Rereading the OP, I’m not sure I emphasized sufficiently that I’m definitely interested in nonfiction writing as well – essays on history or literature or science or anything else. I’m envisioning this as the online equivalent of The New Yorker, only, yanno, better.
Delusions of grandeur? Do you really think so? Hm.
I could do a few reviews for games and movies; though someone might have to do editing for me hangs head in shame
She said something nice.
Who are you and what have you done with the Twicks?
:dubious:
I’m nice. A bit ruthless at the Scrabble board, but nice.
I had the most horrible dream last night. We were standing in a line on a stage with our laptops and you were screaming at us in a braying British accent…
I just noticed this. Would you be interested in articles on Human Rights issues? I’m a longtime member of Amnesty International and I could write about that. For example, highlight an event in a particular country. Or else write about a broad human rights theme (e.g. maternal mortality)
Yeah, could be – something around 500-750 words. Email me at the teemings address (at gmail dot com) with some specific ideas.
A note: That’s 250 words per double-spaced typewritten page: Most computer fonts are more space-efficient, and can fit about 350 words per page. When I went from high school to college, I thought my writing skills had diminished, because it used to be so easy to write 500-word papers, until I realized that my high school papers were all on a typewriter and my college ones were all on computer.
Thanks for so neatly highlighting my advanced age.
The first issue is coming along nicely; we’re currently shooting to have it posted around New Year’s.
This means that I’ll need to have submissions for the first issue no later than 12/15.
I’ve already gotten stuff from a whole bunch of people – to whom, thanks – but am hoping to have more – this means you!
Send your writing (a regular Word doc, pls., if you’re sending as an attachment – I’ve got Word ‘03 and the docx format doesn’t open for me) to me directly. If you want to submit photos (either as artwork themselves, or photos of projects done in other media), a link to where you’ve got them posted online is fine. Either way, pls. send to the teemings email (teemings at gmail dot com). If you don’t get an acknowledgment that I’ve received it within a day or so, follow up via PM here or at my mod address (twicksterSDMB* at gmail dot com*). (Oddly enough, Carnivorous Plant had problems getting through there – though why gmail would care about him dissin’ me right and left, I don’t know. )
Moi?
Here is the Microsoft patch for Office 2007 documents.
Can I suck up, or can I?
Did you get my submission this time, BTW?
Thanks for the link.
Didn’t you get my email? The second try, where you cc’ed both accounts, went through to the mod account, but still didn’t make it to the teemings account – I was able to forward it there myself.
I’m planning to spend the afternoon working on* teemings* stuff, and will get back to you sometime today.
Projects done in other media - would you be interested in music, assuming it is a) provably public domain b) our own work with which we may do as we please or c) we have paid the mechanical rights?
This could be done by linking to other sites where the stuff is stored (SoundClick, MySpace, YouTube, etc.) or by somehow embedding the necessary stuff in the Teemings site. (I’ve no idea how that works, and in fact, I’m told that it takes up a huge amount of space on one’s website. What do I know? I remember reel to reel as being a pretty cool innovation.)
I don’t know – let me run it by Eutychus (webmaster) and Gfactor (reader and writer of all small print).
I just found out that the person who’d been doing the title art for the old version of teemings isn’t going to be able to do it. (Click on an issue title here to see an example.) Anyone interested? I’d give you the title for the issue, you’d come up with a small rectangular bit of art for the header. Email me at teemings at gmail dot com, or PM me here if you’re interested.
BTW, we’re going to be using more art in general in the revival; see this post for more info.
Okay, we’ve consulted on this, and the answer to this is “yes.”
*On the legal end: *We’d love to hear the work of Doper musicians, but don’t want to have to worry about copyright situations, so we’re going to limit it to your own music and music in the public domain. Even if there is music to which you have mechanical rights, we don’t want to open that can of worms – so, sorry, no covers of stuff the copyright of which is held by someone else.
As far as logistics are concerned: We’re going to embed a YouTube player on the site and run all music through there. If you’ve got a sample with video, you’re good to go – if you’ve got an audio sample, YouTube will, apparently, run it with only the most rudimentary of videos (e.g., a single photo, used as a still).
As with other contributions, you can send them to me directly, or send me a link to something already online – teemings at gmail dot com.
Okay, I’ll see what I can come up with in the next couple of weeks. It’s too bad; it’s the ‘mechanical rights’ stuff I’ve been working on that I could send you at the drop of a hat. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy…
Subsequent question - any objection to song repertoire in other languages? I’m aware of the posting rules, but if I were to record, say, a Schubert Lied in German, would the language automatically disqualify it from consideration? Please let me know, when you have a moment.
Nope, singing in languages other than English is fine.
Sounds interesting and could be a lot of fun. I’ll e-mail my idea as a Word doc w/ links, pix and other e-junque just to see how the logistics work.
Have a question others might be interested in. How will the SD community’s feedback, if any, be communicated? To whom and by what media? I’d think the carrying (tongue slightly in cheek), candor and immediacy of most posters on this site as to criticism and correction would act as positive, and welcome, editorial feedback for anyone contributing.
