Teabaggers

It’s worse than you think. He spelled it wrong because he thought people would find it less offensive.

Do you have a cite? NOT because I don’t believe you, but because I really, REALLY want to read that, if it’s true. That sounds hysterically, incredibly, mind-bogglingly insane. (If you’re being sarcastic, never mind)

Your cite, madam:

Mind you, I don’t know anything about the authenticity of this website or the alleged correspondence of its owner with Robertson, but that’s what he says.

Some good people, some bad people, mostly normal people… but I’ll never convince you of that.

So it’s okay with you if we call the bad people and the mostly normal people “Teabaggers”?

Is it just me or has What the … !!! just recently taken interest in politics? He’s come into a few threads now and comes off as so absolutely clueless. Is he new to living in America? Is there any books someone can recommend ‘recent politics for dummy’s’ or something so he doesn’t wander in and make comments like

Yeah those ‘radicals’ are really dominating the Democratic party these days…

You and me both.

No, he’s been attacking Democrats since the election, at the very least. He just submerged for a while after that.

Look, we are of course talking only about the Tea Partiers we can see, who are neither good nor normal. Are other sorts “in the movement” in some sense? Maybe so.

We’re not outraged over their existence. We’re pointing and laughing at them.

Some of them might be “good” in the sense of well meaning and naive, but, by far, the most defining characteristic of these people is stupidity. Some are stupid and well-meaning, but easily led or frightened. Lots are stupid and straight up mean, nasty or racist, but all are stupid.

By the way, why don’t the “good” teabaggers try to clean up the rallies and say something to the ones with the racist messages, and the violent messages and the flat out moronic ones about birth certificates and “death camps,” and “czars?”

Good photos but I asked about a theme. Anybody, including a provocateur, can show up at any rally carrying any sign.

Where’s the evidence of a racist statement made and applauded, a written theme of written racist comments, etc?

The teabaggers have no unifying theme at all. It’s just an olio of various and sundry disaffected misfits, religious zealots, morons, racists, gun nuts, segregationists, anti-abortion crusaders, conspiracy theorists and other random nutballs. The racists are always threaded into these things, and the teabag defenders always deny that they’re representative, but none of them ever make any effort to purge them either. They also don’t try to purge or disavow the birthers, deathers, Czar-o-phobes or other assorted idiots with signs.

Trying to portray the “movement” (really, these are talk radio and Fox News fan-con events, it’s not a genuine, organic movement) as being all about taxes is transparently disingenuous given that the conservative gold standard, Ronald Reagan, had more progressive tax policies than Obama.

I thought their unifying theme was “waaaahhh! we lost!!!”

You think someone could show up at a Democratic rally with a sign like that and hold it proudly?

If you’re gonna handwave away evidence, I see why you’re a tea-bagger.

I didn’t wave away anything. I asked for evidence; I got very weak cherry picking. Where’s the evidence of a theme? If this racism is worth mentioning there should be numerous examples of it from the podium. How about one?

BTW, what exactly is proud about that guy? Personally I think he looks more like a democrat plant.

And since I’m not homophobic not scared of being labeled as a conservative, your name calling just doesn’t do it.

They have podiums at these shindigs?
I’ll need a cite for that.

Actually the plural is podia, but podiums will do.

Would that really make a difference? Sounds like elitist liberal thinking to me (along with the use of the word shindig, as if it’s a putdown) . I can just imagine you and Paul Krugman…My god! Look at that man with the bullhorn standing on…on…on… on asphalt! No doubt whatever he’s saying is bullshit!
BTW, I went to two tea parties. One had a podium, one didn’t.

And still waiting for a useful cite on that racist charge.

:dubious: No, you don’t.

Have they chosen a Democrat plant? 'Cause if they haven’t, I’ve got one in mind, personal favorite of mine…
