She was always an attention whore, and always somewhat slutty. As a fortyish woman, she was passing the point of no return in terms of physical appeal. This was her last chance to command the kind of attention from men that she craved.
It’s a truism among mental health professionals that women get into sex trades like stripping and escorting because they have a background of being abused by men, sexually or in some other way. The power over men that stripping and escorting gives them, allows these women to turn the tables. Control those who had controlled them. With women athletes, it’s often a coach who takes advantage of them when they’re young.
There may have been other factors that reduced her inhibitions and increased her libido, factors common to many Olympic athletes.
Her public image will take a well deserved hit from this, but it’s not the end of her career as a local celebrity.
Well, there is the inevitable book and the talk show circuit. I’m sure she’s been contacted by Playboy. If she wants to she can start making a lot more than $600/hr.
Bullshit. Not all of them. That certainly may have been the case with her but you sure as hell don’t k ow for sure. I can think of a few other reasons why a woman would do that; to get money to support a drug habit or just for shopping or because they like the thrill of it.
Whether or not you give a damn about the legality of prostitution, the fact that mommy publicly admitted as much brings her family under scrutiny, which is problematic. Judgmental assholes or not, she didn’t have to admit jack or reveal her identity to her clients. It’s not like being gay. She wasn’t making some kind of noble stand for legalization of prostitution by owning up to her behavior. She was being dumb.
SHE made it other people’s business by her own actions and opened her family up to what she knew could not be good repercussions.
If, as suggested above, it’s about the notoriety and not the prostitution per se, that’s certainly her affair, but notoriety is, by definition, not something kept inside the family and judging her for bringing that upon her family is certainly valid.
The only reason she’s notorious is because prostitution is illegal, which absolutely warrants civil disobedience because it’s a bullshit law. Prostitution is not an immoral act. If she was going out to Las Vegas and making people feel good by selling massages and spa treatments, nobody would give the first flying fuck.

No, she’s notorious because she opened her mouth about committing an act she otherwise could have continued doing for longer. She wasn’t “caught” in any conventional sense. She deliberately let her real name slip.
How about substituting a different crime? Possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, for example. That’s illegal in most states (or was a few months back) but not particularly objectionable or immoral. But instead of keeping it quiet or getting caught at it, let’s say she ‘lets slip’ that she enjoys the occasional toke every now and again, partly for the illicit thrill of it. In fact, instead of enjoying this little pastime in one place, she travels to different cities to make it more exciting for her.
In this case, she’s not making some kind of principled stand and is not some kind of martyr on an altar of archaic laws. She’s just dumb and/or probably attention-seeking. Now, just substitute prostitution in for marijuana possession and she’s still just dumb and/or probably attention-seeking.
So what ? Both of my parents flew around the world for the sole purpose of getting paid for their work when my sister and I were growing up. Does that make them terrible parents ?

She was flying around as a part of the Rock and Roll Marathon series, just as the article stated. Some of her Vegas trips may have been solely for hooking, but the other locations were part of a business trip.
