Survivor Spoilers Thread (The Sequel)

I think Frank has one, but no one knows about it.

I think Colby did win where it really mattered - in real life.

Sure, winning the game is cool and all, but apparently half the money goes in taxes, and the rest can vanish awfully fast. Tina has said so, as you can read at David B’s newpage (as cited above - Reality Online).

But the incredible loss of privacy that the game brings, means that the real arena of winning is in real life. If you’ve lost anonymity, only to replace it with a bad reputation, you’ll be suffering as long as you live within reach of television.

So Colby’s warm rapport with Tina in the very final stages of last year’s game won him more, in respect and affection, than he lost in money. I bet he’s has more drinks bought for him by strangers, more welcoming looks from women on that basis, than if he had ditched Tina to triumph over Keith, and not allowed that gallant and warm side to be seen. So, in real life, he wins

I think few people regard Richard Hatch with warmth, not that he cares, but I’m sure even his icy self-sufficiency has been dented by the unwanted opinions of hundreds of watchers. No privacy, and disliked - a tough way to live.

Brandon has lost big. He’s a laughing stock, especially in the gay community (well, my branch of it anyway). Carl left with dignity, and has takn more of a poitive nature into real life than Lindsey.

It’s like any game. If you win and leave everyone else disliking you, you won’t be invited to play again so often. Then you have lost, through winning badly.

Great! They’re doing a fucking recap.
Color me impressed…

Well, that sucked the big one.

This wasn’t the show they advertised.

I really don’t know what the point is for doing stupid recaps like that in the middle of the season. Do they think we forgot? I just can’t believe it. I’m seriously pissed off at Mark Burnett right now.

I hate this.

Also pissed.

I was sitting here in the library studying for finals when I looked at my watch and realized it was 7:15.

I made a mad dash through the rain for my car to race home and catch the last half. And this is what I get for my efforts.

Damn.

I would guess the reason for the recap is to get more viewers into whats going on, as Friends was a repeat.

I knew this was gonna be a recap week, but it was a horrible recap. They were supposed to show new footage. I don’t think having a conversation about Clarence’s war paint important to what went on there, especially since he’s gone. Tell me something about someone who is left, get me excited about the upcoming weeks… What a loser show this year - however I won’t stop watching it!

Let’s see, we got some new footage. But why was this footage not shown in the first place? 'Cause it was slightly less exciting than synchronized scratching. The really good stuff (swearing, fighting, nudity) will never be shown (unless they do another DVD), but you can get some idea of what goes on by reading the RealityNewsOnline recaps of the “insider” footage.

I knew it was going to be a recap, I forget where I read it. But last week they didn’t say “next week” on Survivor, it was more like “next time” which was intentionally vague. I think they did it for two reasons. One, to get people who missed the first few weeks caught up, and two to extend the season out by a week. IIRC, for the last series they threw in a recap to get the last two eps inside a sweeps period.

And next week someone should start a new thread for the show. This current one is getting rather long.

Is next week going to be a new show? If anyone gets info - please post.
I taped it but stopped watching after about 20 minutes. The make-up and antlers bits were mildly amusing. When I saw it was a recap, I had high hopes that they might try to do some more foreshadowing, showing stuff about the remaining members. But then they spent too much time on ousted members Diane, Clarence, Lindsey, and lepermouth, even relying primarily on previously seen footage. Bah!

Hold the phone! There’s a DVD? Does it have Colleen naked?!?

I feel faint…

Bwahahah…Ostrich egg! With as much animal protein as 2 dozen chicken eggs.

If I were Lindsay I would have knocked Linda’s duff in the dirt, and then stepped on her neck. Hey, creepy mummy lady, listen up: if I don’t hug you back, don’t do it anymore! And quit squatting in front of me like He Who Kills!

Even Brandon was freaked out, and he’s witnessed unspeakable horrors. Is ‘cornbread dipped in buttermilk’ some kind of hot guy-on-guy action? Tom tried it once at his auntie’s but he never developed a hankerin’ for it.

What I liked: They revealed that Lex is a prick. They showed us Frank’s totally cool antler ritual.

Yeah, there’s a season one DVD and a season two DVD. But unfortunately I think all of the nudity was restricted to Richard’s hairy white ( )( ).

Well that was an interesting show. Lex freaks out and alienates everybody in sight except for Brandon, who jumps ship at the exact same time as somebody defects from the other side. I gotta think Lex isn’t going to last much longer after that dumb display of paranoia. I see him getting kicked out at about the same point as Jerri last time around–once the rest of his alliance can do it without exposing themselves to the other side. It’s also going to be interesting to see what happens with Ethan, who’s clearly established the position as winner of all challenges. He might end up being a target of opportunity as soon as he misses on an immunity challenge.

