Oh man…
First I’m hearin’ voices, now Cnote’s got me seeing triple.
I gotta lie down…

In case you were wondering…or wanted to sell your PALM stock or somethin’.
Paul
The good news is that MarketPlayer is back up.
The bad news is that it’s not showing any of the transactions I’ve made since last Friday. It’s as if I’m still holding the stocks I held at close of trading Friday.
A quick look at other player’s trade histories suggests that we’re all in this boat.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing? ('course, my seeing and hearing have been challenged a lot lately).
Same thing here. My cable connection went down Monday eve. and I wasn’t able to get online until today, I was surprised to see the stocks I thought I sold on Monday.
I’m guessing this problem affects only those of us who were daytrading (Cnote, Boscibo, myself and probably one or two others). If you were just holding your stocks since Friday anyways, you wouldn’t even notice the problem (except for a missed interest payment on the 21st).
I can’t decide whether to wait for them to fix the problem, or trade the portfolio as it currently stands.
I would have made a lot of money yesterday on the stocks I bought and shorted Tuesday, (bought INTU, shorted BAMM, LNUX and TLAB), so I’d like to see that portfolio restored.
But I don’t feel like waiting around for MarketPlayer to get its act together, 'cause maybe they won’t.
What are the rest of you thinking?
Paul
Well, this sucks.
Looks like it’s a game of golf now - we gotta play it where it lies. And it’s a Par 2 course.
[sub]And I know I’m the last guy who should complain[/sub]
I think I’m going to bail on this one. On the Friday that this game reverted back to I was doing O.K., but not great- I made my serious move earlier this week.
Today, it shows me with the old stock and a total of $63,000 in my portfolio. On Wednesday (?), or whenever it was it last worked, I had moved to a high of $109,000 and could make a serious move at the #1 position. With two days remaining, I doubt I could make up that lost ground- so I’m not going to try.
Too bad, actually, but these things happen.
Does the site glitch mean the winner of this round will get the infamous asterick after their name?
C’mon, Cnote, give it the old college try.
I’m not a big fan of asterisks.
Hey, sdimbert, what’s your take on all this?

Can we do this again? Today is the last day, right? Let’s try again!
FWIW, here are the “final” rankings:
1 -- PaulTheYounger 30.80%
2 -- Boscibo 6.47%
3 -- SouprChckn 3.84%
4 -- sdimbert 1.81%
5 -- SaintZero 0.32%
6 -- pantom -12.54%
7 -- thinksnow -28.09%
8 -- CnoteChris -37.32%
I am not sure it’s worth starting up another round. I mean, of the four we’ve had, two have been royally screwed up by the host and the number of players had dropped each time.
Anyone really interested in trying again?
I know that I have learned to stay away from the Market.

-37%, geez Cnote, you suck
I think this game has shown why it’s more like gambling than investing: the short term dives and climbs are way too volitile to accomodate any sort of reason or reasonable strategy.
Investing is about the long-term. Day trading is a great way to piss your money away in a hurry, IMO…actually, not IMO, in fact.
This game is fun, but take it for what it is, a glimpse into the dangers, and possible-but-unlikely fantastic luck, of day-trading. Look at what happened with me: I bought one stock, one, and held it. I shot up 68% and dropped 68% ending up, what 26 or so percent down. That was over one month. You’ll get an ulcer trying to invest on a day-to-day basis!
Whatever you do, do not confuse what happens/happened here to dictate your long-term investment strategy. Buy-and-hold.
[stepping off soap-box]
An excellent summation, thinksnow.
I’m not happy about the screwup at MarketPlayer, but I think all and all they’ve performed much better than the last site. By hosting these competitions, they give a lot for what we pay, and then again sometimes we get what we pay for.
I’d love to do this again…I have learned so much over the last two months. Not just about daytrading (no I’m not going there IRL), but about what makes the markets move, what makes a strong company or a weak one. And I’ve found a number of good financial resources on the net whilst doing research.
Having said that, I can’t actually compete again for June or first half of July. Work is becoming much busier, and I’ll be on vacation after that. Unless I just by one or two stocks and let them go up 68%…
I hope the competition does continue…if you don’t want to host it again, sd, I’ll volunteer, but I won’t be ablt to 'til after July 15th. Plenty of time for another round between now and then!
Paul
I wouldn’t mind playing again…I know I can do it by myself, but I thought the competition was fun. I learned a lot too, and would love to learn more.
Well, if people want to learn, who am I to stop it?
Let’s all try to drum up some interest… I will get the game started some time in the middle of next week.
Stay tuned!
