It’s Stacey who sued, Lisa. The suit appears to be in the middle of discovery right now, but at least one media outlet says she doesn’t have much of a chance. Check out http://www.thestingray.net for a bunch of stories on the suit, lined up on the lower right of the main page.
Hard to call this one. I agree that the 4 remaining members of original Samburu are in bad, bad shape, but I can see one of them maybe making it for a good while (probably not final four) as the Borans set themselves up for a run at the money. I’m thinking Lex and Ethan are locks for the final four, and Frank is also a good bet. But this is a real hard one to predict right now, since most of the remaining people seem to get along fairly well.
First off, congrats to Sunshine for taking the lead in the Survivor Dopes Pick’em!!! Bold move to put so many points on Lindsey. I thought she was going, but as always, I hedged my bets. Good job. And congrats to everyone else who moved up.
Judging from the last two “parting words” interviews (Lindsey and Silas) does anyone else think this is the most deluded bunch of Survivors we’ve seen yet? Silas thought he was ejected because he was a threat (not because he was a transparent weasel) and Lindsey hated the backstabbing and manipulation (excuse me, but I thought all that was her middle name).
What will happen this week? Merge or no merge? A day or so ago, I went to Yahoo to make my picks. I’m not sure who will go, but I had a good idea about which tribe would win Immunity. Hit the drop-down box and got not Boran and Samburu, but a list of individual names?!? Look at it today and that box is entirely gone. No 5+ bonus for Immunity.
The three tribes rumor will play out along with the “split”. Vote one more out this ep and them break into three tribes.
We’ll find out what happens this week and then we get treated to a clip show on the 29th. Grrrrr.
Damfino what’s going on.
And I’ll admit that the Survivor Sucks boards are among the ones that I lurk. Yeah, people get their ya-yas by making up stuff, but the spoiler warriors there usually make quick work of them.
I’m usually one of the last to post but it appears this week I’ll be the first. Nothing like a quiet night at work to catch up on my TV watching.
One thing I noticed this week (which I had missed last week) was that all the contestants are still grouped by their original tribes in the show’s opening. Personally, I’ve been surprised by how strong the bonds of the original tribes have been.
Obviously the merger not only went through as scheduled but did so with minimal fanfare. Maybe I missed it, but did we see Samburu being told the merger was questionable? Buron was told at their tribal council but the Samburus this week also were questioning whether the merger would occur. Now we’ll have to see if the producers plan any further surprises or will let the show run out on the traditional schedule.
I overanalyzed this week’s vote. I figured Frank was safe because he was portrayed as the designated target. My original guess was Clarence because I figured the other contestants would be worried about his abilities in the challenges. But then a combination of his appearing to be the target (I thought showing Lex’s speech was intended to throw viewers off) and the fact that I thought the Buron alliance would hold led me to suspect an ex-Samburu would get the boot. Brandon had been prominently featured this week, so I guessed he was going to go.
Some people were asking why Kim didn’t just shout out that Lindsey had votes. One reason, as mentioned, was that this would have been a violation of the rules. Another is that she may have intended her message just for Kelly. Don’t forget that before the swap, Kim and Kelly were worrying that the four Buron men were planning on allying against them. Not knowing what was going on in the Samburu camp, Kim had to consider that Kelly may have broke off with Tom and Lex and allied with Lindsey or someone else.
One more thought. Frank may benefit at this point from the Keith Famie factor. Not being personally popular, he’ll be every other contestant’s first choice to go into the final two with. After seeing Colby blow it last year by picking Tina, this will be especially true.
I think the reason they showed Lex’s speech to Clarence was to set up Clarence’s speech at the voting booth. Whatever motive he had, the result was drawing Clarence’s vote. I find it interesting how the contestents are consciously trying to accumulate votes for those they dislike in anticipation of tie-breakers. I don’t remember this ever happening before.
Thought it was, by far, the dullest “Survivor” I’ve ever seen. Clarence was once again betrayed by his stomach. I really think he would have continued hanging on except for the food tempting him. In retrospect, he should have kept hanging on.
Very strange. Everyone was threatened by Clarence’s physical advantage in post-merge immunity challenges–and in the first of which, the fears seem to be borne out, as he gets down to the last 2 in endurance. But then he offers Theresa the rock-paper-scissors, instead of just outlasting her. Maybe it was chivalry; maybe he overestimated his position; but boy, was that a mistake.
