Tebow is starting to figure out this game. He’s still got a lot to learn. I hope they let him stay with the Fireflies for this season. Get really established and comfortable before moving up to AA.
I know he’ll never make the majors. But he may have a respectable minor league career.
This would be a very good start for a kid out of high school, but he’s not a kid out of high school. His learning baseball will happen just in time for him to lose his physical skills; he’s not yet ready to move up a level and he turns thirty this summer. Big, heavy guys tend to fall apart in their early 30s.
In a low level minor league prospect, the most important statistic is age.
I doubt he’ll even have much of a minor league career; he’s good for Columbia’s attendance, I’d assume, but when it becomes apparent he can’t get past A or AA, he’ll probably quit. Of course, maybe New York will give him a fun callup in September if they have a spot on the 40-man roster and they’re out of it.
Not to draw comparisons between the two players, but the last two posts easily could have been about another high profile publicity stunt twenty-some odd years ago. Maybe Tebow will rejoin the Jets and win 'em a Super Bowl?
However, the trouble is his delusional fans, who like him only because he’s Jesus-freak, insisting he’s the second coming of John Elway, then when it was obvious he wasn’t (but they’ll still insist he is), suddenly he’s the second coming of Mark McGwire! If they would just STFU, the rest of us would leave him alone.
I understand that athlete’s skills begin slipping as they enter their thirties.
Usually a young rookie hits his prime after a few years training & experience. Time is not on Tebow’s side.
I’m mildly curious to see how far he gets in this sport. He might end with a decent career in the minors. Increase his team’s ticket sales for awhile. That’s about it.
