Technical: Can't watch videos all of a sudden?

Trying to watch the videos on YouTube (which I used to be able to watch) I now get the following message:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia’s Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player. "

I click there, I click install and get the “Macromedia Flash Player successfully installed” logo. I close all browser windows and restart my computer, and nothing.

As for Java being off, the only option I can find is under Internet Options (I’m running IE 6.0) -> Advanced, there is a checkbox which says “Use Java 2 v1.4.2_03 for <applet> (requires restart)” and it is checked, as it always has been.

This is absolutely agonizing, as it keeps giving me this message and I am completely at a loss as to what’s wrong. So what’s wrong?

i also am having this problem. oddly enough i CAN watch the videos in firefox, or linked from youtub on other websites…

Yeah, I sent YouTube an e-mail and they never responded. It happened to me on another site too, but I can’t remember where. Some videos work fine, others don’t. Go figure.

Note that Javascript and Java are different things.
