Bumba!!! Dude!!!
That Palin baby name generator is great, says Fowl Overtime.
I hereby decree that Tony Chachere’s Cajun Spice gives an appropriate level of kick to Death Chicken.
Michigan, ah Michigan - I remember you well. I was in Kalamazoo a few weeks ago. Nice town. They have a problem with time though. When I awoke in my hotel room it was an hour later then it should have been. Then the hotel clerk lied to me that Michigan is in the Eastern Time Zone … I had a very surreal experience because I flew from CT to Chicago and then onto Kalamazoo…The time change in Chicago stuck with me until that darn clerk looked at me like I was an idiot or stoned (go ahead wide open for commentary).
My trip to Michigan was soon followed by the tour of England in search of the elusive Flying Pig and Flying Cow. The way to acquire such a toy is as follows:
Take Car service to JFK
Fly to Heathrow
Take Cab to Oxford
Be driven to Malmaison in Oxford
Be driven next day to Cambridge
Be driven back to Malmaison Oxford
Take cab next day to Oxford Station
Train to Bristol
Cab to University
Be driven back to train station
Train to London - Paddington
Cab to Hotel - Thistle Marble Arch
Cab next day to King’s College Inst of Psychiatry (drop off or pick up??)
Driven to London - Victoria station
Train to Burgess Hill
Cab to UK offices
Be driven to Nottingham -
Driven to University next day
Driven to Nottingham train station
Train to London - St Pancras
(Marvel at how uncrowded the station is … oh yeah Eurostar is down due to Channel Tunnel fire)
(Notice silly English K-neee-git playing with bubbles in front of toy store…ok he wasn’t a Knight but he was silly and English…)
Enter toy store to find something that will impress a 13 year old and a 10 year (Soapy and apparently the MMPers)
Take Flying Pig and Flying Cow along with my hopes and dreams to a cab to London -Paddington for a two train ride to Terminal 4 Heathrow.
Go to Hotel
Next day shuttle back to airport
Fly Home
Take car service home
Install Soaring Porcine and Bovine
There is already qute a bit of overlap. In fact several attendees had registered for both conferences and just took whichever hotel rate waas cheaper. But that may have been the only time a Con and an RG were held simlutaneously
Typical of the ones I go to are a lot of beer, plenty of board and tabletop games, lots of food in the hosptality suit, and for me and a few others, poker until 3am. There are workshops and lectures during the day but I couldn’t tell you the last time I attended one. I’m either schmozzing and snacking, or learning some new game and snacking, or drinking a Mike’s and snacking… you get the idea.
Pie - stop being sick. I have spoken.
Time Killer - wouldn’t it have been easy to just find them on line? (Don’t hit me, I have a bad back)
Nope. That would be Mom. I was born in the same hospital as my Dad in beautiful Lansing, Michigan.
Wow! Bumba!!! I remember hearing you say you had relatives in Michigan, but I don’t remember ever hearing that you were born there, let alone in Lansing. Welcome back, at any rate. Here’s the link to rigs’s version of Death Chicken. We’ve been keeping a blog so that we could track the recipes that keep being mentioned around here.
Which reminds me: anyone seen McUne lately?
And…added Soapy’s Pasta to the blog…
Hi MBG and SO and any other drive-by types.
That seems like a lot of driving around if all you went for was the flying animals, TimeKiller. Do we have a nickname for you? On preview I see rosie and I came up with the same thing. ::cue Twighlight Zone music…or something::
I went out and bought myself a new laptop (although I won’t get it till tomorrow). I’ve been meaning to get a PC laptop to eventually replace this ANCIENT desktop, so since the iBook seems to be fried and I don’t have time/money to deal with repair/replacement at the moment, I figured I’d get the PC and then worry about the iBook. I looked through the ads for Best Buy and Circuit City and wound up finding an HP somethingorother on sale at Staples (they’re about to restock for when students come back to OSU next week, so I figured it might be a good time to go). It was the display model, so they have to wipe it and set it up brand new. Should have it tomorrow after work. Yay!
I really hate not having a laptop at home. Hate the thought of needing to worry about viruses and malware and such, but…oh well.
Gotta go figure out what else I’m doing tonight…

