Ted is Dead

Anyone have a link to a transcript of the speech he gave when he took Bobby’s seat? Something about picking up the torch - I can’t find it for the life of me.

I love the conservative nimbleness of thought and malleability of conviction that allows them at once to celebrate Sen. Kennedy’s passing while remaining butthurt about like remarks from the other side of aisle many years ago. Orwell indeed would be proud.

It’s been three hours. They’ve got time yet.

No one has to pretend sadness they’re not feeling, but if you wish to attack Senator Kennedy, pls. take it to the Pit.

Would you be kind enough to point me to the posts by conservatives wishing agonizing pains on Senator Kennedy? Of the sort that many of you liberals, universal philanthropists that you are, wished on Jesse Helms in his last hours?

Of course, fresh graves of hated political opponents are an invitation to the dance for both sides, it’s simply that conservatives tend to retain their humanity in so doing and refrain from gleeful visions of their enemies in the throes of agonizing death. Why should that be, I wonder.

Ah yes. You simply hate speaking ill of the dead. Unless liberals did it first and you’ve yet to get your digs in. And while we’re trading in generalizations, thank you for showing that there’s no point so obvious that a conservative can’t miss it.

It isn’t.

It is.

Hey, we could do this all day, but let’s pretend we’re on a message board where we can do more than say 'tis and 'taint.

Here’s a mean little example from a thread on Tony Snow’s death.

Give me something equally nasty from the cons and I’ll admit we’re as vindictive as each other.

Read Free Republic sometime, Mr. Pure.

“Not as nasty as Freepers!” is not a banner I’d want to rally behind.

Check what you yourself wrote in the GD thread, aldi.

I was speaking, as really should have been quite obvious, of the behaviour of the cons and libs on this board. Why, I mused, should the liberals be so much more vicious.

Hence my request for example posts. But no matter. The fact that you had to look so far afield speaks volumes in itself anyway.

Um, Bobby was a senator from New York when he was killed. Ted was the sitting senator from Massachusetts at the time.

Well, there’s

from this recent thread.

to be fair, it’s doubtful he would have received a life sentence for manslaughter, even if he’d been a nobody

Yeah - figured that out a few minutes after posting… I still remember a very rousing ending to a speech he gave that wasn’t “The Dream Shall Never Die” one, either. (Unless it was, in fact, The Dream Shall Never Die speech…)

It’s a left leaning board, so trying to limit things to this board is kind of meaningless. There’s only a handful of conservatives who post here, and very few of them are of the freeper variety.

Unless you are claiming that this board is a representative sample of both liberals and conservatives, I don’t know what point you think you’ve made.

This is a board with lots of liberals. A few of them are nasty. Boards with lots of conservatives also have nasty people. That’s just the way some people are. This should not be a surprise to anyone.

Yes, yes, quite. I was drawing no large conclusions from this. I simply thought it odd that I could remember not one single example of pain and suffering being wished on a dying liberal. But I take your point, we do have some particularly heartless lefties here.

Ted Kennedy was a champion of this volunteer program. When I first heard about that program in 2006, I saw the tape (it may be the same one attached to the last tab of this web site; I don’t use ‘Quicktime’) where he not only asked viewers to volunteer their time for the program, but he admitted that he personally volunteered and read to school children at a school near his office over his lunch hour every Tuesday.

If I knew nothing else about this man, this most assuredly would be ‘one good thing’.
