Just walked in my door after settling Em and the baby on their couch for a post-nursing cuddle. LJ took Harriet out for their traditional Saturday father-daughter restaurant meal, after they go through the whiz-bang tunnel carwash. Pretty sure Jimmy John’s is the plan. A little routine and normalcy for Hattie.
I left my nightgown, a change of clothes and toiletries/meds there stashed in the guest room so they can call me over in the middle of the night if they need to. LJ has two full weeks of paternity leave and then some partial leave after that. Monday Harriet will go back to preschool 8a-5p M~F, which is good.
Sorenson is gorgeous of course, the spitting image of Harriet when she was born, except 1lb and 10oz bigger. Which also makes him the image of his mama when she was born. Same Buddha/Baby Yoda round face. Rose gold hair. Harriet is pretty pleased to be a big sister and has lots of plans for him, but she informed all of us that “he’s too little to eat popcorn”. Point taken.
Going to see how little I can do the next two days to recover. Couch time, reading and Doping in the dining room bay window til the late afternoon sun heats up and I relocate to the east picture window loveseat in the living room til it’s dark and cool.
Thanks to all for your sweet wishes for my new grand baby! You all are da bestest! Would not want to Grandma without you.
I’ve made two meatloaves; one wrapped, bagged, and put into the freezer, and the other one in the loaf pan waiting to be cooked tonight. The supermarket didn’t have any ground pork, so I used ground veal instead. The beef was ‘perfect burger’ meat (chuck, sirloin, and another cut) from the store’s butcher. Here’s how I made it [some amounts approximate]:
2 lbs. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
3 jumbo eggs
¾ cup + ⅓ cup bread crumbs
¾ cup + ⅓ cup water
⅓ cup + ¼ cup catsup
2 packets Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Mix in the stand mixer.
Cover with tomato sauce when about done.
Remember those cat-patterned aloha shirts (One Tonka and one Goo) I got a year or two ago, and they didn’t fit and the company dicked me around? And I got tired of dicking, so I got a charge-back on my credit card? The losers never contacted me about getting their shirts back, so I ended up with two cute aloha shirts I couldn’t wear. I finally remembered them, and just gave them to Mrs. L.A. They fit her. Woohoo! Free shirts for the wife!
We went to the Leonardtown Grille for supper because I had a hankerin’ for their grilled tuna steak - 'twas very yum! Then we ran by Food Lion so I could get mozzerella for the lasagna I’m going to make for Moanday dinner. Got home to discover I don’t have any lasagna pasta. So I either make another trek out for the pasta or I use the shells or rotini that I have and make it as if I had the proper pasta. Maybe I’ll just run to the dollar store tomorrow.
I got the second coat of chalkboard paint applied - it looks really good. But I decided I’d do a third coat for durability. That’s tomorrow’s plan.
The rest of the plan for tonight is Olympic-level chillage!
Evening all. Only refereed three games today and the temperature never got above 75F…of course, it was cloudy and started raining halfway through my second game and it stuck around for my third one, but it wasn’t a hard, driving rain, just a soaker, so except for my shirt and shorts being quite damp, it wasn’t bad. Feet are hurting, but I think I can manage 1-2 games tomorrow.
Dined on Fettuchini Alfredo for my only real meal of the day, and will try to head off to bed early, as the games start about 8:15am Sunday (so they can finish by Church time, I guess).
Have read all but retained little…so everyone have a good Sattiday (it is Sattiday now, isn’t it?).
Trying to not smile too big there. I stayed with my granddaughter for overnight for two nights to take care of her while my daughter and SIL went to to hospital to give birth to baby brother. Everybody is healthy ! Yeay!
They came home form the hospital today at noon. I left at 1:30 and came home. They said they would call me later in the week for a cuddle visit TBD. But days, maybe not until a week from now was their plan.
Just a few minutes ago I got a FaceTime call from SIL/the proud papa, asking me if I could come over tomorrow to help out. The grownups are hoping to get some nap time and I guess Harriet is telling them that they aren’t as good as Grandma at putting together puzzles with her .
The funny thing is I suck at puzzles since my traumatic brain injury. My bonked brain just is no longer any good at that kind of visual/hand/eye executive problem solving. 48 piece Frozen or Lion King $1 Disney puzzles from Dollar Tree I can keep up with a 4 year old though. She didn’t know Grandma’s brain before.
So Harriet humbled them in 6 hours flat (and no, swampy, I did not coach her to). But only because I didn’t think of it!
Grandma Boo rides again~he was a sweet little bundle to nuzzle and cuddle but I was careful to not pay him much attention until she left with her Papa for the rocket car wash and Jimmy John’s. I am sure there is a lesson in here for Grandma mooomm and the RoxStar.
Meatloaf sounds good flyboy. I haven’t made it for a long time.
Got the laundry done, mailed a birthday card, went to TSC for the small spade (didn’t get the elephant ears planted though), worked in the studio and took Nelson to the dog park. Let the Captain fix supper, though we won’t be going to that particular store again (slow service, didn’t get exactly what I ordered, no tartar sauce…). Besides, the other one in town always has a treat for Nelson.
Morning, mumpers! It’s grey and gloomy over here, been raining quite a bit overnight and now it’s just dull. But it’s Sunday, I have nothing to do but impersonate a sloth today, so that’s my plan. I could do the vacuuming, and I could do the ironing, and I could mop the kitchen floor…but I really don’t want to. And you can’t make me!
As it happens, I was thinking about the very same thing. minus Jimmy John’s… I’m pretty sure I’m Roxy’s favorite because when she’s here with me, she’s with me - even when I have things to do, I’m in the same room and we continue to interact. It’s going to be a challenge with the Tobester. (Toblerone? We’ll figure out his nickname later.) I really hope Roxy gets into PreK at least a few hours a day. We shall see how that goes.