Theresa singing “Tomorrow” was great. One of the few moments of genuine likability displayed by any of these guys (although Tom is growing on me).
What is up with Kelly’s bitching about Lex, all of a sudden?
Not much to say about this one. Next week might be better since, as the preview showed, Lex tries to find out who “betrayed” him. He did look a bit urinated.
First off, Colby did not “screw up”. All right? He had a deal with Tina to the very end. Maybe if Ogakor had lost one more immunity challenge, he would have considered giving her the boot, but definitely not that late in the game. Tina made a good “alliance” and it helped her in the end. These things happen, all right? All right?
Back to the present…I’m not going to judge Clarence. He made a choice; that’s all there is to it. While I think his threat in immunity challenges was overplayed, I doubt that he would have made it to the end anyway. I dunno, between opening the can of beans and not really getting along with some of the tribemates, he just didn’t seem to have what it took.
And everybody, don’t kid yourselves, Frank is still on the hot seat. I actually thought he might have been voted out. Sure, he doesn’t seem all that appealing, but neither was Richard. It’s not going to save him. Remember too that he’s very much a loner, which is what absolutely destroyed Kel in the last Survivor. Frank’s held his own (and gotten a little lucky), but I don’t see him lasting to the final showdown.
Theresa is already evoking memories of Tina, so she could be in trouble.
Tom is just 1) ornery and 2) prone to holding grudges, which makes him extremely dangerous in the voting, so I doubt he’ll last much longer.
Besides that, it’s still anyone’s game. At this point I can’t even pick a strong contender. It’s that close.
I think you’re wrong… it’s a game and at the end, they were there to win - and choosing Keith was his way to win. … she played him like an expensive violin and he was a stupid hick and fell for it - what a loser!
Clarence was another dope - he knew he needed to win and didn’t have the mental toughness to win … he was always talking about his hunger or this or that - he was weak and used his deal with Teresa as a way out ot get soem dinner
They do a real good job at editing - I doubt Frank is half as much of a mental case as they show him off to be … he seemed to do fine when the dentist and mother Africa were there ??
Saying Colby screwed up is easy to do in hindsight. He disliked Keith, and didn’t want him to have any chance at the money. He liked Tina, and probably believed he could beat her. It was a calculated risk, one that didn’t pay off. Also, it’s hard to fault someone for being true to his word.
But all this ignores the fact that he shouldn’t have been making that choice in the first place. According to the rules Jeff gave at the beginning of the the slingshot contest, the last person with an intact plate would be the winner. That person was Elizabeth. She had an intact plate, Colby’s was chipped. Yet they continued, Colby broke Betsy’s plate, and she was voted off. Had the producers played by the rules they set, Elizabeth would have been around at the end, which would have A: left out Colby or B: left Colby with a choice of Elizabeth or Tina. In A, he leaves earlier, in B, he’s unlikely to beat either of the ladies.
Colby was also given a gift in the maze contest, in which he removed both carabiners at the same time, which should have disqualified him, but didn’t.
I don’t see any clear front runners in the group that’s left, but then I wouldn’t have picked Richard or Tina with nine left, either.
There’s no point arguing over last year’s show and the semantics of whether Colby’s decision qualified as a “screw up”. But I don’t see anyone denying that Colby would have won if he’d been in the final two with Keith instead of Tina, and that was the point I was making. This year’s contestants saw that as well and they’ll be considering who will be the person least likely to get more votes than they do. If you were in the final two on the show, which of the nine current contestants would you feel most confident you could be more popular than?
I’m not saying it’s a done deal. Luck is still a factor. Sometimes, as we have seen, contestants make moves that aren’t in their best long term interest. And as we’ve all noted, we see such a small portion of what’s actually going on, it’s easy to misread the situation. But I still feel that Frank’s “lone wolf” mentality could be as much an asset than a liability.
Well, I thought Lex was a lock, too, but I think he could be seriously screwing himself with this “glorious leader” bit. He should be playing a lot more low-key. He’s already got Kelly annoyed at him, and next week’s “witch-hunt” will only add people to the list. (Richard was the clear leader of the S1 group, but he never acted like it where anyone could see.)
Telling Clarence he was going was just a stupid, stupid move.
I’ve lost track. Who of the remaining contestants has votes against them? Tom has three, Lex has two. Did anyone else pick up a grudge vote or two in the early weeks?
