Tell Us About Your Favorite Breed of Dog

Winnie I’ve always wanted EBD, but the vet bills alone frighten me to my core. ( I would name my girl EBD ‘Agatha’ and she would wear pink. )

I love just about any dog out there except pekes and poms and other decorative pillow dogs. as long as it is well behaved and trained. When I meet up with a spazoid dog and an owner that says it is a PITA, I want to smash the owner in the face.

My vote is for the English Springer Spaniels-loving, smart, and alert. The best dog I ever had was Buddy-we lost him 3 years ago.
I still miss the guy-one of the funniest ( and endearing) things he did was his singing-when my stepson practiced his saxophone, Buddywould be howling a full volume.

I love Basenjis, although I’ve never owned one. I have two senior dogs now and am not planning on getting any more for a long time after mind are gone, if I do it will probably be a Basenji. That, or an Italian Greyhound, but I meet so many of them that shiver all the time, which I dislike.

Pros: Highly intelligent. Beautiful dogs IMO. The perfect size, small but not toy, 15" at the shoulder and 18-25 lbs (also good as I rent). Fairly sturdy for their size and build. Smooth short water resistant wipe-clean coat, little shedding, no odor, licks to clean like a cat, avoids the wet and mess on their own. Independent, ‘catlike’ personality but highly loyal in their own way. Tend to have good social skills with other dogs. They don’t bark!

Cons: Highly intelligent (it’s a double-edged sword). Can be destructive. Difficult to train (but so are both the dogs I have now - some don’t come with that 'desire to please). I’ve never heard of a Basenji having a reliable recall - even if you bribe them well, if there’s something they’d rather be doing they won’t come. Generally hate the rain and snow, need to be dressed for cold weather as they have very little coat. They may not bark but they can certainly make themselves heard with a variety of higher-pitched noises. And for a sighthound type of dog (many tend to be couch potatoes although they need a good run frequently), they need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation - the more the better, really.

Labs are fun and love water. They’d make the perfect fishing buddy! One of these days, I’m going to get one.

I love Australian Shepherds. They are smart, loyal, athletic, and wonderful watchdogs. That being said, I currently own a half chi/JRT because the Aussie is a little too athletic for me right now.