Still way too close to call.

Brandon was an idiot. He went from being a solid member of an alliance where he could have helped boot off most of the Boran, and then teamed up with Kim P. and Kelly to get rid of Frank – poof, he’s in the Final Four. Now he’s the fifth wheel on an alliance that won’t need him very much longer, and he’s shown his former tribemates how completely untrustworthy he is.

He had the potential to make a brilliant play, but he blew it. It’s like he knew he had to plot something, but just didn’t know the right thing to plot.

My guess is Lex will soon be toast. At some point (as hinted in the preview) it will become clear that Teresa not Kelly was the “culprit”. The other ex-Borans will feel guilty about backstabbing Kelly and, in the finest hypocritical tradition, will dump all the blame on Lex’s lap for what they all did. It’ll be their “gut” reaction.

I have to give Brandon credit; in my opinion he’s the best player on the show. He gets himself into a good position, and if things turn bad, he works out a new plan to get back on top. He may go all the way.

That said, I question this week’s move. Brandon was in the position of kingmaker; whichever way he went, he would be on the majority team and in a postion to decide who would be leaving in the next few weeks. On the ex-Samburu team he apparently has gotten along well with Young Kim, had reached a reaproachment with Teresa and Frank, and had Kelly as the outsider and fifth wheel. They could have ousted Lex this week, then picked off Ethan, Old Kim, and Tom. Then Brandon could have pointed out to Frank that he would have no chance competing against Teresa in the final pair. Teresa, Frank and Brandon could have picked off Kelly and Kim, then backstabbed Teresa to go to the final (assuming she wasn’t the one who got to decide).

Instead, Brandon has joined with the ex-Borans and earned the resentment of his four former team mates for doing so. He’s now the fifth wheel on his new team, so his postion there isn’t that secure. In the last two weeks the ex-Borans have shown they’ll toss out one of their own as long as they can maintain a majority after. Brandon will soon be expendable. In addition, even if he isn’t tossed overboard, Brandon’s new teammates are stronger competitors, both in challenges and popularity.

Now let’s start handicapping the final vote: I think Lex knows he won’t be getting Kelly’s vote unless Osama bin Laden joins the show. The question then is how bitter Kelly is against her other former teammates. If, for example, Old Kim and Teresa are the final pair, would Kelly choose Kim, who she was close to for most of the show, or Teresa, who stood by her when she was voted off?

Could Lex have made a bigger ass of himself on network television?

“Hey, Teresa. My gut says that there’s no way you could’ve cast that vote against me, even though just yesterday I was remarking about how odd it was that Clarence was trying to make some kind of deal with you. And what you guys would have to trade for ending the contest I don’t know, but it certainly couldn’t have been a promise not to vote for the person who lost immunity.”

“Hey, Kelly, I figure you have to have been the one who voted for me, because it couldn’t possibly be one of the four people I don’t have an alliance set up with and who had no real reason to kowtow to my voting desires. I also won’t actually come out and tell you that we’re voting for you, because I’m happy to be all ethical with unpopular Clarence, but not with a politically stronger potential rival. Too bad, so sad.”

“Hey, gut. We’re battin’ 1000 here!”

What a maroon.

And why the obsession, at this point, with everyone voting for one person anyway? I understand why people don’t want to collect votes for themselves, but it seems like a possible advantage to stick someone else with a stray vote or two for future use. Unified voting seems to be useful pre-merge, not post.

Damn. I wanted Kelly to win at this point, actually; she should’ve made her move against Lex earlier, or tried to enlist Kim J. She had nothing to lose doing talking to her, at the very least.

And Brandon. If “strategery” were still a punchline, he’d be the setup.

I don’t know if anybody else here gets Survivor Insider, but there was some huge stuff there this week. The biggest being that they cut part of what Brandon said while voting off Kelly. I don’t remember it word for word, but he basically admits its a ploy to vote off Kelly and get the tribes back to 4/4 and that he plans to rejoin Samburu to vote off Lex next time. This is why he mentions final FOUR in the speech you all saw. He admits that old Samburu MAY be pissed at him for doing this (so they don’t know and that is why they looked so upset).

I think this could play out very well for Brandon. Now old Samburu (if they rejoin Brandon) is in the driver’s seat. A four/four tie with Lex having 6 votes and Tom 3 votes. Old Samburu only has Frank with one vote (and for those of you wondering that vote was revealed at some point to everybody, because Kelly specifically mentions it in a different Insider clip)

Oh, and Kelly was probably going to betray Lex before he went apeshit, only a few votes down the road, not this early. Her hand was forced by Lex’s paranoia.

Oh, and apparently Tom has started to bond with Frank. Hmmm…
