Munch - I don’t know what’s more astonishing…that “immaturity” and “laziness” are actually seen as detriments (again, how much did Tina ever do?), or that someone’s agreed with me on something.
Ferrous - I’ve seen Survivor 2 in its entirety, and an ambulance siren two feet away from me would not be more annoying than Jerri Manthey. Just trust me on this.
everyone - While “realignment” sounds like a bad idea and pretty much unworkable…gawd, I hope that whatever they do makes the next round of TCs a little less predictable. Theresa is pretty much doomed, and Frank is out whether or not he makes it to the merge. With such an incredibly deep rift within Samburu, is there even any point in winning immunity challenges anymore?
I still think, however, that they’re not necessarily doomed if they’re down 4-6 at the merge. Yes, it’d be easy for the Boran memebers to obliterate the opposing tribe, but if you’re, say, Kim or Tom, what exactly do you gain from this? If I were in that kind of position, I’d forget tribal allegiances right then and there (as far as I’m concerned, they no longer exist), do what I can to get on the good side of the Lucky 4th Question Four, maybe make an alliance with them, then try to outlast them in the homestretch. It’s a risky ploy, of course, but that’s often what separates a champ from a chump. And dammit, if I’m going down, I’m going down swinging.
I’m at a disadvantage; I watch the show on tape and it’s usually several days before I see each episode and by then you guys have already picked it apart.
Samburu does seem to heading for a meltdown. I could accept the fact that they were under stress from losing the immunity challange and this led to friction; but they seemed to be just as bad off after winning the reward challenge. These guys just don’t like each other. As Jeff pointed out, if they go into the merger with just the four Gen-X’ers they’ll be picked off by the six surviving Burons. But if Frank and/or Teresa make the merger, they’ll leap at the chance to form a new majority with the ex-Burons. Either way, the young Samburus seem screwed.
Speaking of which, I like the idea of a reshuffling of the contestants into two new tribes. It’s a twist I hadn’t considered before. It seems in keeping with the pre-show rumors, the preview teaser, and the fact that the producers like to confound the players every year with at least one unexpected change from previous years. If they do this, I’ll be very interested to see how it’s done; will they just reassign everyone or will the contestants have a voice in remaking the teams? And as someone else noted, what will happen to the water and spices already won?
Now for observations on individuals. I said before that Buron Kim is one immunity challenge away from leaving the show and this seems to be holding true; her only hope is for the Burons to make the merger with no immunity losses and then hope she can ally with a winning group. It’s tough to tell if Tom and Clarence have really bonded or if each of them are just keeping a close eye on the person they worry the most about. Ethan and Lex on the other hand seemed to have formed a genuine partnership and they’re both strong players; barring terrible luck they’ll probably make the final weeks. Kelly didn’t really have any impact on this week’s episode, but I have to say she’s looking very good for someone who’s spend a couple of weeks in the wild. Lindsay seems to be cracking under the pressure; maybe she’ll have some kind of breakdown and voluntarily leave the show. Silas is going to be hurt by the obviousness of his manuevers; his “plan” to have everyone vote for Lindsay was a bad move. He was asking everyone else to do something for him and seemed surprised when they pointed out there was no reason for anyone else to do him any favors. It’s hard to say if Frank or Teresa will be the next o go if Samburu loses another immunity; Teresa seems to be more liked by the clique but they seem to realize Frank is doing more work than anyone else in the camp (and avoiding work seems to be a major concern with them). Maybe Frank and Teresa could break up the Gang of Four by pointing out that if they vote both of them off, they’ll have to actually start doing their own chores around the camp. As for Brandon and Samburu Kim, they seemed to be competing for the Amber position - “I have nothing to add to this conversation, just tell me who to vote for.”
If this is what happens (they get picked off by the Borans after the merge; either with 4-6 or 5-5, with whichever oldster is left jumping in alliance with the Borans) I would love to know that they (Samburus) are thinking now, as they watch at home.
“Boy, were we stupid to do that!”
Is hindsight 20/20?
I really think they will reshuffle the teams this week. This will completley change everyone’s ideas about what who will be voted off next and what will happen after the merge.
Lets not forget that Silas and Lindsy have more votes against them now then anyone else (except maybe Clarence?). If the teams get changed around now their heads are on the chopping block. They would be easy choices to vote against if it looks like it is going to be close. Don’t think that Frank won’t tell his new team that Silas and/or Lindsy need to go fast.
My guess as far as how they will resuffle is that there will be some sort of contest to determine who gets moved/who stays. That will make the water/spices thing more fair.
Certainly. For Frank and Teresa, it may be the only way they make it to the merge. At that point they can either a) join with the Borans against the remaining Samburus or b) hope to win lots of individual ICs.
For the Samburu Chill Town, they need to make it to the merge with as many members as possible then hope to a) either get Frank and Teresa back on their side or b) get a few Borans to join them. If they go into the merge at a disadvantage the remaining Borans will pick them off one at a time.
When the host of a game show starts questioning your strategy, you know you are doing something wrong.
Even if it were a cape buffalo in the referenced photo, handy: if you saw a picture of Siegfried or Roy hugging one of their pets, would you conclude that lions weren’t dangerous? A wild animal is not the same as a kept animal.
I wonder if Frank and Teresa plan on using their next two tribal mergers (if it comes to that) to vote for both Brandon and Kim. That certainly seems like the direction that they’re heading in. Going by what I’ve seen, if I were Frank/Teresa, and given a chance between any of the Necklace Gang or Boran winning Survivor, I’d choose Boran as well. The Necklace Gang haven’t even tried to be gracious in their victory (except for Silas - what the hell was with that knee thing?) and their short-sightedness is going to come back and bite them in the behind.
hey, what is it? be niiiiice… brandon’s not that bad - he’s comedy. every time he speaks, i start laughing. i love the guy for the absolutely ridiculous things he says. almost as good as goat farmer.
oh and re goat farmer - a prediction
and ya, i know coach silas looked ridiculous, but did it work? in the reward challenge they actually looked like they wanted to win. wtf? of course they bombed in the immunity… guess silas should have given them another pep talk… all he needed was a football helmet and it would have been complete, i tell ya.
What if the remaining contestants were shown video of the current series exactly as it has been broadcast to the public? That might shatter some alliances and friendships.
If they do merge, I think it would only be fair to wipe the slate clean as far as number of votes against each. We know that Samburu is in desperate need of water. Perhaps Jeff will offer them water (or water jugs)…in exchange for two or three people moving to the other tribe.

