No sleeping outside here. It’s still in the 40s at night, and we’ll be lucky to see 60°F during the day. It stays light until 10 PM now and the sky (rarely sun) starts tapping on the window at 4:30 AM. I’ll stay under the covers in the house, thank you.
Morning! I love sleeping outside especially near the beach very soothing. Here in OK it is now officially hot and getting hotter with hot winds which make it hotter so no sleeping outside here.
I have no work laptop thanks to a virus so IT is reimaging it right now. Irk is irksome when working from your phone and all the data you need is encrypted on your work laptop. Le sigh
Blurf.
Very tiring weekend.
Mom always liked me best!
I have 5 different weather sites bookmarked. Their forecasted daily high temps have spanned +12 deg F! I was disappointed to discover weather underground’s forecasts are consistently inaccurate by being way too high, often by 8 deg F. Oh, well, at least they’re consistent!
What signals the change from spring to summer in our house is when we have to flip the switch on the ceiling fan so that the air is blown downwards. I’d love to have a screened porch to sleep in, but the bitey bugs are way too clever at defeating screen fabric.
I’d like to sleep outside but I really don’t like to be eaten alive by mosquitoes.
I picked up a spider yesterday! Voluntarily!! I’m gradually dealing with my fear and disgust of all things arach and it seems to be working.
I finally got a chance to go swimming and the improvement in my hip after only one hour was so significant that I forked over the $115 for the summer membership to the conference center. Holy crap that place is nice!! Part of the conference center was built into an old American Optical building and they’ve taken great pains to keep the eye theme going. The artwork all looks (to me, at least) like slices of eyeball (apparently no one else who sees it has ever dissected an eyeball. I’m curious to know what Soapy thought when she was here). The gym is called Focus Fitness, the lounge is called Shades, and I think there’s a restaurant called Visions.
Anyway, I was blown away by the fitness center. The pool is huge and there’s a hot tub too. The locker rooms have saunas and steam rooms (which I will probably never use due to my aversion to heat). They have two racquetball courts and a basketball court and the regular gym stuff. The price per month if you get a yearly membership is actually about $3 less than the membership at the gym we usually use but Focus isn’t 24 hours and our gym is. The guy working there said he keeps telling them they should go 24 but they don’t do it.
I took Sweetie there with one of my 3 free passes and he really likes it too. Unfortunately I got a bit too exuberant with my underwater hip stretching because I actually managed to hurt myself and now I’m limping again. :smack: But, Sweetie gave me some tips on how to swim and I improved greatly very quickly (prior to yesterday I could only swim under water or on my back)
Evening.
Parents came up to visit yesterday- the parents what own a little zoo, as I’m sure I mentioned before- stayed the night, as they were supposed to be collecting some birds from another small zoo maybe an hour and a half south of my house, which is about 6 hours drive south from theirs, so a bit far to do all in one day.
Was hilarious when they got here; my house is literally a few hundred meters/yards and only one turning away from the motorway, it should not be possible to get lost, but somehow, they manage it every time they come over. So, a bit after the time they were supposed to be getting there on sunday, I get a phone call from my mum saying they’re lost. It’s an awful line, it’s cracking up then cuts out- so I go stand by the window, where I normally get a better signal, and suddenly realise that that looks damn well like my parents’ car waiting at the lights just opposite, so I legged it outside, and yelled ‘MUM! YOU’RE NOT ACTUALLY LOST!’ over the road. The double take was fabulous
Anyway, had a nice visit, they took me and my housemate out for dinner, and then we both went down with them today to pick up the wee burdies. Got a free look round the zoo, and the owners there insisted on giving us all a free lunch at the cafe, which was really nice of them, seeing as it was a bit bleedin’ cheeky to show up with 4 people to pick up two little birds in the first place- clearly just in order to all get a free look round. I don’t think they exactly approved of me though; their daughter is going to take over the zoo, and they’re just starting to hand it over. I am definitely not taking over my parents’ one.
Anyway, was generally nice day, until we got home. Last night, one of my housemate’s pet mice was looking a bit… odd, so we took her to the vet this evening, as soon as we got back. Turned out she had a tumour, so now we only have two mice
The hazards of short-lived pets…
By the way, as regard today’s ‘topic’, I ain’t sleepin’ outside; this is England, I’d probably drown. I do regularly go camping in a waterproof tent, but except at the very height of summer, it’s freezing without a good sleeping bag.
