Tell me, Texmam, are you in show business?

Whew! That was lucky! Damnear lost a $300 hand cart!

And now I would like to read a few passages from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and Duck!

Wait, what’s the “Santa Maria” joke then?

Oh, and I’ve got this urgent telegram from Rock Ridge that arrived last week.

Taggert: Dang, that was lucky. Doggone near lost a four hundred dollar handcar.

Bart: Well, Jim, since you are my guest and I am your host, what’s your pleasure? What do you like to do?
Jim: Oh, I don’t know. Play chess… screw…
Bart: [quickly] Well, let’s play chess.

Reference to Latin jazz musician Mongo Santamaria.

Well raise my rent! I thought all the jokes that sailed over my head as a kid were now within my grasp - turns out I was wrong.

Which is ironic as the actor playing Bart (Cleavon Little) is rumored to have been gay. (I think. My Google-fu is weak.)

I hadn’t heard that and I can’t seem to find anything online about him having been gay. Maybe it’s just people who got confused about him playing a flamboyent homosexual in Once Bitten.

Well I done broke out my dvd last night and watched it. So I’ll give a Laural and Hardy handshake to tdn for this thread. Do any of you remember seeing Mongo go diving for Spanish balloons in an old well? Took me until the vhs tape to prove it existed to my sister. Then of course I had forgotten the coin-op quick draw sheriff.

I think I’ll dig out Spaceballs tonight.
Oh, shit, there goes the planet.

More air: 25 cents

Piss on you! I’m workin’ for MEL BROOKS!

I dimly remember this. Is there an uber directors cut bluray edition?

Ludicrous Speed!

As I recall in the original release there were several attempts to kill/subdue Mongo by Sherriff Bart, but they were subsequently cut and only the “Telegram for Mongo” scene remains in current versions. I’m betting that’s the difference. I’ll bet that’s a very old VHS tape.

Don’t make me break out spaceballs: the placemat!

Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome. C’mon in.

'Scuse me while I whip this out.

The only time I’ve seen this footage was when it was broadcast on regular TV. My VHS copy doesn’t have it, so I always assumed it was extra footage that was added to compensate to how regular TV completely hacks the movie to pieces.

Coincidentally, it was on AMC last night 2am EST, and it’s still hacked all up to the point it’s almost unwatchable.

Yeah, that’s one of the major differences between the TV edited version and the theatrical version.

Well, that and the complete lack of humor.
