Ms. Cups is master at getting a coupon for the food boxes, then cancelling right away. So we’ve done almost every food box imaginable at least once.
And of all the food boxes, Home Chef is the best and it’s not even close. Every meal we’ve gotten has been spectacular tasting. We’ve even reused a few of the recipes ourselves a time or two.
At one time we subscribed to a local organic farm’s “produce of the month” program. Which was actually a delivery of a couple bags of produce every 2 weeks. We got lots of fresh fun interesting ingredients.
But it was a bit much for two people. And the time we got 10 lbs of fresh basil and 10 lbs of turnips for 3 straight cycles was a bit much. I like basil, but that would’ve made 10 lifetimes’ supply of pesto and I’m not a home canner. 30 lbs of turnips? Really? I’m not running an orphanage here.
Haven’t done a stuff-o-the-month subscription since.
I use boxed.com. I get paper products and snacks mostly along with other items. They have good pricing on a lot of things and their generic brand stuff is great quality for a decent price: kitchen trash bags, toilet paper, etc. There’s no membership fee. I’m not sure if this fits the bill though because it’s not a regular monthly subscription, I just order as needed, free shipping on orders over $50. We’ve been happy with it so far.
We have Loot Crate, Pet Crate, Firefly Crate, and ThinkGeek’s Cube.
Nerd Nirvana. Keeps me in genre t-shirts, the office in toys, the cats happy with toys and the neighbors dog in treats until we adopt another fuzzball fido.
My brother got me a subscription to Yum last Christmas. It’s a monthly box of snacks, with each month featuring a different country. I’ve been enjoying it because it’s a chance to try out some exotic snacks I’ve never seen before.
I’ve since cancelled BarkBox. It’s still a cool service but my dogs are just not in to toys. They’re not in to hard/chewable toys, they just rip up soft toys (within minutes) and they half-rip other toys and ignore them after that.
When I quit they asked me why and I said I would love to subscribe to a monthly treats-only box but I can’t justify $20 a month for all these wasted toys.
For a little while, I got Tinker Crate and Kiwi Crate for my daughters, then ages 9 and 5 respectively. The Tinker Crate has a science-y project, like building a little trebuchet. Kiwi Crate is similar but for younger kids, so a project like, once we made a little fishing game. Stopped for loss of interest.
I signed up for Taste and Curiosity a few months back, they send a box of snacks every month from a different country. Went OK for the first few months, then in July was Japan, which was not bad on it’s own but I thought it was strange since Japan was the country the month before I started. But “Strange food from Japan” is pretty popular, so eh, whatever.
Then this month came, and it was Japan again? And now it’s missing the nice note actually telling you what the heck everything is. Plus I noticed some of the food had labels on it indicating that it may have been bought straight from a local Asian market. So I go to the website, and they have a banner “We’ll be rebranding to a new domain name soon!”
Uh oh, not a good sign. I have one month left in my subscription, I have a feeling I won’t be renewing…
