Gah.
Another reason that one might want to use the drive thru is that you see it’s empty, so you know you can get out fast. If you go inside you run a chance of having to wait.
A side issue, why does it seem like everyone but myself has transactions that take way longer then mine. I do business and personal transactions at the windows, sometimes both at the same time, and it goes very fast. What are these other people doing?
I’ll never understand people who throw trash out their car windows.
You know those Kleenex “boutique” boxes of tissue? The square ones? I save them when they’re empty and use them as little trash boxes in my car. When they get full, I throw the whole thing away (in another trash can, of course) and put a new one in the car. Very easy, very tidy. You can get a lot of trash in one of them.
Because people are dumb. Some people have no concept of a multiple transaction. I’ll get someone at my window who will present a check to deposit and say that’s it. So I process it. THEN says she wants to make a Visa payment, and that’s it. THEN wants cash back, and “that’s it”. Jesus Christ. She has them all planned out beforehand so it’s not like a, “oh hey, I might as well do this while I’m here” spontaneous decision. Nope. When you cheerfully let them know that, if they’d like to, they can tell you everything they want to get done in the beginning, they look at you like you grew an extra 20 heads.
My gramma gets her cash for the month in one transaction. Instead of saying, “I want $700, and make $200 of that in 20s, $100 in 10s, a bunch of 5s and a few singles”, she’ll say it doesn’t matter how it comes back. THEN she’ll take some 50s and want 20s. THEN she’ll take some of the goddamned 20s she just fucking asked for and ask for 10s. I’m so glad I don’t work where she banks. I’d have to kill her.
I love this idea. Thank you. I’ve got an almost empty box on my desk right now that’ll do nicely.
Why do you have actual tellers at the drive up banking? We have these amazing machines here in Canada that we drive up to. We can deposit, withdraw, check balances, transfer and do whatever else we need to do without any special canister/human interface.
I’ve never seen one of these in my life???
That’s OK. You have to come to the Monte Carlo BrewPub this Friday evening after about 8:30 and allow me to buy you and your friend a beer to make up for publicly humiliating you like this.
Unfortunately, I work long hours in a town that does not have a branch of the institution where I do my banking. My bank’s drive-up is open on Saturdays, but the lobby is not. This is true of many institutions in smaller communities.
It’s a ‘make work’ project
Now, that is a mighty gentlemanly thing for you to do! If I make it into Vegas on Friday night as opposed to Saturday morning, I can probably make it to the brewpub by 10. I promise to do my best. Vegas is an outstanding place for my first dopefest!
I will still be a total idiot, though. Total Recall, damnit!!
Email Yeticus Rex in the Dopefest thread, we’ll be there Saturday, too! Not sure where, Friday is as far as we got on plan making. And that never got past
- Beer.
Now, so we don’t get accused of hijacking this wonderful thread, boy do I hate trash in the drive through!
No really. What is the added value of having a canister/teller instead of just a normal drive up ATM?
Cost and flexibility, plus an ATM requires a fair amount of space.
I love those things.
No, I mean really. I always put the boarding pass in it just the way you’re supposed to, then when I am ready to change flights I switch it around so the other one is outsidr.
Sorry.
Every drive up I’ve ever seen has multiple canister/teller lanes and an ATM lane as well. Lots of people like the canister lanes for various reasons:
[ul]
[li]they’re old and are resistant to technology and ATMs[/li][li]they’re confused or have questions about something[/li][li]they want to do something other than a normal withdrawl and haven’t done that from an ATM so they don’t want to mess it up or take too long[/li][li]if you make a deposit at an ATM there’s almost always a 2 day minimum hold on the funds (where I work at least) because the deposits need to be verified by a real person. If you need the funds available ASAP, you go to a teller instead[/li][li]and many, many more![/li][/ul]
You know, I’ve never used a drive up ATM in my adult life (I can’t think of the last time I banked at a bank ((ha!)) that had one), but I always thought the idea was so cool. I remember going with my parents and thinking those tubes must be magic.
I still think they’re magic.
Empty water bottles work nicely as well. Sure they only work for small things like gum wrappers, but when you’re at a red light you can take the time to rip up all your other garbage into little pieces and stuff it in there too.
Then throw the whole bottle out the window on the freeway of course.
I would WAG a trust factor and a ease of use factor.
My stupid condo neighbor just throws them off of her balcony onto the beautiful lawn between the buildings. Or what would be a beautiful lawn if the rude smokers would not toss their ciggies onto it.
Do they think the butt fairy comes along and picks them up?
Haven’t seen a bank with the tubes since 1987. I know one of you lives in Bakersfield, so it’s acceptable to have bank tubes, home remedy clothing involving electricity, and other antiquated what-nots, but I can’t understand how so many other places could be so surpressed.
