Tell me about your shoes

Hah! I’ve beaten you all! I own exactly TWO pairs of shoes: Black Doc Martenesque shoes and $3.00 fake birkenstocks I got at K-Mart.

I really hate shoes. I spend most of the day barefoot.

I wear a size 15 shoe. I have learned over the years that when I find something in the store in that size, regardless of the style, I should buy it. There have been periods in my life (like sophomore year in college) when I have had as few as 2 pairs of shoes and none of the stores were carrying my size, so I’ve had to resort to custom-ordering. Other times (like now), I’ve had an overflow of shoes because some stores decided to start carrying larger sizes and I’ve been able to get the 15s.

Current closet inventory:

  • Two pairs of tan bucks (haven’t been worn in at least 2 years)
  • My Tevas from college
  • A pair of leather sandals I found at the Big N Tall store
  • A pair of cow slippers that claim to be size 13, but they fit on my feet anyway
  • A nearly destroyed pair of black dress shoes that need replacing
  • Leather docksiders that are so old, they’re practically rotting
  • A pair of brown leather shoes that look like something The Hobbit might wear (most often worn to work)
  • Black leather boots that I wouldn’t normally wear, but that the Big N Tall store had in my size
  • 2 pairs of sneakers from the Vans Outlet

BTW, if you wear a large size, the Vans outlet near my mom’s house in Riverhead, Long Island, carries most styles up to size 16, so I never really have to worry about sneakers. It’s the dress shoes I’ve gotta worry about.

My everyday shoes, in order of faverocity:
[ul]
[li]Vasque hikers[/li][li]Sport sandals[/li][li]Target sneaks[/li][li]Bass sneaks[/li][/ul]

I have a Back-Up pair of my Vasques. Right after I bought the first pair, I found the same boot on clearance in a catalog. The only shoes I ever bought through the mail.

The “sport sandals” are Teva-esque. My Tevas died and these were on sale.

I have a pair of deck shoes. These are for when I can’t wear sneaks. The Little Woman says “You’re not wearing sneaks, are you?” This is DeDay Code for “Wear your deck shoes.”

I have a pair of “retired” hiking boots for working in the yard.

Last, but not least, I have a pair of rubber boots (my Wellies) for when you need rubber boots. When you hang out in the house all day barefoot, and you need to run out for, say, the paper, and you can’t find your sandals, Wellies will do, and they’re trés stylish. (I was going to put “to boot” but I didn’t because that would just be dumb. You’re welcome.)
-Rue.

I used to have shoes by the dozen. Lots and lots of cheap pairs.

Then I got turned on to nice shoes. Well, expensive, anyway. So I have a few pairs of Eccos and one pair of hush puppies and those are about all I wear. I have others, but I rarely wear them and always regret it after I do.

My husband’s shoe of choice is the Clark’s Wallabee. Butt ugly, expensive, and comfortable.

My cobbler’s name is Steve. I believe firmly in the ‘activity-based’ shoe collection. Various sports shoes, dress shoes and an extensive sandal and boot collection (hence the cobbler). My shoe collection would be much smaller if I could bring myself to dispose of some of the ‘mature’ shoes in my collection.

Man, there is no way I’m listing all my shoes here. I never throw them away unless they are hideously out of style, really uncomfortable, or coming apart. I have many, many pairs. My favorites are my black leather platform loafers and my birkenstock-wannabe sandals. Of course, I also love my boots, hiking boots, low-heeled knee-high black leather, ankle high black leather with chunky heel, brown suede “granny boots”…I think I’ll go home and count and caress them all…

plnnr, I picked up a pair of buttery-soft (yep, good term) Cole-Hahn sandals in a Niemen-Marcus outlet. They fit like a glove, beautifully made, fit me to a T, and…$150. On sale. I put them right back, weeping, where I found them.

Jimmy Choo is the author of all that is unholy. He has the most fabulous shoes and is a source of wailing and gnashing of teeth for all of us that cannot afford his stuff. [sub]Yes, I’m whining.[/sub].

