As it is January, which means cold and wet, my daily wear is the Nieuwvliet from Loints of Holland. I have a pair in black and a pair in petrol.
For walks, I wear New Balance 460, and today I’m going to an outlet mall, which has a New Balance store. I need to find shoes which are a bit more closed, because breathable shoes are not needed when walking in -5°C weather.
Well. I do on formal wedding/funeral type days, and occasionally for dress up costumes, but I don’t recall the last time I wore them.
That said, I have a very fine pair of German Army Airport Firefighters Boots (all silver fire resistant) which I occasionally wear at crazy parties. There exists, somewhere on the internet, a photo of me wearing them and nothing else but a very small speedo.
Oh. I used to have a pair of cheap 6 inch high heels, as you do… I wore them once, to go to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. My god, those were uncomfortable.
I finally found some low top Converse Weapons that I love. I had a gold and blue pair back in the early 2000s that were my favorite shoes until they fell apart, and only now did I find ones that I liked as much, some emerald greens (white base, green accents) on sale for $69! I’ve always liked that design and the simple chevron and star logo. The only other pair of shoes I liked as much were maroon-accented Ilie Nastase Adidas tennis shoes.
My whole attitude to shoes – appropriately channeling my inner dog – is that I don’t like 'em. Nor socks – in my old(er) age putting on socks is a PITA.
My standard footwear indoors, winter and summer, is none. If I have to go out, footwear is as close as practicable to “none”. In summer – by which I mean spring, summer, and fall – my usual is a pair of sandals that are easy to slip into. For cold weather I have various options, including a pair of heavy winter boots that I haven’t worn since my snow-shoveling days. I typically wear a pair of lightweight Adidas when I go out in the winter, black with white accents. And I just got a pair of navy blue loafers that should be even easier to put on and take off. But when spring comes, I’m back to sandals!
My go to shoes are a pair of Ariat cowboy boots. I have other boots but these are my favorites. For work out wear I have a pair of Altra Paradigm 7 shoes in my gym bag
I have trouble finding shoes. I wear size 8 wide and no one seems to stock them. I looked up the New Balance 608s mentioned by blonder and Engineer_Comp_Geek and ordered a pair in brown suede that will be here Monday
I live near San Francisco where fortunately the weather isn’t too cold in winters. I’m frequently in shorts and sandals year round, and my sandals are leather slides.
Otherwise I wear business casual with tan brown leather shoes from Ecco, but I’m mostly in shorts and those sandals.
Mostly Skechers sneaks. I think I’ve got a pair of New Balance somewhere in the pile. And I just got a pair of boots for when I shovel snow. I wear shoes for comfort. And I’m pretty sure I got rid of the last of my “dressy” shoes since we never do anything dressy.
I work from home. I am not a frequent “go places” person. The dog needs to be taken outside a few times a day.
Barefoot: Most of the time.
Cheap tennis shoes for taking the dog out and most “go places” things.
Other shoes for “go places” things where cheap tennis shoes aren’t appropriate - maybe 5 times a year.
Day in, day out, I wear mostly Denali shoes from Big 5. They’re cheap, < $25/pr, and they’re slip-on, as I hate having to bend over to tie shoes. I do buy good arch support inserts for them. They last as well as more expensive shoes (or I should say, I go through more expensive shoes just as fast). I do have one pair of Skechers slip-ons that were $85, they didn’t last any longer than the Denalis. When a pair gets too grubby looking to wear to work/town, they get downgraded to chore shoes and I buy another pair, about once a year.
With the snow coming, I do have a pair of rubber muck boots I wear for outside chores. Used to buy actual Muck boots, back when the kennel was full of dogs and we had horses, but not worth the expense anymore.
For fancy occasions I still have the pair of cowboy boots , don’t remember the brand, that I bought for my wedding almost 18 years ago. Think I’ve worn them twice since, and they’ll be put into service one last time at my daughter’s wedding in June.
Wear a 10-1/2 or 11, depending, but have B width feet. Used to wear women’s New Balance, as trying to find narrow width shoes is a PITA. I’ve given up on that for anything but the cowboy boots.
In the house I’m barefoot. Absolutely abhor socks, only wear them with boots.
Let me ask, are your soles super hard?
Does gravel cause problems?
Are you not afraid of injury or stepping in something nasty?
When I’m inside, on the deck, the garage, a little ways on to the grass I’m barefoot. Shoes are just not important to me.
That is why I like Crocs, it’s like being barefoot with some protection. The ease of on/off.
And they come in cute colors.
It bugged me that I couldn’t ID the slides so I got them and looked for a link. They are Keen Daytona II leather slides available on Amazon ➜ Amazon.com | KEEN Men's Daytona II Slide | Shoes ■ . Mystery solved (for me).
My Ecco shoes have been wearing out. The leather on them is in great shape but my local shoe repair guy said they’re not set up for replacing the sole, so I’ll be shopping for a replacement pair soon.
Male size 10 Reeboks. That is consistantly what fits my feet. You would think that mens size 10 would be the same across all brands but they are not. They all fit differently.
I have a pair of LL Bean boots and was warned when I ordered them to order a size smaller, I ordered 2 sizes smaller but still was not enough. They are designed to be wearing thick socks. Next time I will order a size 7 womens.
So the weird thing is that during less civilized times of my life (meaning: before marriage) I was the kind of guy that would have one pair of shoes and wear them for everything. Most commonly back in the day it was Sperry Topsiders. I always wondered why my feet hurt so much at the end of the day. Can’t say I was a real observant young man.
Anyway, the day came where both personally and professionally it no longer worked to look like a 20 year old hobo so I started accumulating a wider variety of shoes. That also about when I was identified as an over-pronate-r, someone who would really benefit from a little more supportive, structured shoe.
And now I find myself in the shoe-adjacent business, with Nike being a big client of mine. I’m up there on campus enough with access to the company store and always come home with a few more pairs. Current favorites from the Native American designer collaboration, in partnership with Pendleton, the Air Zoom Pegasus N7 Pendleton. They’re long out of production but I was recently able to get a new old stock pair. Otherwise, I have a closet-ful of Zoom Structures and Zoom Pegasuses of varying colors.
Actually I’m a long-time wearer of high heels, but I’ve lately developed a problem. It feels like the ball of my right foot is contacting the ground more than it used to, and sometimes when I step with that foot I gasp with the sensation that a needle’s being driven into my second toe.
Maybe it’s not the shoes though. I gotta think about it.