Rosie - was there something specific you wanted to discuss regarding the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (www.gmta.org) ![]()
No amount of travel is too great to spoil the Soapy Slayer Spawn
Hi Taxi! Of course I remember you. How could I forget those nights we lay in each others arms on the beach at Impanema? Oh? Well I remember you anyway.
I was NOT in the woodwork, Swampy, I was in…the back room, that’s it.
You know I just came back here cause you never come over to Skippy’s place anymore dontcha FCM?
Yes I still do soap Lissla, but I cut it into bars now, buckets are so last week! I see you have a baby now. I knew that guy you were living with was up to no good!
Bobbio! Dude!
Thanks for the welcome GT Seems like I just saw you yesterday.
Oh wait, I did.
That death chicken reminds me of something I used to do years ago called poke chops with orange rice.
Pour a bunch of rice in the bottom of a casserole dish.
Pour in the appropriate amount of orange juice  for the amount of rice you put in.
Put your poke chops on top, salted and peppered, of course.
Cover.
Bake for a really long time. I forget how long 'cause I haven’t made it since I got married. Wifey doesn’t like it. It’s a wonder I married her.
The rice comes out funny colored from the pork, but it tastes good.
Oh, and hello to everybody I didn’t say hello to. Specially Taters.
And now you have to go right back and get me a pig. Ta.
Also, the clerk was a jerk–a lot of western Michigan towns stay on Central Time–at least those near the MI/IN state line.
Off to random generate names. This should be interesting.
Rankle Hiway Palin, checking in for duty. Gah.
Can he wait until I’m out of Kit Kats and shortbread cookies?
OMG, Bumbazine! It really is old home week! I don’t know if you remember me, but I remember you.
I made an awesome dinner tonight. Fried butterflied shrimp, baked NOT wedges, corn on the cob, and sliced maters. To die for. The shrimp were breaded in flour mixed with Old Bay, dunked in milk/egg wash, then rolled in Zatarain’s FishFri (seasoned cornmeal mix.) For dessert: Trifle made with leftover lemon pound cake, vanilla pudding, diced canned pears, and whipped cream. Groan…
Still no power at work as of 5:30 pm. I’m probably gonna work Saturday (for free,) just 'cuz we’ve lost so much time on our project.
Manana!
Aw, Bumba, I’ve missed you! We drove right by the Soapy Bear on our way back from the Oregon coast. By the time I realized it was your store, we were past it. Also, it was around 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening, so I’m not even sure you were open.
I’m waiting for Mr. Taters to get home from playing in the water on the neighbor’s boat. I’m slightly bummed that I’m not out there, but he asked me to make Death Chicken tonight. Since it’s his birthday, I came straight home from work, prepared it, and put it in the oven. I then spent nearly 40 minutes trying to get my damn garbage disposal unjammed. I finallly succeeded, but I’m going to have a discussion with my daughter about what actually can go in the garbage disposal. Cripes, I worked up a sweat trying to get it fixed!
Ooops, there’s hubby. Smooches and hugs to all!
NO. <stamps foot> I want my pig NOW.
Off to bed soon. I’d welcome Bumbazine back but I didn’t know he left… <sheepish look>
Need to go to beddie bye…
I meant to say that SIL is very lucky to have you and FCD, FCM.
I know I was going to say something else…but…what? Maybe I’ll remember in the morning.
Nitey nite!

Home. I have to be up at 0400, since we have a manager’s meeting in Hickory, and we have to leave by 0600. Grrrrrr. To amplify last night’s post, My Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary(who brought pie(N.O.P.) last time RV’ed through Raleigh on the way to somewhere. Nelly fell in love with their anorexic poodle/maltese mix, Ted. Ted, being deballed, feared women, and hid. We did Chinese buffet, and then had beers in the RV. They gave me Michigan tomatoes, garlic bologna from Alpena, and Nelly got a pirate themed bandanna.
Welcome back, bumba! Were you here when I started Mumping?
Me too!
smartie, neat quilt.

AHHHH! I’m late to the Michigan party!
I was born and raised in Michigan. I’m a graduate of the University of Michigan. Last month I said goodbye to my beautiful state and moved out to the east coast. (Also, I’m in Michigan right now for job training. I feel like an ambassador of Michigan to all my New Yawk coworkers, and duly apologize to all visitors for the atrocious weather at the beginning of this week… blame Ike!)
I absolutely love my home state. I have strong state identity. There is something really special about the lakefront, the leaves in the fall, driving on back roads through corn fields and waving to the cows… It’s not New Jersey, it’s definitely not New York. It’s a special thing all on it’s own that is so powerful I can’t define it. I know the trees, I know the lakes, I know what creatures I’ll find if I kick over a log. I’ve spent hours in the clover, so many long childhood days on the tallest branch of the nearest Maple.
Maybe someday, if the economy heals, we’ll come back. I could easily live in Ann Arbor for the rest of my life, which is my favorite Michigan place to be. It is a cultural and intellectual hub surrounded by the wonders of nature.
Hell, I even love Detroit. What a tough city, what scrappy people.
Hail! To the victors valiant
Hail! To the conquering heroes
Hail, hail to Michigan the leaders and the best!
Hail, hail to Michigan the champions of the west!
Drip. Drip.
:gratefully accepts tissue from doggio:
Well, early on this week I said I had a Michigan tale to tell. Unfortunately it’s kind of bittersweet as I know of Traverse City and the surrounding areas because that’s where my ex-boyfriend lives. And I while I still think of it as one of the most beautiful places that I’ve ever been, I guess I’d rather not get into it all.
Things are kind of shaky here right now. I basically spent most of the day crying when no one else was around. Which is not an easy thing to do when you’ve already got a runny nose and wear a cpap mask for sleeping. I’m surprised that my eyes weren’t swollen shut this morning.
Here’s to better days, I guess.
Up, caffeinated, off to meeting hell.
LiLi! Tell Gnat to stop trying to make me holler with laughter while at work, damnit!
You have a very well-behaved cat
Sorry things aren’t going well, Pie. Hope things start to look up soon.
No singing THAT son in this thread, olives!
:p:D <----Go Green.
Up. At 'em.