Right now I have the most shoes I’ve ever owned, and that’s 5 pairs. They are:

  • A pair of Timberlands that look like a cross between hiking boots and sneakers. (They’re my everyday shoes).
  • A pair of black Rockports. They’re nice, and the closest thing I have to a dress shoe.
  • Nike running shoes (for, well, running).
  • My golf shoes.
  • Some cheap rubber sandals I wear at the pool or beach.

Humm, I guess I could start to list…

Ohhh! Another shoe fetishist, checking in. I drool for clogs these days, Dansko clogs (from Denmark!). I’ve got on a pair now, no back, with no socks. In the winter I have a black pair of ‘professional clogs’ with closed backs. I also love Birkinstock sandals.

Well, I love sandals period. Strappy ones with high heels. On the other hand, I bought a pair of Sketchers sandals the other night, on sale at Shoe Carnival for only $12! And you people buy your shoes at Target.

Well, I do have some Chez Target specials – keds-type mules and various beach sandals.

I must say I’ve never seen the fascination with Doc Martens! They look like something you’d wear to a riot.

[li]brown Rockport boots (I’ve had these re-soled twice and re-stitched twice)[/li]white Nike golf shoes (they look like tennis-shoes)

I would rather go barefoot than wear shoes whenever possible, which is probably why I always wear my Adidas Pytossage velcro sandals, they come off easily. They’re so cool though, they go with anything I wear.
Other than that I’ve got some brown Sketchers boots, a couple pair of Adidas sneakers, some gorgeous black velvety heels that also go with everything, and a pair of shimmery silver bejeweled heels for everything I wear that doesn’t go with black heels. What I really want are these knee-length boots I saw at Payless, they would go beautifully with some tight dark blue jeans, a spagetti string halter top and the black floor-length trenchcoat I’ve been lusting after.

My Double H Cowboy Boots are the world’s greatest footwear.
After 5 years with these boots, they treat my feet like old lovers. They are exceedingly comfortable. I wear them walking in the woods or hunting, and they offer excellent protection and support. They have a big rubbery sole that never slips even on ice.

They keep my feet warm in winter, and cool in summer. They protect against moisture, but breathe well, and dry out quickly. The leather just keeps looking better and better with age. All it ever needs is a little rubbing with saddle soap a couple of times a year.

I wear them riding horses, or hiking. They’re great for driving long distances, or sitting on an airplane. They’re great for riding a motorcycle. I use them when I do yardwork, use the chainsaw or work outside on a cold blustery day. After walking through mud and cold and dirt and muck you just hose them off, rub 'em down and they’re good to go.

They feet easily into all situations. Despite they’re rough usage, I wore them with a tux at my Brother’s wedding. They’re a natural with Chinos, a sport shirt, and a blazer. Great for hanging out at the club, and swilling a few beers.

You can put a money clip or a knife in the top of them, and if you ever had to get into a fight, you can kick some serious ass with them.

When I wear my boots, I know I’m ready for anything.

One more pair that I, too, forgot (and am ashamed to admit I have) - I own, and have been known to wear, without socks mind you - a pair of black Gucci loafers I got from my father-in-law (he ordered them and then decided he didn’t like them - go figure).

Dear Uncle Beer: Bored? bawwwbawwwbawwww

I love my shoes. I had, at last count, 45 pair.
About 30 pair are in storage at the ex’s place.

My absolutely favourite pair is a pair of vintage pumps. Three and a half inch heel, red leather, from 1953. Think Marilyn Monroe and you’re close. This is why I need to date tall men.

Ahhhh. A man that appreciates good footwear. I knew I liked you for a reason.

I have lots of shoes. Nothing expensive, though. As much as I adore shoes, I just can’t afford the really nice ones. My current workhorse shoes are Payless leather slip-on loafer-thingies, one pair in white, the other in brown. $9.99. Either pair will go with everything I own, in the summer. In winter, I usually wear cheap sneakers.

I own many pairs of pumps, in various colors & heel heights, but mostly black.

I was with BunnyGirl* when she purchased these boots. Oh man, that was a trip and a half. I do not remember how many times we visited the Bass outlet before she finally snapped and bought them. They are amazing boots, though. And they look good on her.
