System Mechanic 6 Problem

Yesterday I downloaded ( and paid for ) System Mechanic 6 . I have been using version 4 and 5 for years with no problems. This time I cannot open the program . Instead I get the message In order to finish System Mechanic installation or update the system must be restarted. Well I have restarted my computer several times but with no success. I have also downloaded the program twice more and re-installed it three times. Each time I have made sure I had deleted the program properly before re-installation or download. All this effort has made no difference. I still get the same message. This is a real pain because on my dial-up system it takes 45 minutes to download and I have also paid out $29.95 for the new program.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did you overcome it? I have emailed the manufacturers ( IOLO Technologies) about this problem but , as yet, have not received a reply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using start > run > regedit, search and remove for all references to the software (mechanic may be a good query). You could also have some antivirus software that is stopping it from placing a temporary item on your startup, but more likely it is remnants of other installations on your system that are causing the problem.

Thanks very much , the regedit procedure did the trick. After shutting down and restarting I could open up the program OK. The SDMB triumphs again!
