The quote you dug up was not spoken by “libs on this board.” I’m a lib on this board, and I didn’t say. I could point you to a bunch of libs on this board who didn’t say it. The vast majority of libs on this board, in fact, didn’t say it.
If you claim to have a cite that supports your position, make sure it’s a cite that supports your position.
Pardon me, but could we leave the Libs are mean!/No they’re not! debate for the Pit Thread and leave this thread to eulogize Mr. Kennedy? Who, btw, saved my fiance’s uncle from having to serve a third tour in Vietnam. He and his office were famous for helping individuals who were the victims of government bureaucracy.
I’m not so sure about “public servant”.
It was HIS JOB. A very well paid job, with great benefits.
It’s not like he volunteered his time.
I deliver mail. Does that mean when I die, my eulogy can claim what a great public servant I was? I do a darned good job, for the public.
Per Wikipedia, “A civil servant or public servant is a civilian public sector employee working for a government department or agency.” So yes, your eulogy can claim what a great public servant you were, and good on you! I’m glad you do a good job of delivering the mail; we have a new carrier, and he keeps giving us other people’s mail.
To you (and me), it was a very well paid job. But a man of his connections could have had an EXTREMELY high paying job in the private sector, dwarfing anything he earned in the Senate. He was a diligent and dedicated public servant.