I’m almost done with the scarf I’ve been trying to make since the beginning of the year. I had to put it aside for a couple of months while my brain figured out what I was doing wrong with it. I can’t find the pattern right now–it’s on Ravelry somewhere but there are eleventy million simple crochet one-skein scarves on there and I don’t remember which one I picked.
If I’m brave tonight I might try installing my sound card drivers myself. Frequent hard drive crashes make me afraid to touch this magic internet box without supervision.
Howdy all. You couldn’t sleep outside here, way too many mosquitoes!
Tomorrow I start physical therapy for my knee. Kinda looking forward to that, actually. I’m tired of this. I mean, it’s only been 5 months since I fell. (Ok, minus 4 days, but who’s counting?)
I just printed several crocheted fingerless glove patterns - off to try them out…
I agree the sky needs drapes. When I first moved in, I bought nice dark drapes for my east facing bedroom window. I’d leave just a little split in the middle so some light could get in. about a dozen years ago, I had to take them down because they’d gotten icky (between me not cleaning them since they were new, and all the dampness from rain and humidity (the a/c in the bedroom never worked right) and moldy. So instead of getting new ones, which I figured I’d get around to some day, I just threw a sheet over the rod. This worked fine. It was dense enough to keep most of the light out, but allowed just the right amount of light in.
On Maid Brigade’s first visit last month, they took it upon themselves to flip the sheet all the way up. Now this is okay because they opened the windows all the way (which I love) and cleaned up the whole dresser (which I paid for) but now, as soon as the sun peeks over the houses, Cat thinks it’s time for me to wake up, when by human clocks, I still have 90 minutes coming to me. So yeah, the sky needs drapes. and a remote.
Well, my poor sweetie won’t be home till Thursday. ugh.
I’m gonna go pout… and crochet. Stoopit work travel.
I’m late to the party today! Hi all! I’d love to sleep outside. I love tent camping too. Haven’t done it in ages… sigh.
I wish it would rain! I’m a little tired of dragging the hose around to water the garden. Although I’ve already gotten half a dozen cucumbers and three tomatoes, so I don’t think that’s bad for central Midwest. I don’t think I would want to sleep outside here – between the humidity and the mosquitos, it would be miserable. Although I have threatened to camp out to protect my tomatoes from the stupid coons.
My computer has sound again! Snoopydances
Howdy Y’all! Back from dindin with some friends. Normally we would’ve been at men’s night over to the church house but who could turn down an invite to a free dindin at the good Eyetalian place, right?
'Twas also a looooooooooong day at irk and I’s tahrd. Think I shall go lie upon the bed and watch teevee for a while. I must needs recuperate.
Laterz!
Yay for Spaz having sound on her computer again!
OMG, I just read a story online, I think it was on NBC4 website, about a rabid skunk in St. Mary’s county (MD). It appeared outside of a restaurant where folks were eating outdoors, so they went indoors. Unfortunately, skunk followed and bit a diner before they could corner the skunk and put a box on it - which made the skunk spray. P-U! Turns out the skunk was rabid, and was the 6th rabid animal in St. Mary’s county this year so far. So, FCM and Bobbbbio, please be careful of skunks and racoons - esp. if they might be in your attic!!!
Sorry for the awful picture there (LOL) but hey, it’s a public service, yeah. Geesh, that seriously freaked me out though. Please no skunks or raccoons!
should toucanna’s nickname be fruitloops? maybe loopy for short(er)
Remember Night Audit Lady? The one who almost died a couple of months ago? She came back to work last week (part-time for health reasons, obviously). And now she’s just left me a message that her asshole husband is kicking her out of the house at the end of the month. I’m encouraging her to get all legal on him because he deserves it. Behold I have become the black widow.
Okay screw it - no stealth about this brag.
I won a regional Emmy Award Saturday night, the first of my career, for a story about a drunk driver last year. I’s not that huge a deal, thousands are given out each year around the country, but it’s my first in 23 years of work and it was a lot of fun to see old friends at the event held at the Newseum in DC.
Tomorrow after a dr’s appt I will pick up my kids for a week of vacation together. Yesterday I finished moving out of the Spotsylvania house and the landlord has assumed control of the home - another chapter of my life is done.
Life is good, folks, life is good!
What on earth do you mean that it’s not a big deal?! It’s a huge deal! It’s totally awesome! Congratulations!
