I recently got a PS2 (my first PlayStation of any generation.) I’ve heard good things about the Silent Hill series but would like to hear a little more before buying.
I’m a fan of action/adventure games including (but certainly not limited to) the Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania and Resident Evil series. I have limited experience with survival horror (I’ve played and enjoyed Resident Evils 0-4 and Code Veronica.)
So, would you recommend the SH games to someone like me? Does the order in which I play them matter? Is there anything else that I should know before getting into this series? Thanks for your help.

Yes, buy them. Buy them right now. If you play at night, lock your doors and close the curtains. Keep your favorite blankie or Teddy bear next to you for when you get too scared.
Definitely play at night. Crank the sound as high as you can (without causing problems with family/neighbors/etc.)
It doesn’t matter which order you play in, as they are all self-contained stories. They aren’t at all like Resident Evil, with the “jump out from a corner” scares. Rather, they buid and build with a creepiness that will have you rocking in the corner and pooping your pants by the time you’re done playing.
Damn, guess I have to put Guitar Hero on hold and dust off SH 2 and 3!
Well, I’ve gone ahead and bought Silent Hill off eBay. I figure that the first game is probably the best place to get started on a series. Thanks for the tips. It sounds like this will be the start of many late and/or sleepless nights.
