Tekken on PSP

I have been playing the Japanese version (I imported for 40 euros, cheaper than buying it in the store here!) since late June and absolutely adore it.

Some people have complained about the controls, but I personally have no problems with them. I can do nearly every move (I like to go to practice mode for each of the 36 fighters and try to get every move done - you get an elevator like sound and a star every time you manage), and the PSP buttons aren’t the limiting factor here when I do fail.

I love the various modes, longest infatuation has been with the Command Attack mode, where you have to perform 10 moves - 7 regular and 3 juggle combos - as fast as you can, a bit like a Simon Says concept as the moves are different each time. They’re a neat way of learning the moves better, and prepare for learning to use them in a game.

The online rankings are also great, with rankings for most of the game modes and an overall ranking. I’ve also had the opportunity to test the game sharing mode (one game, two psps) and that’s super too, with various tournament options to boot.

And for those who forgot, Tekken really has awesome movelists. Check here, where I recorded most of King’s moves:

I’ve done one to youtube and one to rapidshare, will do all on rapidshare tomorrow.

As you can see these are not even all moves, but certainly nearly all …
I put the opening screen in the first movie so you can also see load times, this is representative of the load times for this game - they don’t get much longer for nicer environments; as you can imagine, the animation data for the characters is likely to be the biggest contribution to the load times.

I have always loved Tekken, but this PSP version of Dark Resurrection must be my all time favorite by far, simply because I have a chance to play this the most often AND it is the best version, with the best selection of characters and game modes (only thing I miss is Tekken 2’s first person view hidden mode :D)
