Monday March 29th. Yay!
Update re: Tom Scud: I just learned that media workers were bumped up to 1b+ in Illinois and Cook County as of Monday. He is an editor and has been working remotely, but his employer has scheduled their giant annual conference for July, and they seem determined to actually go through with it (and it’s in FL, so the state is not likely to call it off). And if his employer is seriously considering making him cover an in-person conference with thousands of people as a reporter, then he had damn well better be fully vaccinated by then as media. (There is a large contingent of conference attendees who are of demographics that think COVID is a hoax, etc. I have no idea how they are going to enforce mask-wearing at this conference.)
So I just snagged him an appointment for this coming Saturday. Now, to figure out how to get to Morris, IL…at least it beats driving 7 hours to Carbondale!
For anyone in NY who hasn’t noticed: anybody in NY who’s over 50 is now eligible.
Second AZ shot now booked for the end of May (about 12 weeks after the first one as recommended).
My wife, who had the Pfizer vaccine, can’t book her second one due to the current unpleasantness going on between the UK and EU making supply numbers unreliable in the medium-term.
And they insisted on this before they knew they were going to be able to vaccinate media folk? Just going on a hope and prayer that by July we’d all be far enough along? That’s literally nuts and you may tell Tom Scud’s employer that I said so - I’m sure they’ll be suitably chastised .
Good to hear it will work out…but still…nuts.
Sigh.
Best wishes with that.
California has a policy that, with the exception of mass vaccination sites like Dodger Stadium, you have to live in the county where your shot is given. CVS, as I have said many times, doesn’t check but I have heard that Vons and Walgreen’s are following that advice and turning people away even with an appointment. The good people of Capinteria can’t drive ten minutes to Ventura but that can take longer trips to Santa Barbara, Lompoc or even Santa Maria which is well over an hour away.
We are in a thing now called Phase 1b Tier 1. It is not announced when the next phase will open but we do know that it will be open to everyone by the end of April. Phase 1b Tier 2 includes manufacturing workers which is me but I am a self employed consultant and can’t show a pay stub for proof. Phase 1c includes people over 50 which also includes me. I hope that they open the other phases before the big wave.
Yup. Saw that yesterday and made an appointment at Walgreens. Had my shot today. And the 2nd one on April 21st.
Where are you getting information on this 1c tier? I’m looking at the updating vaccine eligibility guidelines on cdph.ca.gov, and only 1a and 1b are mentioned. I’ve never heard of any tiers beyond those.
I apparently saw old information (which I can’t find anymore). Phase 1c was dropped at some point according to the article below. I apologize.
Yup, face it. I don’t know your age, but at nearly 59 I’m dead last in priority in California.
I totally agree. Unfortunately there isn’t a damn thing we can really do about it except get his butt vaccinated. The conference isn’t for sure as far as I know, but I wouldn’t put it past them. Never mind that innumerable conferences, including international ones, have happened online over the past year, including the one for the global organization that is most similar in mission to theirs. A childhood friend of mine works for the global org and is boggled that Tom Scud’s employer hasn’t spent the past several months planning something analogous, but well, they aren’t exactly at the forefront of technology.
It may well work out for him, but I dunno about all of the several thousand likely attendees, a chunk of whom are sure to be vaccine refusers. I am boggled that they are even contemplating an in-person conference at all - I would have thought it isn’t a good idea to kill off your members, some of whom are in risk groups (the demographic skews distinctly 50+, if not 60+).
Who the heck is Tom Scud?
My husband. And fellow Doper.
I’m 57. My friend who is maybe 54 and lives in SLO County just got his first shot. He claimed that they are doing over 50 there. This is based in a post he made on social media a few hours ago.
This Friday! Massachusetts opened vaccination sites to anyone over 60 on Monday and by Tuesday morning I had my appointment, due to the superpowers of my daughter-in-law who can finagle miracles. At a CVS one county south of me.
I was guessing early May, but I was WAY off.
I thought that might be it but when I tried the @ symbol no matching name was coming up.
They started over 50’s in my county on Monday, based on their projected vaccine supply. So the state hasn’t opened the floodgates yet, but individual counties slowly are as local conditions merit. I’m still feeling optimistic about the pace in CA.
What is your county?
Ah, I think that’s because on the current software he is Tom_Scud.