I just ordered a bigger TV for the basement - sold by Best Buy thru DaJungle. It was $70 cheaper than buying directly from BB! So the TV that’s down there now will go in our bedroom and the one in our bedroom will go… I don’t know - maybe the guest room? We’ve also got a small one in my studio, tho I might get rid of that one and… I don’t know - too many TVs!!
Once FCD gets up, we’re heading to the cafe in Leonardtown for breakfast. We used to go there at least once a week, sometimes twice, but the quality declined for a while there. Way too much staff turnover, I think mostly because of the owner. She had a bit of a reputation. Dunno if she’s still there, but we’re going to give it a shot today.
Afterwards, I’ll put one last coat on the “chalkboard” so it’ll be good and dry when Roxy comes over tomorrow. I’ll finish the trim paint tomorrow morning, and it will be dry by afternoon. That will just leave the doors to be done. Plus I need to get a sample size of paint from Lowe’s to touch up a couple of spots on the walls. I used up every drop of the lighter gray paint but when we put up the new trim yesterday, I saw that I hadn’t covered all that needed painting. The sample size will suit just fine. And since Lowe’s in almost next to BB, when the TV is ready for pickup, I’ll just pop over for the paint. Wonder if I can order it ahead??
Main job I hope to attack today is hacking back some growth at the far end of the yard that’s almost reached the road. It’s way overgrown and it makes mowing almost impossible, plus I don’t want it hitting cars. So I’ll head back there with the hedge trimmers and the cart. Good times!!
And HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all you big daddies out there!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and drizzly with a predicted high of 87 and rain for the day. The big plan of the day is deheathenization, I am the non-cannibal kind of Lector, followed by a McN.O,.L. and an afternoon of stayin’ inside and dry whilst we work on acheivin’ even more sloth.
Had an ICK thing happen yestiddy. Well, it more likely happened a day or two before, but still. The compressor on a big upright freezer in the garage died. Thus, all the foodstuffs in said freezer thawed. Fun time of emptyin’ all of that out. Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can is full of thawed out stuff and already hauled all the way down to the road cause I figure better down there than up near the house with all that stinkification. ICK!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Fathers Day to all Mumper daddys of various and sundry creatures!
Good morning all. One more soccer game at 8:30am this morning, then I should be done with the tournament. I think 8 games in around 48 hours is fairly good for an old fat dude. Supposed to be near 90F by the afternoon, so best be done early.
swampy, sorry for your freezer malfunction. Will you replace the compresser or just get a new freezer?
OK, need to start preparing for the day’s game. All y’all take care.
All righty - I’m showered and dressed and FCD is in the shower as I write this. We’ll head out for breakfast as soon as he’s dressed. Which is good - I’m on the verge of a headache, which is why I normally eat as soon as I get up. But I waited for him, because I’m nice, dammit!
Yay, finally have read all the posts in a weekly mumper thread.
First, a big Happy Father’s Day to all the mumper Dads!
Second, BBBoo, congratulations on the birth of grandson, REN!! So happy for you to be able to cuddle and enjoy the newborn baby smell.
Trying to figure out what mass to attend today. There’s the 10am mass on the HS football field, or 6pm at a church that seats about 500+ that only several dozen people normally attend, or there’s the 5pm mass that I used to sing at in a duet. Haven’t been back to that church since the second Sunday in March 2020 when the churches went into lockdown. I really miss singing but just concerned about germies and also, neither the choir director nor the woman I sang with have reached out to me; maybe they think the Covid got me.
Swampy, enjoy reading about your vestrying. My daughter was elected to be a member of her church’s vestry this past February.
She lives in Chicago so won’t be home today so to celebrate Father’s Day, my husband and I went to dinner at Roman Village yesterday thinking that we might avoid the Father’s Day rush. We actually went kind of early and still had to wait for a table, not too long though. Looked like we weren’t the only one with that idea. My husband ordered Baccala which is sautéed cod fillet in a zesty tomato sauce; never heard of Baccala before but he said it was very good. I decided to try something different and ordered the Cannelloni. Wow, was that delicious, will definitely be ordering it again.
I went to a different nursery in search of the elusive properly sized mounding laceleaf maple. Some guy beat me to it and bought out the last five. They didn’t know when they would get more from their supplier. That’s three nurseries that I’ve visited, plus the two I called. So annoying.
So, instead of buying a tree I ended buying more plants at that nursery. They didn’t seem to have any outdoor planters, so went to Lowe’s and bought one there, along with some more container dirt (which it turns out I didn’t really need). Oh well. I got all the flowers planted lupines, and three or four other types of plants, and it looks really nice out there by the bird feeding station. One of the lupines is yellow and really tall and healthy. I really hope it helps attract some gold finches.
The birds were definitely in a hurry for me to be done puttering around near the station. They flew near me a couple of times and as long as my back was turned, would alight long enough for some food. As soon as I turned to look, they’d fly off. Once I was done, they all came back
We’re going to see the kids and grandkids today, so in a bit, I’ll shower and head to the grocery store to pick up the fixings for my contribution to the meal. I never made it to the grocery store yesterday.
Well, I’m going to finish reading the news and whatnot. I think it’s supposed to be another nice day, so I need to make sure I water my plants too.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Gordie and Alex Catt are celebrating Father’s Day by being underfoot and in lap. I may just bring the coffee carafe with me when I make pot #2. It’s supposed to rain all day, so I supposed I should take “Princess Pretty Paws” out
Sounds tasty. And I’d say go for the 5p.m. Mass, unless you live in a humidity and mosquito free area.
