the producers want us to see.
She was a good pick to win, if Ozzie didn’t. She was smart and good at challenges. Her little moment where she was telling the other guy to help her out in the challenge was a little , but other than that, I’d say she played a good game.
The fundamental flaw with Survivor right now (besides redemption island, which is completely pointless and undermines the entire premise) is that the jury is too large and the strategy too static.
What I mean by that is that the jury is, barring a rather uneven merge, majority controlled by the tribe that loses. In this case it was 6 to 3 former Savaii. This makes it much more difficult to win the jury vote if you’re seen as the “leader” of the winning tribe. It also puts you in the strange situation where the jury member is voting for a person they basically don’t know at all. And, finally, it makes it impossible to even consider taking someone from the other tribe into your alliance.
All of these result in the optimum strategy being a 5-to-7-person alliance making the merge and sticking together no matter what. Which makes for boring TV. When you add in returning players, the likelihood of this strategy playing out is even higher.
Is it just me, or did Probst come off as kind of racist in that exchange? (Or at least elitist.) Like, Wow, you would have met a working class black person in real life? I never meet people like that!
At least that’s the way I read his reaction.
I thought it was racist, although I don’t consider Stacy “working class”. She is a Mortician. Certainly not a glamorous white collar job, but white collar none the less.
Their strategy going into that vote was “We have to beat Ozzy in the final challenge.” Rick said point blank that he couldn’t beat Ozzy, and Sophie had done the best at the challenges. It was pretty much a no-win scenario for Coach, but I would rather go up against Sophie than Ozzy at the final tribal.
The bigger mistake by Coach was voting out Brandon instead of Sophie after Brandon gave up immunity. Brandon or Rick were probably loyal enough soldiers to intentionally impede Ozzy in the final immunity challenge to keep him from winning (similarly to what Albert unintentionally did to Sophie).
Yeah, if I was heading to the final three, I would absolutely want Brandon to be one of the other contestants. My whole presentation to the jury would have been, “you can’t give this nutjob a million dollars, he’ll use it to blow up N.O.W. headquarters or something! Ladies and Gentlemen, I rest my case.”
Best prepare to be shocked, since the people who are in the already-filmed next season did not see this one ![]()
I felt sorry for Brandon. What a bunch of nutjobs he has for a family. Of course, given that he used to be in a gang, I guess he’s doing okay for himself. I just hope he stays away from his non-supportive family and tries to get some mental help.
Russell is a jerk and I hate how the show kisses his weaselly ass. I also hate, hate, hate how they use up what little time they have at the reunion shows to do things like interviewing the little girl or the asswipe in the audience. I actually want to hear from the contestants.
I like Sophie at first, then by the end I didn’t like her at all. I think it’s amusing that she cried about how hurtful Ozzie’s comments were to her. After all, Ozzie had played how many challenges in a row when the entire team was rooting for the other guy. Guess she never thought that that kind of behavior might be hurtful.
Ozzie’s comments were pretty bitter at the final tribal. Happily he seemed to redeem himself at the finale. Glad he won the $100k.
I think that Dawn came away the clear winner in terms of PR. She made her family proud.
Cochran came across as level headed and less Woody Allenish. That’s good.
Still hate Christine. She is so argumentative that she can’t even acknowledge the premise that she’d have never crossed paths with her new BFF were it not for Survivor. Seriously, chick, knock that enormous chip off your shoulder.
I like how Probst glossed over the fact that Whitney used to be married by saying she was already “in a relationship” when she met Keith. But I’m glad that both Keith and Whitney got over their sour grapes over Cochran’s move. They seemed genuinely happy.
I think it was hysterical that whoever it was that asked it deliberately asked Albert not to first give a compliment when answer the question at the final tribal…and he just couldn’t help himself. I also think it was funny that he didn’t receive a single vote (that I’m aware of), even though he was so confident going into the finale. He and Rick should have tried to knock off Coach. Duh.
Rick’s anger was a huge surprise. I honestly didn’t think the guy had any personality at all during the season. At least we know he can be angry.
I appreciate that Coach had enough self awareness to realize that he couldn’t juggle his competing strategies (“Warriors duke it out” vs. “Keep the family intact”) and still save face.
I didn’t watch all of it. What twist is in the next season?
Exactly.
Two tribes, one beach.
I’m glad of the three that remained Sophie won the money. She earned every dime during the final tribal council by comparing Coach to a young girl ![]()
The subtext of which: Coach was my bitch.
I also felt sad for Brendon.
It was quite evident that he had his tattoos modified to be a tribal pattern instead of saying “Loco”. I’m wondering if the “Hantz” tats got modified also.
