OK… so I’m having a party tonight. Lots of alcohol and fireworks. What could go wrong?
I just realized that it would be rude of me to not invite any dopers. And I know there are some around here. pezpunk, Amp, Tampa Tom?, and others. Plus people close enough to drive on over if they have nothing else going on. Sure it’s last minute, but that makes it easier… either you can come or you can’t. None of that “we’ll see” crap.
No machine guns this year though. Two years ago I brought a backpack full of ammo and a Glock 18 to my friends New Year’s party. We had the loudest and best firecrackers that year. (No, I dont fire anything in the air. EVER)
But anyway, this year will be BYOB and BYOFW!!! Everyone is invited, and you can invite all your friends so you dont feel awkward not knowing anyone.
This is a pretty big house with a large back yard. And the best part is, it’s being remodeled soon. So who cares what happens to the carpet or walls… I dont.

Oh, wow! I wish we’d have known sooner, we’ve been itchin’ to meet up with some Tampa Bay Dopers, being all new here and all. I’m on a holiday leave from my TDY in San Antonio, but when I get back, we should arrange a “spring in Tampa” Dopefest.
BTW, are you stationed at MacDill? Bluesman and I are both stationed there.

No, I am not stationed there. Actually, I am waiting to see if anything will open up after the first, but I doubt it. Most likely I will be working out of Camp Blanding in Starke, FL for the next couple months.
Just waiting to go back to Ft. Bragg.
Quick summary for you cause my position confuses a lot of people. Even me sometimes…
I am in the National Guard. 3rd Bn, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Yes, the National Guard has Green Berets!! There are also Naval Reserve Seal Teams (so I hear).
For the past couple years I’ve been in training. Mostly in the SFQC at FT Bragg to get my long tab. I passed Special Forces Selection, Phase II, and was kicking ass in 18D Phase III. But then I got a four day weekend pass, and became an idiot. I went home to Tampa and was arrested for DUI.
For whatever reason, that’s an automatic removal from the Q course. So I have to wait 6 months to go back now. Damnit!! Was going to try to spend that couple months over seas, but the guys at my unit talked me out of it. They want me to finish training as soon as possible. So they would rather me go back as soon as I can instead of spending a year over seas and finishing after.
So now I am trying to see if I can at least get on active duty orders and do something at MacDill or Blanding (preferably medical related) while I am waiting to go back. So I dont have to find a stupid “real” job.
Anyway, that’s me in a nutshell. Actually the first time I’ve talked about that DUI. I was pretty devastated about it, as you could imagine… two years of SF training flushed away for one night of being stupid. And the fact that I dont even remember getting in the car or driving off makes it even worse. I want to punch myself when I think about it… but oh well. I will go back soon!!
Are you in the AF at MacDill, or another branch?
BTW, a spring dopefest is a GO.
It sounds like we have a lot of common ground. Bluesman and I are both in the AF. He is NCOIC of the intel shop for…SOCOM! And I am a nurse. If you do manage a job on MacDill, drop us an e-mail, and we’ll (or you and Bluesman, if it’s before the 21st of Feb) do a mini MacDill Dopers lunch.
And you know, we all do stupid things. The fact that you recognize that what you did was stupid is a huge advantage. So many people never clue into that. And, you still have a military career to go back to, which not everybody does after that, as I’m sure you know.

JFTR, Mrs. F. and I are tentatively planning to be in the Tampa area for the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City on the weekend of February 28th.
Is that weekend Spring enough in Florida for a Spring Dopefest? 
Man, he just can’t stop going on about that Strawberry Festival.
Anyway, I’ll definitely be down for a couple of spots in January, maybe again in February and on a semi-permanent basis in March. It will be nice to have warm weather again. Hope to meet some bonafide Tampa (and Pinellas County) Dopers then.

Well, it was 78 degrees today. Feb 28th should be pretty Springy. Maybe we should start a Strawberry Festival Dopefest thread? There seemed to be some interest from another thread in the firing of some machine guns for fun. I might be able to aquire some for that weekend if people would like to go shooting at a range as well…
