Best way to advertise Tennessee? Use a picture of Alaska!

An ad to promote Tennessee as a destination for mountain bikers has started appearing in national publications. Problem is, the contractor the state
hired used a picture taken during a 1997 bike race in Alaska.

The contractor said the leaves had fallen off the trees in Tennessee, so it wasn’t pretty enough for a picture. Apparently no one in the tourism department told the contractor that the state has a photo archive with 210,000 choices and a crackerjack photo staff. Heck, the contractor could have just gone to Mapco and bought a disposable camera and the results would’ve been less embarrassing.

I couldn’t find a picture of the ad, unfortunately.