The series was filmed earlier this year and the contestants are all home.

So? They could be shown a rough cut of the same scenes we have seen. I realize it was filmed earlier this year. Sorry for not expressing my thought correctly in the quoted post.

I think Linda was cool. All her Goddess and spirit sayings actually had sound foundations in common sense. You do lose the immunity if you are not a united team. If you don’t respect mother africa you do succumb to the environment and so on. And when she went she behaved exactly in character. Affection for the allies, “play nicely” to all (which is good advice - see David B’s commentary on the excellent site quoted above) and a dignified exit.
The continuing awfulness of the Necklace gang is fascinating, like watching an accident happen. The innocence of their view of the game is appalling, and because of it, each of them is going to feel such pain when their moment of reckoning comes. “But you were my friends!”
Brandon. What a twerpy little queen! The most built-up muscles in his body are those which roll his eyes back in his head. I admit he’s kind of cute with that beard coming in (after 12 days!) but such a twink. And such a nasty manner when aroused. And to interrupt Jeff’s question with such an un-necessary allegiance statement was so sad. I will be hooting with glee when his alliance falls apart and he gets the boot. I predict an extremely malevolent comment to the camera at the end of that show!
And why do they have to sleep in so long, and then look like shit when they do wake up? I’m twice the age of any of those fit, healthy, vigorous kids and I look and move better in the morning than they do. They can’t be drinking alcohol. How late can they be staying up?
The most telling part of the episode for me was when the team that had bonded, and worked well together went on that walk and actually became part of the environment. That triumphant moment on the top of that peak contrasts sourly with the kids that haven’t even gained enough sense of the continent to know that you work early in the day, rest in the heat of the day, and that you do not need to work on your tan.
You may be able to tell, I am enjoying the show greatly. I holler and whoop and talk back to the TV set while it’s on. Good thing I live alone, huh?
I love the idea of having commentary from the players as they watch the show. I’d pay money for a video or DVD version where they played the shows out to the contestants and recorded what they said as they watched. We could hear the details of their plotting, what they really thought about each other, their rebuttals to what was being shown on camera, and what they say when they see what their peers were saying and doing behind their backs.
I watch Survivor with my sister and my boyfriend and we all point at the screen and yell, “Think you’re so tough now Lindsey? Huh? Huh?” It is most joyous fun.
What to do this week with my Survivor Dopes picks?*
Will they split into three tribes? Buzz all over the net seems to favor this option, but I think it will be something like a swap of one to three members of each tribe. No cite, just a feeling.
That really throws a wrench into all my “pick’em logic” this week.
Damn these people for making me think about this show so much!
Btw, I like Lex. I hope I have not marked him for immediate death by that little proclamation
*Thanks to the powers-that-be for that big fat softball they threw us last week. Somehow I think that will be the last one we get for a while.
