Tank Abbot?

Does anyone know what ever happened to Tank Abbot? He isn’t in the UFC anymore, I heard he was kicked out for being too brutal in his fights? This true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the boards. I haven’t watched UFC in a while, too many rules hindering all that violence now. I did do a quick search though, and it appears Tank is (or has been) involved with the WCW. I didn’t hear that he was kicked out of the UFC, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t. It does appear he has been causing a lot of controversy with his wrestling though, you might try a search with Tank’s name and “Big Al, knife” apparently he held one to some guy’s throat.

Sorry to see he went to wrestling, but I’m guessing that’s where the money is. Didn’t the Shamrocks do the same thing? Well anyway, hope that helped.

Brandon, I haven’t heard anything about Tank ever since WCW went down the tubes. He hasn’t reappeared in WWE or Jarrett’s NWA fed as of today.

I don’t think he was kicked out of the UFC for being too brutal. The last several fights I saw him in, he lost. It seems he is a legitimate ‘tough guy’, and could knock out just about anyone with a good shot. Problem is, it didn’t look like he put a lot of time into training. If the fight went more than 5 minutes he was completely winded.

Also, I think I remember seeing him in someone’s corner (sorry, don’t remember who) during Fox’s first “Celebrity Boxing” matches.

Motuhbreather- He was in the corner for Rip Van Vinkle (AKA Vainilla Ice,who was put soundly to sleep by Todd “Willis” Bridges from Different strokes)

Good queston though. While he was brutal (nearly killed 2 guys,or at least sent them into viloent convulsions which he made fun of as they flapped around.) I don’t think he was kicked out. He did lose his last few fights though, and did threten someone in WCW while he was there. Besides the Celebrity boxing, I dunno where he is. Either at a bar drunk off his rocker or (yipes!) training someone like Vanilla Ice somewhere.

Tank was not kicked out of the UFC. He was suspended for a while when he started a fight with another fighter in the audience of an event (I think it was the one they had in Puerto Rico). After his suspension, John Peritti took over the matchmaking for the UFC. John preferred to keep the fights true mix-martial-arts events and didn’t like the straight street fighter/bully style. So out went the Tank Abbotts, the Paul Varelens, the Scott Ferrozas, etc.

Of course, now that the UFC is under new management again, these types of fighters may be invited back once again. However, like was mentioned earlier, wrestlers and other grappling stylists had already figured out how to beat Tank so he wasn’t much of a threat anymore anyway.

I personally think the UFC went downhill when they abandoned the tournament format.

I saw the fight involving Tank and the Bonebreaker (I think that was his name) which involved convulsions and mocking. Didn’t know there had been two, learn something new all the time.

I also thought Tank had been working on submission moves and some grappling? I’m pretty sure I saw him using a few new techniques. I think I’ve seen him lose more fights than he won though. He had never been my favorite, but I always found him interesting since I heard that he got his start in pit fighting. He also kept things funny with his bravado when he was one of the commentators.

I wish I could get into wrestling like hardygrrl so that I’d have something along these lines to watch. I miss the early days of the UFC and have looked for a replacement ever since.

I also liked UFC when it was KO tournament style. After all, it was the show where a 180lb guy beat a 270 lb guy by ougrappling him. That’s epic. Two guys mandated to the same weight class, much less epic and compelling.

That sould say outgrappling him…

The “mocking and convulsions” were his debut fight against John Mattua (Matua?).

Abbott also had the single most devastating one-punch knockout against anyone I’ve ever seen. Steve Nelmark’s neck and body ended up twisted in a positions that looked simply unnatural.

Yep, you can download a video from this page that has that KO in it.

Just nasty.

I have dial-up, and when I tried to d/l the video (the lower res) I was looking at over an hour and a half, so didn’t get a chance to view it.

The fight I am thinking of went like this: Tank and the Bonebreaker (I am pretty sure that is his name, his discipline was bonebreaking and he was from Hawaii), circled a few times. Tank closes and hits the guy hard, guy goes down, Tank hits him again… the guy is out cold with arms pointing straight down toward his toes, fists clenched and he is literally twitching. I don’t remember it being one of Tank’s earliest fights, I’m pretty sure Big John was the referee by then, and that’s who pulled Tank off. Then Tank gets up, and walks around the octagon flexing and looking generally maniacal. He also locked his arms in the position of the downed opponent and mimed twitching. I think even the commentators were saying something slightly mocking in tone about bonebreaking during all of this.

I swear I’m not trying to be contrary, but am curious as to whether we are all speaking of the same bout?

The one Mjollnir is talking about, and I link to is not the mock/twich one. This one is against some guy who has his back to the cage, Tank catches him with a straight right in the jaw, and thos poor schmoe just collpases like an accordian, his legs bent underneath him and his head and arms at some sickly looking angles. Looks like some weird yoga poistion, and I’m very sure that my body doesnt bend like that.

Ok, I’ve been patient…
I have to bring up the “Tank Abbot joins Three Count” WCW storyline.
Making their way down the aisle, everyone’s favorite pseudo boy band who just happens to wrestle…cruiserweights Shane Helms, Shannon Moore and Evan Karagias…and their burly buddy Tank!

hardygrrl, aren’t you glad we didn’t see the “Tank Sinatra” angle?

Knowing Russo, if WCW had lasted any longer we would have seen that.

Of course, we also would have seen “World Champion Tank Abbott,” but that was allegedly the straw that broke the back of even WCW.

[hijack] Am I the only one that wants to see a shootfight Tank Abbot vs. Goldberg? [/hijack]

Tank Abbot would make Goldberg look very stupid very quickly. Goldberg can barely fight in a fixed match without looking stupid or hurting someone(on accident).
I want to see Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar go at it.

Thanks for your help guys and girls. Tank lost a lot of fights too because of his fighting style. He had the tendency to rush at people without keeping his guard up, making it easy for both him to get knocked out and for him to knock out other people. That’s why the majority of his fights seem so one-sided. I also heard about the ECW thing, and don’t get me started on the WCW. I would like to see Triple H vs Brock Lesnar.
