Tales of Michigan MMP

passes out

I’ve convinced Toy Roommate to get a AAA membership. My demonstration of cheap towing has shown her it’s a Good Thing To Have. We drove all over town doing errands this afternoon and capped it off with a trip to Burger King for kid’s meals. We both have Neopets and we wanted the toy. The toy did not come in the special bag that had the code to enter into the site to get cool online stuff. But I have a cute orange Grundo sitting on my monitor.

Yes I am a little kid inside. It’s my defense mechanism.

My Uncle lives in Manistee. I always loved going up there to visit them when I was a kid. I learned to water ski up there.

Fleeting madness? You mean this time of year when it gets cooler and all the summer fun is being sucked away from me??

I hate snow.

Okay, as promised: THE WEDDING BLOG ENTRY!!!

I’m feeling quite smug since I beat pretty much everyone in disseminating pictures of the event–my boy and DIL just left here after borrowing a camp stove and I got to go through it with them, yay! They liked it… I also heard back from my ex’s wife who couldn’t make it to the wedding and she’s ecstatic that I put it up so fast–I noticed that the ex didn’t have a camera with him so she would’ve had to wait for a looooong time to see any pics from the wedding. I rock and stuff! :stuck_out_tongue:

Technically, BelZ, that was me getting RHPS stuck in your head–don’t blame poor LOUNE for that! Oh, and you’re welcome!

**rosie, **I couldn’t help but chuckle at the juxtaposition of “drove 80 miles with the parking brake on” with “I was at a Mensa conference.” snicker

Oh, forgot to mention that I made Death Chicken again last night for just us two (I had enough ingredients left over to make a full pan, yay!) and I made a few changes–which I detailed in a comment on the recipe blog. I think I addressed some of BooFae’s issues with the dish. I can see wanting a bit of spice to it–I used hot paprika rather than the sweet stuff which seems to be more normal 'round these parts. I bagged the nutmeg, which I did put into the first batch (how in hell did I end up WITH nutmeg and WITHOUT allspice? The world as we know it is seriously awry!) but thought did little for the overall flavor. Instead, I used about a teaspoon or so of curry powder and also used crushed garlic instead of garlic salt in the liquid ingredients. I also felt there was a lack of veggie material in the recipe so I scattered chopped crimini mushrooms on top of the rice before I added the chicken. I thought the changes improved the dish substantially–somebody else try it that way and tell me what you think.

Hmmm, need dinner now… byee!

ETA: I keep forgetting how young you are, LOUNE!

rhps?

Yes, dear–you asked “what does the riff-raff say,” to which I replied with a line of Riff Raff’s from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now go along and google it like a good boy, do… Or ask your dad! :stuck_out_tongue:

:frowning: [sub]But now it’s not Death Chicken…[/sub] :frowning:

We’ll have to come up with names for the variations–Suicide Chicken; Car Crash Chicken; Hanging Chicken etc.

I watched Andy Griffith, The Cosby Show and now watching house porn. I am bored, bored, bored.

Cool wedding blog! I really like how the bridesmaid dresses are the same color, but not the same style (unheard of when I got married). I am a bit confused re who is who (young kid–your grandson? the cute one–who does he belong to?). Princess is adorable. Love the dress.

You all look happy and happy for them. That’s nice to see. I like how the exs all seem to get along (or at least for the day). Very refreshing!

THEY MOVED ITLAPD??? Nooooo!!! It’s supposed to be September 19th!

My ex-boyfriend is from Michigan and I don’t want to think it because it makes me sad. I’m sure it’s very nice, though.

Concerning work today:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

Ahhh. Better. At least it’s my Firday.

I’m back. You missed me, right?

Gonna have to re-learn how to post pics from here. Hopefully I can edit them on Photobucket; I think that’s the fastest option. Or you’ll get the unedited version. Walked down my hill and took pics of curbside (it looks like everyone has shrubbery on the tree lawn). Also, there are a couple of spectacularly fallen-apart trees. (Fortunately not near any structures.)

Talked to the little brother. His kids are staying with him today because their mom doesn’t have power back yet. They were excited to be able to take warm showers and eat toast. Amazing what you really really want to do when there’s no power.

OK…so…Michigan. I was born there. We lived on the Michigan State campus when I was born and, except for a couple of years, lived within blocks of the campus. I really get homesick from time to time, but wouldn’t actually want to live in East Lansing again because it’s too small. But it’s pretty. The campus is VERY nice. And, on the whole, I have to say Michigan is a much more beautiful state than Ohio (which has some beautiful spots, really it does), because it has much more variety. And lots more lakes. The Traverse City area is gorgeous. The UP is amazing ( ::waves at Athena:: ). My great aunt lived in Marquette (and taught at Northern Michigan). I think we only visited her once, but I still remember how cold Lake Superior is. My Grandad was from Deckerville, which is a little town in the Thumb. The family had a cottage near there, on Lake Huron. Port Sanilac, I think… (But maybe it was near a smaller lake and we just went to the beach near Port Sanilac…I dunno…I was a little kid, which means it was more than 40 years ago.) Those of you not familiar with Michigan geography, zoom out from that link and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

And…if you don’t remember Michigan…you probably haven’t been there.

