Ted Lasso on Apple TV {Returns March 15, 2023}

I don’t know if they are planning to do further seasons after this one, but I like this idea. I would do it where Roy would coach a new MLS team somewhere in middle America. Maybe St. Louis or someplace like that. Roy would be tasked with building a soccer culture and adjusting to living in a strange land full of Ted Lasso clones.

I think middle America wouldn’t be as funny though as Roy would probably kind of understand middle American types a bit more than Hollywood or Miami types… and what’s Keeley going to do in St Louis (my idea is that Roy has to get used to Keeley’s new star friends that she’s representing)?

St. Louis FC started its inaugural MLS season a couple weeks ago. Perhaps Oklahoma City? Some of the fish-out-of-water jokes just write themselves, in the land of cowboys and oil barons. Would he be an assistant or head coach? Plus, MLS does a lot of recruitment from South America. Maybe he would take a Spanish-as-a-second-language course?

Could make an LDR for a while, though that would get old quickly. OKCFC would have to make road trips to NYC, Miami and LA during the season, so coordinate those with Keeley being in those cities for work and you’re gold. Throw in trips to Austin and Nashville if she gets clients in country music.

What would be a good title? “Roy !@#$%^&* Kent”?

I think that was a red herring but who knows? I don’t see her listed for this season but cast lists before a show airs are inaccurate at best.

I do have a feeling there will be a bit of a time jump between seasons. It may be just a few months but enough for changes of various relationships to have occurred off camera for later revelation.

Yeah, seems possible.

The premiere goes live in a few hours:

It’s not up for me yet. I’ve been waiting all damn day/

Rupert is up to something. Somehow not winning benefits him. He didn’t hire Nate to win and Nate will win despite himself.

I can see Nate as an assistant manager, but not as the manager of a top team. So yes, perhaps Rupert is up to something devious.

Then again, the whole reason that Ted Lasso was hired was to not win, so they’d be repeating themselves if it ends up that Rupert had the same reason for hiring Nate.

Rupert may be a shit but his support of Richmond FC is genuine.

He might conceivably move far away and buy a little club ad a hobby but there is no fucking way a london football fan is going to spend a fortune buying another london club.

My prediction for Nate is his tactical genius and new confidence make him a huge success for the first 1/4 of the season. Then he has to deal with a human problem or two , which he fucks up , and the team turn on him.

Huh? West Ham United is hardly a “little club” bought as a hobby. And it’s in London. Did you watch the second season?

Ok, one more time, slowly:

Rupert, a sincere fan of Richmond, would never spend his fortune on another similar or bigger sized london club.

He might pick up a distressed asset and flip it.
Or buy a little club as a hobby. Or move far away and get sucked into investing in his local club.

But he is not to ever gonna pay top money to buy the hammers off the dildomen.

Also, If he could afford to buy west ham he wouldnt have had to lose richmond in the divorce .

I don’t disagree with your other points but I must quibble here. I don’t think Rupert feels affection or loyalty for anything the way a normal person would understand. To whatever extent he has a positive association with Richmond, it is as one of his possessions, now a former possession. It’s debatable how realistic it is that he would have lost this specific possession in the divorce, but it’s a given circumstance of the show, so we have to take it as written.

What we do know is that in the first season he was pursuing steps that could have led to his retaking possession of the club, until he was thwarted by Ted in the darts game and he realized he would need to change tack. But even there, his attitude suggests that he was doing this as much to undermine Rebecca’s ownership interest in the club as to advance his own interests. He was not simply a fan and booster; he enjoyed tormenting Rebecca and demonstrating his dominance.

It is not implausible that he would use his considerable financial power to buy into another club not because he has any rooting feeling for the club but because it is a useful weapon with which to continue his campaign against a woman who refuses to lay down and be defeated, which a man like him simply cannot abide.

Edit to add: I do have thoughts about how and why Rupert could have lost the club in the breakup, but I also think if he really were simply a superfan, he would have fought tooth and nail to keep it, so something else has to be going on.

I wasn’t confused because you were talking too fast but because in the last episode of the second season, Rupert did in fact buy West Ham United. And in the first episode of the third season, he’s shown to be the owner.

Either he is not really the owner or the writers have fucked up.

The plausible explanation in the divorce is he let Richmond go precisely because it was more valuable to him, so that he could get it back cheaper later.

Perhaps rupe nate and westham dont play that much role in season 3 - otherwise a fictional rival to Richmond would have been better for sustained conflict both dramatic and comic.

@nicky I think I understand your point but I had to read your posts a few times to get it.

Football fandom in England is insanely ingrained even more so than sports in America. If you are a fan, you are a fan for life. Therefore, one would never buy a rival team to their own team because you’d be helping an enemy. Any London based team is a rival to any other London based team.

So, Rupert might buy a team in some other part of the UK but not West Ham.

OK, now I get the point that to you, it seems implausible that he would first give up Richmond in the divorce, and then buy a rival London team. However, that’s the story we’re being told.

I just wanna know if the Ted Lasso Lego set is really available!
