Lately I’ve found myself listening to alot of “Euro-pop” i.e. Tatu and Gigi D’Agostino. Can anyone possibly give me a listening list. I really enjoy the euro-beat. I find that in any North American flavour is just too bland, song A sounds the same as song B. So any techno dopers have some ideas for a guy whos into the bassy techno, fast paced music, and a nice beat? Language really doesn’t matter.

these guys are more house-y but its good stuff
For nice beats and groovy basslines, try:
Royksopp
Bjorn Torske
Tim “Love” Lee
The Bobby Hughes Experience
The Propellerheads
Anything from the Whole 9 Yards label
Anything from the Skint label
Anything from the Illicit label
Most things from the Wall of Sound label
For some downtempo weirdness and other things straight out of left field, try:
Anything from the Warp label (in particular Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Nightmares on Wax)
[rabid fanboy]
Anything from the supremely excellent Ninja Tune label
And for the widest, most varied selection of aural delights (ranging from everything you can possibly imagine to everything you possibly can’t), check out the best radio show in the universe, Solid Steel, brought to you by those overlords of groove at the Ninja Tune label. They have archived RA streams (full quality stereo and all that) with playlists usually dating back 8-10 weeks or so, so you can easily hunt down whatever catches your fancy on their show. Give it a try. I assure you you won’t regret it.

And last but not least, there are the excellent Dance Music Resource Pages, where you can hear audio samples from every single release that comes out in the UK, sorted by genre. It’s virtually impossible not to find something you’ll like here.
There’s loads more, but that should do for a start. Hope you find something you like. Happy grooving!
Milder (less ‘ravey’) stuff:
Fatboy Slim
Lemon Jelly
Compilations from Ministry of Sound
Orbital
Faithless
Richie Hawtin
Jeff Mills
John Aquaviva
Carl Craig
Carl Cox
Sven Vath
Adam Beyer
Cajmere
DJ Dan
DJ Godfather
A lot of Detroit beats need to be controlled by a live dj. Hearing these sounds in the hands of a Derrick May or someone similar brings them to life. The Europop stuff is what most mean when they say techno.

Look for anything Happy Hardcore
Well, if you like bassy, fast paced electronica, then you can’t go wrong with hardcore techno.
Check out such genres as:
Happyhardcore
Hard Acid Techno
Trancecore
Hardcore
Well, ok, the OP’er could go wrong. But I can’t. Call me biased. I love my hardcore- happy, Nu, or just plain evil. It’s all good for me.
If you’re feeling adventerous, check out some of the archives at http://www.sonicfury.net or http://www.americancheese.org. Both of those crews also have links pages on their sites. If you like it, explore. If you don’t, don’t blame me.
Don’t buy CDs from stores for these. Download mixtapes or live sets, and burn them. The CDs you can buy in stores are crap.
not always true. Richie Hawtin has 2 or 3 sets he’s released on CD, including the new one where he tags with Sven Vath. There is a fair amount of good Jungle Mixes out on Disc too(Dieselboy, AK1200). Carl Cox has a few decent CD mixes too.
what you want to stay away from, are mixes filed under various artists where they don’t even mention the DJ’s name. Those are usually crap.
and for god’s sake stay away from Happy Hardcore. Call me old fashioned, but I like my hardcore violent and angry
I was really more referring to the hardcore CDs available- the happy2bhardcore line, the Happy hardcore foundation line, etc. I certainly agree that you can get great electronica CDs from other genres.
Hawtin’s “Decks EFX and 909” is one of my favorites for chill music. AK1200 never disappoints me. Diesleboy has gotten way, way too slow and mainstream-y in the past couple of years. IMHO, his last good CD release was system upgrade 2.0
I won’t slam traditional angry hardcore one bit. Back when the scene wasn’t crap, I practically lived in hardcore rooms at parties. But HHC can be fun. These days, I’m really into Nu-NRG/Trancecore. Long live hardcore techno in all of its styles!
Robert Miles. It’s great ambiance music.
I fall into the jjimm style of techno (if it’s even called that- drum n bass? Electronica?) and will echo his suggestions as well as adding The Avalanches and Squarepusher. If you look for 'em you can find shows on the BBC Breezeblock (usually the band mixing records) from a lot of the aforementioned artists that will give you a taste of their music.

Banks, I happen to see that you’re in Chicago, are you a Delta 9 fan? He was probably the first Hardcore I ever saw live. Quite an experience to the uninitiated(thank god my first time wasn’t a DBN/Massive show, I might have had a seizure)
I’m a Delta 9 fan. Delta 9 kicks a lot of ass. Either the best or the second best still-going hardcore DJ in the midwest. Probably the most hardcore party I ever went to was “Gracie’s Happy Birthday,” or “GHB,” in St Louis in… 2000? 2001? I’m thinking 2001, but I’m not sure. Anyways, that was the last time I saw Delta 9, and his set kicked my ass.
Claude Challe & Ravin
Yes! Listen to this man. Wonnnndeful, the Miles is.
Hm. Also, this one foreign artist…Faye Wong…not REALLY Techno but I love her, I love techno and I think this is almost it.
One more…remember that one car commercial with the really cool song? Urm…didn’t think so, but it’s right here anyway.
telepopmusik
Go and find “the player”…I really enjoy this guy.
If you can stream I reccomend Digitally Imported, I don’t know whether this site will be too hardcore for you (you said you were into Tatu and Euro-dance), but the Eurodance section is quite commercial.
If you want some non-commercial hard trance music, check out the Bonkers series of albums.
Sorry, but Eurocheese such as Tatu does in no way shape or form come under the heading of techno; even the loose definition of techno which I’ve heard Americans use.
If I were you, I’d start looking at all of the different types of “techno” music there are and see which you like best. Then either ask here again or go to a more specific website.
Genres (and producers) you may well want to take a look at :
[ul]
[li]Funky House (Danny Rampling, Paul Daley, Danny Tenaglia)[/li][li]Progressive House (Sasha, John Digweed)[/li][li]Hard House/Hard Dance (BK, Lisa Lashes)[/li][li]Hard Trance (DJ Scot Project)[/li][li]Trance (DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Blank & Jones)[/li][li]Eurotrance (ATB)[/li][li]Old Skool (Ratpack, DJ Slipmatt)[/li][li]Happy Hardcore (Bonkers, DJ Brisk)[/li][li]Drum ‘n’ Bass (Zinc, Hype, Andy C)[/li][li]Garage (EZ, Zinc, )[/li][/ul]
Check out some tunes or sets in each of these categories and narrow down your search a bit!
