Yup, I figured it was CC county. I checked and they’re only vaccinating 50+ who reside or work in that county.
True and as I’ve mentioned either in this thread or another CC county specifically has had their shit together in terms vaccinations. Better than some of their neighbors for sure. However it’s an encouraging sign and hopefully will signal the start of a trend as more counties start catching up on their existing backlog.
I’m in Santa Cruz county, and they’ve given out 136k doses to their 270k residents, which probably means 25% of the county is fully vaccinated. No idea if that means shit is together or widely separated.
I had originally guessed May or June. Looks like I’m going to beat that estimate.
I became eligible for the vaccine as of this past Monday, due to a pre-existing condition. But, getting appointments here in the Chicago area is a total crapshoot.
However, as I noted in the thread about traveling for the vaccine, my wife had taken her mother down to Springfield (three hours south of here) for her shots. I went onto the website for that location (a public facility, being administered by, I think, the Air National Guard), and was able to get our first appointment on next Friday (4/2). So, we should be able to get our second shots by the end of April. Woohoo!
Actually @Tamerlane, Contra Costa county has also given out doses equal to ~50% of their population, just like my county. Shit seems together equally. Maybe I should call my county HD and ask if we can be more like your county, since we’re very much like your county as far as total vaccinations, and we should probably offer 50-64 vaccinations as Contra Costa does.
Couldn’t hurt . I don’t know if they have the additional Federal pipeline CCC was claiming, but I assume they must be getting some in that fashion. I’m sure it always comes down to supply.
Of course I wasn’t just referring to numbers, but also CCHS’ organization. I mean I actually had kinda low expectations, never having dealt with this county before. But they were surprisingly efficient about registration and whatnot and were moving rather more quickly than my big HMO.
By the way, I, Santa Cruz County Man, went to my 6 month psychiatrist appointment today (I have insomnia issues and need lifetime meds) in Los Gatos, and my doctor didn’t mask. At all. And blew his nose in front of me. Seriously. He’s vaccinated, absolutely: he is old as dirt. But what the hell? I should probably start a new thread in this forum, maybe it’s not just me. But what the hell!?
California just announced that he vaccine will be available to all over age 50 on April 1, and everyone over age 16 on April 15.
I was way off. When this thread started, I was hoping for September. I just got a first dose of Pfizer today.
Hell yeah! I predict April 1st for my first shot.
North Carolina just announced that vaccines will be open to everyone 16+ starting April 7th!
Arizona is already one of the first states to open registration for everyone over 16.
Just got my first Moderna shot. That’s great news about California opening up to folks over 50!
I know this was a topic of discussion in this thread (I think - there are a lot of threads and I might be wrong), but the nurse at CVS said that if the vaccines started to be available at locations closer to me before my second shot, I could make a new appointment for the second shot at the closer CVS and cancel the existing second shot appointment that I have in late April further away. It looks like supplies are loosening up, so if I can, that’s what I’ll do.
And here’s a link to Governer Newsom’s page discussing the new dates.
I’m trying to get my spouse an appointment, but it’s really hard. I found an open slot for tomorrow at a Costco about an hour away, filled out the registration, clicked to finalize, and the website hung. It finally timed out, second try, same thing.
So, I switched to trying on computer. Their site is apparently overwhelmed. It’s just spinning most of the time. And has intermittently been down. (Checked down for everyone or just me.)
Sites for other providers haven’t updated eligibility criteria yet, or just have nothing available. Eligibility is tricky because some counties have been allowed to move to the next group, and you’re allowed to get vaccinated wherever you want, but some sites don’t ask the right questions to show that you are eligible.
I was so excited to snag (I thought) that appointment for tomorrow, and now I’m super disappointed.
My sign up was so easy. I hope she gets picked for one of the mass vaccination sites so we don’t have to grind away at these pharmacy sites day after day.
April 1st at 10am, Baby! It’s in Lompoc so about an hour drive but still in my county. Totally by the book.
Now Costco’s vaccination scheduling site has a system maintenance error page up.
