I know it’s too late now, Dotty but had I seen your post earlier I woulda said go ahead and make some pancakes early and surprise her. See, I ate at six am (cheese and eggs, grits and toast) and won’t eat again until tonight. To me fast means not eating during the day. This is one of two fast days I observe. The other being Good Friday.
rigs it’s ok to be all teary eyed at a wake. I’m sure she appreciated your being there and knowing how much her late husband meant to you.
Taters I’m glad your friend’s kid is ok. I did not go to bed at 7:30 p.m. I was saying good night because I was gettin’ off the puter so I could be all settled in in time to watch “Gilmore Girls” last night. Watching that show is my secret shame.
Spats a week of cheese. I anxiously await the rest of the week’s installments.
No red meat or pork for me for forty days. Will I hold out? Will I be found wandering the streets crying out for bacon and hamburgers? Will ACBG figure out how to sedate me so he won’t have to listen to me carrying on about wanting steak? Nah. He’s actually gonna try it with me.
Is there a main dish for dinner that you could make ahead so that it’s ready when your family wants to eat? I’m thinking some type of soup in a crockpot, for instance. That would be a big timesaver for your Mom. Do you have siblings who are old enough to make a salad and make sure there’s bread on the side? Or could they make just pancakes and maybe some fruit on the side for dinner?
Or is there something you could make? Bookmarks? Can’t really think of anything else easy at this hour. Try [www.bhg.com](this site) for ideas. (It’s Better Homes and Gardens.) On preview, it looks like URL tags aren’t working. Really, the code’s in my post! They have annoying subscription pop-ups, but good ideas and recipes too.
I’ve just had pancakes for breakfast and am off to work soon…
Another boring day at the office is in the works. All the action will be tonight and tomorrow.
Tomorrow, VunderWife and I leave for Indiana as soon as I get home from work, to celebrate Da Rugrat’s 18th birthday. So, I’ll have to do laundry tonight, give the dog a bath, and pack clothes and stuff. All before Lost comes on, too. Since she re-broke her ribs yet again last week (another fall and osteoporosis), I have to do the heavy lifting. All this stuff has to be staged for a throw and go…
On top of that, I have a big review tomorrow that I can’t get out of, so I can’t skip work. Once it’s done, I can leave early.
altho I’m Jewish (culturally moreso than religiously) I’ve been thinking lately it might be a good idea for me to abstain from something during Lent - but what. If I give up caffeine, I won’t get any work done. I have already cutout most, if not all, sweets. I could give up complaining about my aches and pains. Would that count? It would be difficult for me to do, for sure.
Apparently, Dunkin Donuts has decided that though I’m culturally half Jewish and half Irish Catholic and actually one of those heathen Pagans, I am giving up sugar in my coffee for Lent. This is the new guy’s fault. They’ve got a new guy running the drive-thru, and he screwed up my coffee. Now I must search for sugar in the wilds of the office.
No pancakes for me last night. Instead I roasted some red taters (N.O.T.) and asparagus, and grilled some boneless chicken breasts. Everything got tossed in a few tablespoons of olive oil and spices first. Then after cooking, the potatos and asparagus got some shredded parmesan cheese sprinkled over the top. Better’n any ole pancakes and bacon, I tells ya.
I’m not much for giving anything up for Lent anymore. But I applaud alla you good folks for doing it.
Is it me, or is this just about the dullest Wednesday of the year so far? I thought so.
not so dull here - they seem to have been able to restore all files thru Thursday (but we’re still recreating Friday’s work) but we still cannot change any of the existing files on the central drive - so we have to copy our work to our personal drives and work from there - and them remember to move everything back to the main drive when we get the “all clear” (sometime in April the way things are going)
I’ve gotten one for .12, and another for .28. The wife and I kept them. We keep saying we’re going to frame them to put them on the Bookshelf of Welby’s Stupid Crap, but we haven’t yet.
See, now I’m confused. I know that tweaking means fine tuning, but…
I don’t see how that sense of the word works in this sentence. So, I remembered the very first episode of Six Feet Under where Claire approaches Nate and says, “I’m tweaking”.
Since she had just consumed any amount of unknown drugs, I assumed it meant she was freaking out. And I took the word in that sense to make sense of the above quoted sentence. (not that Tater’s daughter does drugs, I meant the freaking out part). #1 son used to stand behind me and wait, silently for the computer–made ME tweak, I tell you!
OK-so I just spent 20 minutes explaining this. I need to get out more…
I am still so sick and so sick of being sick. I may end up watching TV. Oprah, even.
Write her a letter. Doesn’t have to be a long one, but put in it what she does that makes you love her, all the things she’s done for you, how nice it is to have her support. Tell her you love her. Tell her you’re lucky to have her. Trust me, she’ll appreciate that endlessly.
Why, I wish I had had a mother to write such a letter to! My mom was…was…
runs off sobbing
Ok, I’m back. Anyway, I think it’s an idea. Let me know what you think!
Well, if you went “tupub” it wouldn’t be a boring Wednesday anymore.
Rosie some people also do some type of volunteer work or some type of spiritual reading and so forth during Lent. It could be something as simple as spending some time with your friend who just lost her husband, making her a few meals, checking up on her to see how she’s doing, etc. or it could be volunteering to help on some kind of community project like a Habitat for Humanity Build or volunteering to read at a school… all kinds of stuff. The whole idea is to turn inwardly and reflect. If you know of some kind of spiritual reading you’d like to do or spend some time in reflection and prayer or something like that, Lent is a good time to start. Who knows, it may even become something you want to carry over the rest of the year. Just some ideas. I’m going to do Morning Prayer and Devotional readings (it’s an Episcopal thing) during Lent. It should be something I do everyday so maybe this’ll get me into a pattern of making it part of every day. This provides what I think is a pretty good explanation of what Lent should be all about.
I thought maybe tater’s daughter was plucking her eyebrows while waiting to use the puter. Or maybe just standing there making a noise that sounded like “tweak”.
Now there’s an idea. Actually, the day just got un-boring. My cow-orker (the one who’s miffed cause I’m taking so many Fridays off) is out sick today. She has been to the “doctor” several times in the last couple of weeks and today has a “migraine.” I say this all tongue-in-cheek as it is no secret that she hates her team leaders and the feeling is mutual. They are hoping she’s job shopping. The problem is she is morbidly obese. Not just obese but life-threateningly obese. So I don’t see a lot of hope there. Anyway, her team leaders have asked me to alter some spreadsheets for them so now the day is no longer dull.
riggs, could it be you have the flu? Last time I had it (Dec 2000) it just went on and on for weeks. I HATE flu!