I’m sleepy.

And sad that my laptop appears to be dead. It’s backed up on Mozy, so I should be good, but… I really don’t want to be buying another laptop just now. :frowning:

Oh, rigs, the sequence was: 1) power out, 2) laptop appears to be dead, 3) power back on, 4) laptop still dead, PC miraculously working, 5) tree on fire due to power coming back on, 6) tired fire dude says this’ll be happening all over town.

That probably doesn’t make more sense.

Is it Firday yet?

GT

HEE!!! Love it!

Steak night was fun tonight. It always is, but tonight seemed exceptionally so. Even ol’ y’all know who commented on that and he usually does not have an opinion one way or another.

Ok, off to read the wedding blog.

Heh, meant to comment on that as well, rosie. Excellent line. on the brakes. I’ve had that happen to me, but I don’t think I’ve ever made it quite that many miles with the parking brake on…

Excellent wedding blog, Smartie. Sounds like you had fun.

Off to bed…finally.

GT

SmartiePants, your dress… well, if I weren’t like gay and you weren’t already all hitched up with Himself, I’d have to say… How YOU doin’? Seriously, you look F-aaaaaa-bu-lous! The blog is great! And yep, granddaughter is all kinds of cute overload!

That time it made sense. #2 son is trying to convince me that he cannot do his homework due to his sinus congestion invading his brain. His words, not mine.
Off to make hot tea for #2 son. And to crack the homework whip.

That looks like a lovely spot to have a wedding. The weather was beautiful this weekend, so it made it even more so, I’m sure.

Whew! Another long day, and it isn’t over yet. I need to pick my daughter up from work at 10:00, so I’m killing time until then.

Dinner was turkey burgers on whole wheat buns. I mixed the ground turkey with shredded zucchini, fresh cracked pepper, sea salt, minced red onion, and a little shredded cheddar cheese. They were tasty.

Guess I’ll WoW it up or something now.

Great pics, SmartiePants! What a lovely wedding!

I still intend to make Death Chicken, but I think it’s going to have to wait for next week, because we’ve got Too Much Food.
Okay, Nat wasn’t has horrible tonight, but I’m starting to wonder if being single parents four nights a week is standable. We’ll see. Give it a month.

Tired, going to read and then crash. Night!

Oh, and Stupid Coworker diasppeared to read in the basement several times, and is Thoroughly Useless.

Oh, and we got a very cute resume from a teenage girl who consistently spelled ‘Collegiate’ ‘Colligate’.

It was funny.

She went to Jarvis colligate. Hee.

All of these long losts reminded me ( ::waves at welby and Belz:: ): I dreamt that Rue posted to the MMP.

Oh…Stupid Co-Worker appears, indeed, to be stupid, LiLi. So sorry.

Off to bed now. Really.

Why thank you, swampy! That’s so sweet of you–this old fag hag appreciates your appreciation. I liked the dress a lot myself, especially since I’m a dreadful old hippie/peacock who can’t abide restrained colors mostly–the exception is that I’m very fond of plain white tops with jeans. I’d be more than happy to dress in tie dye pretty much all the time if I could get away with it. I felt like a macaw in that group of tastefully dressed people, heh heh… Hey, the dress wasn’t expensive, it wasn’t polyester and it was appropriately matronly to suit my mother-of-the-groom status. Those shoes really matched, too, didn’t they?

Rigs, Junior and Grandboy are one and the same–Junior is the nickname I gave him since his name, my son’s name and Himself’s name are all ridiculously similar to the point where we found ourselves doing the “roll call” thing trying to holler at him when he was younger. Calling him Junior makes it easier to avoid those embarrassing miscalls… You spotted the extreme prevalence of exes, I notice–good thing the whole family didn’t show up–Sis is on her fifth husband, my dad’s remarried, mom’s second husband died almost ten years ago but before that they all got together for holidays and miscellaneous social occasions. I also have another ex-husband but we don’t bother with each other much–we don’t have children together and I don’t like him since he broke our divorce agreement, screwed both kids out of their college educations and became a Republican.

Yes, all the exes do get along quite well, it’s amazing really. I’ve always thought that if there was enough to get you together in the first place there ought to be enough to keep you friends afterward if you can get over the bitterness. Having kids together and having to work out all the details of custody and child support and visitation can burn the anger right the heck outta ya so it’s better just to be grownups and get over it…

I liked the different bridesmaid’s dresses as well–it was very practical since they all have such different body types. I was relieved to note that one of the bridesmaids had her sash built in to the dress with the tie in the back–this left Daughter free to tie hers that way as well which minimized its impact. She then ditched it right after official picture session–probably gonna use it to mop up after her next oil change, heh heh…

Oh, and it’s still Death Chicken–just a slightly different autopsy result, neh?
