How’d you manage to get the appointment? The CA state and my county vaccine sites are still turning me away because I don’t have the current qualifications, vs next week’s 50-64 qualifications.
In a confusing turn of events NH only opened up eligibility to those 50+ the day before yesterday, but starting Monday those of use between 40 and 49 are also eligible, then on Wednesday 30 somethings, and a lastly a week from tomorrow 16-29.
Wish me luck on Monday!
I believe that this is a Santa Barbara County run site. I went through the process and it let me in. I answered everything honestly so either they are sophisticated enough to have that exception programmed in or they aren’t being strict. It’s possible that they would have allowed me to make an earlier appointment.
This one had a fairly long questionnaire and made me upload pictures of the front and back of my insurance card.
The feds will pay for the vaccine for anyone, so don’t let that hold you back for getting vaccinated if you don’t have insurance.
This is correct. In my case, I could have selected that I didn’t have insurance as a choice.
Santa Barbara County just moved the date for 50+ to Monday 3/29 for the public site (It’s still 4/01 for pharmacies). I just changed my appointment to Monday at 12:30 pm.
So…my original guess of late March was right on the money!
Damn you!
Good on you. My county web site still shows 65+ etc. I guess I’ll have to check next Thursday 4/1 and try to snag a spot; glad you got lucky.
MN (that’s Minnesota, not Michigan*) to open it up to everyone 16+ on Mar 30 – although there is vague (to me at least) emphasis on priority groups.
As a phase 1b tier 4 (50+ but no medical qualifications) I hope that means some priority

Costco’s appointments website came back up, and I got my spouse an appointment for a week from today. She’ll get vaccinated before me. No appointments available at any of the stores near us, but loads of appointments at the Costco that’s an hour and 15 minutes away.
Appointment scheduled for Mar 31. Facebook deserves a lot of grief, but it was where I found a link to make an appointment. Possible I could have found it some other way. (and possible I could get an appointment some other provider) but Houston County (MN) Public Health facebook has been good (ad responded to my messages pretty promptly)

My guess is that I’ll get vaccinated at 10:24 on Tuesday 3/30 morning.
Actually, that seems a little unfair. Like when National Lampoon supposedly had a betting pool to see who could guess when Mamie Doud Eisenhower would die, and the winning guess, “in about fifteen minutes”, was submitted by a nurse.
But I’ve been a bit hot under the collar because that New York Times link to tell us where we stood in line (in effect) said I should be approximately number 24,000,000. In fact more than 50,000,000 have already finished the process, and I only got an appointment this morning.
I turn 64 in May.
I have COPD, hypertension, and a BMI of 34.1 (after having dropped 18 lbs so far this year).
My spouse, my stepkid, and several of my younger co-workers have all been vaccinated, and none of them have COPD.
My sister in law and her spouse, both mid-late eighties, only just got vaccinated. But not in their own state. Their multimillionaire son in law got them shots in New Jersey.
System seems pretty haphazard and not sufficiently merit-based.
Vaccines have become super easy to get in California. This may change when everyone over 16 can get one in two weeks. I think that we’re close to supply outpacing demand and covid vaccines will be like flu shots; just show up and get one. They were super scarce just ten days ago.
We in greater Miami went through a similar transition from all-but unavailable to not quite walks-ins accepted. When they first opened it to 65+ outside of a group living facility the wait was weeks. Now it’s open to over 40s (will be over 30s starting tomorrow = Monday) and anyone who works the problem a little bit diligently can get shot the same week.
To be sure the poor, immobile, and administratively incapable are still being left out. Until and unless the vaxmobile is going through ratty neighborhoods playing music like an ice cream truck that crowd will remain out of touch and out of reach.
Supposedly sometime before the end of July. I know of Americans who are going to fly to the U.S. and get their vaccines there as they are 1) tired of waiting and 2) unwilling to wait longer to see their loved ones.
We’re supposed to get 10.5 million doses until the end of July. Not everyone believes the government at this point. I don’t expect too much change to my daily routine, nor will I make any plans to do so, until the end of May.
Today I was able to get my spouse an appointment at the mass vaccination site in our city instead of an hour away. It looks like the supply must be loosening up considerably. For neither of our appointments did I have to camp out on a website at midnight and hit refresh. I did have some appointments disappear while I was trying to schedule them, but I still got one in that session. I’m really optimistic about vaccination starting to move very quickly.
I also heard discussion about the new trials for vaccinating minors, with some very encouraging guesses about when we might see vaccination for kids approved. So, I’m putting my guess here that my kids might get vaccinated in the fall. I’m going to say September. I want to say August, but September is probably more realistic.
So my first apt is on April 29. Good enough.
They are doing ~1200/day at the Santa Barbara County site. I can’t tell you how impressed I am at how efficient and friendly everyone was. I booked my second dose at CVS for April 18th. Our county just moved 16+ to April 12th, three days ahead of the California date.
They were doing walk-in shots at the Safeway pharmacy, 16 and older, today. They were also giving out 10% coupons for a grocery shopping trip up to 200.00. I scored one that was flying around in the parking lot.
Well I truly did not expect anything til the summer but New York just made everyone over 30 eligible and I have an appointment for Thursday! I’m shocked!
I have an appointment to get my first shot on Saturday. I hope it goes well since I’m starting a new job on Monday.
